Food selection is better at this location than the Trattoria. My usual is either the chicken or calamari piccatta. They cook the chicken and calamari just the way I like...moist and tasty. Portions are huge. Garlic rolls are very good. I like the atmosphere. One of the best Italian restaurants around the LA area. Very tasty.

My other co-worker drives like a madwoman and the three of us arrive at our destination. I have them order for me, so they get me the grilled beef lemongrass bahn mi. I also get the tofu fresh spring roll and a vietnamese coffee. We wait about 5 minutes, then frantically scarf our food down, pop out of our seats, rush to the car, and take off again as quickly as we came. We get back to the office just 1 minute late. Whew! Sucks that my co-workers who are hourly and only get 30 minute lunches. I am so glad that I am salary, I can take my time enjoying my lunch. I'm surprised I didn't get heartburn.
The place is located in a shopping center, so there is plenty of parking. The store is more of a bakery with just a few tables to eat. So, it is best if you put in your order and then take it to go. The sandwich was really good. The bread is fresh and it is soft in the middle and just enough crunch on the outside. Even after it is cooled a bit, it doesn't get chewy or hard like rock. The coffee was strong, but not too over the top. The spring rolls were perfect. The food tastes more fresh than Lee's. I guess Lee's is more corporate and this is more mom and pop. I had to get a business card, otherwise I wouldn't have remembered the name. I will definitely come back.

Lee's Sandwiches

Now, after a few years have passed, it seems that Lee's has lost some of it's magic. There aren't as many people coming here anymore, the service seems slower, and they raised the prices a bit. I still like their hot baguettes and bahn mi, I usually get the grilled chicken or vegetarian. I also get the veggie spring roll and an iced vietnamese coffee. It is still a goto spot in Fullerton when I want something quick and cheap.
I had the cubano sandwich and my mister had the garlic chicken. My sandwich was dry and the bread tasted kinda stale and the pork was dry. The chicken portions seems to have gotten smaller and the maduros were mushy an lacked the usual tasty flavor, same goes for the beans. The price increase just makes me miss how good this place used to be. The garlic chicken dinners used to go for $7.95 and was a true bargain. Now I think it goes for $9.95 or $10.95. I was so disappointed with my meal that I am not sure if I am going to come back. It is a sad day indeed.

When I first discovered Versailles, I would have given it 4 stars, however, in recent years, the quality of the food has deteriorated somewhat and the prices have increased...so I had to take away a star.
I do appreciate that they have renovated the interior decor which gives it a more upscale ambience and feels more cuban. My usual is the garlic chicken or the roasted pork...or if I am hella hungry, the chicken and pork combo. I love the plantanos, they are my fave. The portions are huge, so technically you can share a dish.
I am still in search of the "best" cuban restaurant. I hear it is in Glendale, but I don't know what the name is. For now, I can say that Versailles is the "best" cuban I have thus far...which I am comparing it to Felix's in Orange.

I really don't like Hollywood clubs, but it was NYE and The Highlands was doing a dinner and dancing, so what the hey, I'll give it try. Even though we had reservations and we got there pretty early, it still took over an hour to get seated. The food was decent, steak, but not the best. Dinner was served in the upstairs area, which was a nice space, but as the night wore on, it was tough to get drinks since there were so many people and the bartenders were such d-bags that they didn't notice who was next in line. To make matters worse, they kept taking shots and/or swigs from the champagne bottle that they couldn't concentrate on filling the orders fast enough. When it got closer to midnight we moved downstairs to the dancefloor. It was jam packed with people! Everyone was bumping into each other, spilling drinks on anyone who passed through. The music was good, but there was no room to dance. It was so crowded, it felt almost dangerous that so many people were packed on the dancefloor. I made sure to note the exits, just in case of an emergency. There were go-go dancers entertaining the crowd. At midnight the people on the stage sprayed champagne into the crowded and later foam came down from the ceiling. It was cool to experience, but next time, I would prefer something a little more low key.

We head over to the Rat Pack Lounge since they said it was quieter and they have the tv's so we can watch the Laker game. I like that side better since they play all the cool Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra songs. I didn't know they had happy hour...serendipitous!
Domestic beers for $3.50, Sangria for $5, and appetizers for $2.95...Yay! We ordered the calamari, baked stuffed mushrooms, and peppers and sausage. I wasn't sure how big the portions of the appetizers were, so I also ordered my fave, the calamari picatta. The appetizers were enough for 2 and we were satisfied especially with the never ending garlic rolls. I really liked the calamari, it was soft, not chewy and not overly breaded, just the way I like them. It's not Giacomo's in Boston, but it was darn good! The peppers and sausage and mushrooms weren't bad. All the app's went well with the drinks. My sangria was good and made me relax. That hit the spot! By the time the picatta came, I was stuffed.
So, now that I know about happy hour, I can skip the entree and just nosh on the app's! I'm doing the happy dance.
