Urban Ore is a phenomenal place for creative people. If you look hard enough you can find almost anything there.
It's very DIY, for good and bad. You can get materials for any project for extremely cheap. There's widgets and odd parts that you'd never expect to find anywhere else. However, there's a minimal amount of staff on hand, and it's a huge place. Expect to hunt a while to find something, and if you want something large, you'd better be able to move it yourself.
I really do like the place though. The whole concept is fantastic, and I've gotten some great deals there. I even built a functional camera crane out of parts mostly salvaged from Urban Ore. Crazy!

I feel like the albatross has gone downhill in recent years. Three years back I would've given it five stars, no question. But now...

Basically, what used to be a really hip hangout where people in the know could play board games while having a pint has turned into a really crowded hipster bar. The place is packed to bursting on weekend nights, and pretty full even during the week. The service at the bar is always slow, though their beer selection is decent and their drinks are good.
It's not a bad place to go, but I'm not impressed by it anymore.

Telegraph is great around Christmas time when they close down the street and all the craftspeople come out... the rest of the time, though, it's dirty, crowded, overrun by students, and mostly overpriced. The restaurants are all mediocre quality, and the shopping, while eclectic, is mostly uninspiring. There are a few exceptions (like Moe's books), but all in all Telegraph Ave. isn't somewhere I like to hang out.

I had them install an iPod connector in my BMW 3 series... they were very knowledgeable, way more helpful than the dealership as far as options, very reasonable price. It took them exactly as long as they said it would, everything went as expected. No complaints.

Tourettes is the outlet for all the craziness you're not supposed to express the rest of the time. It's wacky, it's raunchy, it's slightly psychotic. But more than anything, it's fun!
The shows can be hit or miss sometimes... you might get one show that's amazing, and another that's kinda lame, but lately the average has been really good.

The Stuffed Inn

This place is like comfort food for me. I grew up two blocks away and have been eating their sandwiches my whole life.
It's been the same family owning and operating the place the whole time, and their prices have hardly gone up in 20+ years. Why would anyone ever go to Subway or Quiznos when you can get better food for less money at The Stuffed Inn.
Delicious sandwiches, great split pea soup, really good people.
My only complaint: they close pretty early, so I can never catch them after work for a late lunch or dinner.

DO NOT GO TO THEM FOR SERVICE.
My car stalled right in front of their shop so I pushed it in. Long story short, they spent a month replacing parts, misdiagnosing it, ordering the wrong parts, and generally making the problems worse. Their staff lied to me repeatedly, and they were generally ignorant and unhelpful.
A friend of mine went in for new tires, and they forgot to put the nuts back on. He got around the corner before one of his tired rolled right off his car.
I'd trust them with an oil change, or repairing a flat. Beyond that, stay the heck away if you value your car and your safety.

Absolutely love their pizza. It's the best deep dish I've ever had. My only complaint is how busy they are in such a small space. It's always crowded and noisy. Always have to get the pizza to go.
Man, Forbidden Island is absolutely delicious! I mean that in all senses of the word. Their drinks are creative and interesting, and every last one of them is tasty. I've tried at least half their menu and haven't found one I don't like.
The atmosphere is great. Cozy, not overly crowded but rarely too quiet either. It's got the perfect Tiki vibe, and somehow manages to make it feel natural. Not gimmicky at all. The eclectic music selection fits perfectly.
The bartenders are great, and their new manager Suzanne is absolutely brilliant. Her original creations are some of the best drinks I've ever tasted. No joke.

I've never had a bad pizza from the Cheeseboard. Even when they sound questionable, they turn out great. Always delicious.
And the little "bonus slices" they give you with every order just make me smile.
