The Sunday prix fixe three-course brunch was fabulous!

Let's start with the fact that the breakfast juices are bottomless. Compared to many fine dining locations, this is a big point in favor! J started with the fruit & yogurt and I had the Clam & Corn Chowder. The chowder was warm but not hot, and had a milder flavor than I am used to. Still, it was very tasty.

For the main course, J had the Classic Eggs Benedict and I had the Malted Belgian Waffle. What a treat! A perfectly flavored waffle (Malted is the way to go!) with fresh strawberries, real whipped cream, real butter, real New-England maple syrup, and sides of perfectly cooked bacon and chicken & apple sausage. It was perfect all the way through.

For the finale, J and I both had the Snickerdoodle Apple Cobbler. I'll give you one guess what the crumble was made of. Again, a wonderful flavor combination with fresh vanilla ice-cream.

The only things keeping this from a 5-star review were the lack of steam coming from my soup and the fact that our waitress was a little slow on two occasions. The food was fabulous, the view was fabulous, and the experience was thoroughly enjoyable.

Some friends and I went to Web Locker for lunch, yesterday. I had the daily special: Web Bacon with pepper jack cheese. The burger was good. The regular fries were deep fried just right. The mass-produced, pre-frozen, curly fries were typical. As a burger joint, it's just fine. I didn't try the fish & chips, so I really can't offer an opinion.

Dinner was the garden salad and slices of their combination and another style. (I forget the name of the second style. I was pleased to find whole cloves of garlic on it, though!) To drink, I had a glass of the Hefeweizen and their home-brewed root beer.

All aspects were tasty and pleasing, but none were over-the-top. Particularly, their pizza didn't age well, with the third slice suffering from a damp and sloppy crust. On the other hand, I'm happy to support any place that serves its own root beer!

I had dinner and the beer sampler last night.

My meal was their feta-stuffed chicken breast with a mandarin orange and tarragon sauce, with mashed Yukon Gold potatoes and whole steamed green beans. It was tasty, but not exceptional.

The beer, though! The beer was fabulous. I'm not, normally, a stout or porter fan. In this case, their Imperial Oatmeal Stout is the smoothest stout I've ever had. It was far and away my favorite of the sampler set. The middle color beers (ESB/IPA) were my least favorite, with their Amber Ale, Scotch, and the Stout leading the list.

Great neighborhood place. I wouldn't want to compare this to the fine dining of Seattle, but I'd put it up against any family owned neighborhood restaurant in Puget Sound. The pizza are great, the pastas are great, and the italian sausage is the best I've ever had.

2009-11-22: Unfortunately, they appear to have closed in August of this year. :(

Slip 45 only opened in March of this year, in the location of the old Makos. They have a bar and some booths and tables in front, and a multi-purpose lounge in back. The back room can serve up live music, karaoke, comedy, pool, and/or dancing.

I've been three times for dinner, sampling their shepherd's pie, monte cristo, and scottish eggs. All were very good. The only odd note was the country gravy on top of the scottish eggs, but that was more than offset by hashbrowns the way they should be done.

As you may guess, they serve their complete menu all day long. Those three samples are more than enough to keep me working my way through the rest of the menu.

I went there for lunch, earlier this week, and had a bowl of their clam chowder.

To paraphrase the family member who introduced me to this restaurant, I now know what clam chowder tastes like. Everything I've had up until know has been potato cream soup with clams in it...

Given that I haven't had a good sample of the menu, I can't give them more than three stars. But, their chowder is worth five by itself.

My friend brought me to Cedars on Brooklyn before taking me to SeaTac. It was wonderful!

We started with the Cedar's Delight appetizer, which had samples of their lamb sausage, tandoori chicken, and other meats.

I had the Royal Biryani with Lamb. The rice was lovely and light and the lamb was fork tender. My friend had the Tikka Masala with Chicken. Also fork tender, and wonderfully spiced.

The thing to remember is that Cedars underspices their food. We both ordered medium spicing and it was just enough for flavor. I'm not all that into spicy food, and I'd have had a very bland dinner if my friend hadn't known to up-spice.

Ever wondered what a higher-end casual neighborhood restaurant might be like? Go try Amy's on the Bay. The menu is American eclectic with a medium focus on seafood, and is uniformly good.

The service can be a little spotty. The decor is understated. They have an outdoor patio that they can open up on warm days.

This would make a great end to a day trip to the West Sound...
