Broadway Auto Electric

Category: Auto Repair
Neighborhood: Lemon Grove

5.0 star rating

I called Broadway Auto Electric as I needed to purchase an Interstate Battery for my Boat (Marine Battery). They were one of the closest authorized Interstate dealers in San Diego. Long Story short, Brian was awesome to deal with. Very personable on the phone and in person.

He got me the exact battery I needed right away and even suggested an alternative one if I didn't want to spend as much (saying it works just as good but slightly less power) but I wound up sticking with the one I know works (why change something if it's not broke right?).

Well anyway, I give this place 5 stars because very friendly, great customer service and personable. They all seem very trustworthy and that is hard to find in the auto industry. Thanks.

Way over-rated. I come out to Central TX often for business so have slim choices when it comes to good eateries out in Eastland County. Pulido's has a really nice vibe inside- it's clean and relatively modern however the food is not the greatest and the service is very poor. It took me 10 minutes to get my water after I'd already been munching on my chips/salsa. The food is just OK and I rarely find myself not eating my entire meal, but that happened twice here. Both times the service has been slow and food sub-par lacking flavor. I will not return. There's a better mexican joint about 10 minutes west in Cisco that I frequent when in town.

Berkeley Pizza

Update - 10/15/2011
Dropping fast. Now the standard delivery time is 1 Hour and 40 Minutes!!! The food quality/consistency has gone way down too. I ordered 2 times in the last month and both times they messed up the order that was repeated 2 times on the phone and confirmed with wrong toppings and also the pizza was soggy like it was sitting out for a long time before getting to me (both times).

I thought maybe it was just a bad 2 nights and tried ordering 2 more times this week (without even writing a bad review yet) to give it another shot and no way in heck am I going to be wanting to order food and then wait close to 2 hours for it. They quoted me at over 1 hour and 40 minutes wait time so I never even bothered ordering. This was my tipping point after 4 attempts with issues. What is going on here? Very disappointed at the drop of service with Berkeley Pizza. Unfortunately looking for a new place for pizza.

Excellent Customer Service! Had an issue with a delivery taking a long time and the man in charge at Berkeley Pizza addressed the issue and made sure I understood the delivery time anticipation. (I figured it was like most pizza joints where it should only take 30-45 minutes)... But I guess since it's Chicago Style it takes a lot more time to prepare/bake- usually 1 hour+ expected time from delivery to your door.

Anyway, long and short of it is they are very friendly people working here, are good to their customers and have very tasty pizza. The taste of the pizza is dynamite and they have some awesome thick tomatoes on top of the pizza that taste delicious. The pizzas ARE a little more $ than a regular thin slice but the weight of the pizza is probably triple haha so I guess you get more pizza in a smaller diameter! Thanks for making my second order experience with Berkeley so wonderful. I wish you guys the best in your business expansion.

Jersey Mike's Subs

Category: Sandwiches
Neighborhood: Mission Valley

3.0 star rating
Update - 10/1/2011 1 photo
Changing review from 5 stars because of some bad workers they have there. I left there this week almost getting into a fist fight because of a jerky employee named CJ.

Anyway, here's what happened:

I was in line at approximately 2:30pm in the afternoon (non-rush hour) and literally saw 5 workers on their lunch break just chilling out. They had 4 ADDITIONAL employees (that makes 9 in the store at one time) behind the counter to which 1 was cooking the hot sandwiches, 1 was dedicated to cutting the deli meats, 1 was doing the sandwich prep (putting toppings on) and 1 was manning the register. With over 9 employees in the restaurant at one time, how could there be any inefficiencies right? Wrong!

There were only 6 customers in line including myself and it took me 13 minutes to get my sandwich from the time it was ordered to the time I received it. Not exactly the fast service I've come to expect from the Jersey Mike's franchise (to which I grew up on my whole life having lived in NJ over 25 years before moving to CA). After the guy slicing the meat was done with the sandwiches he was pretty much done with his process. Pretending to clean and re-clean the cutter. Then the guy preparing the sandwiches with toppings has about 8 sandwiches in the hopper so he was trying to prep them all himself but it was clearly a backup and other guys should have been prepping with him (maybe 2 guys working on toppings at once?). Or maybe management has it this way (only one person prepping)- which makes no sense.

The cash register guy was just standing there watching everything and had no one to ring up because all 6 of us were already rung up. So all 6 customers paid and none of us with our sandwich yet! I watched this continue on for about 10 minutes until saying to the kid "CJ" who rung me up "Hey man, just an idea, maybe you guys should ask your manager or owner if they can have 2 people prepping the sandwiches... because this is taking a long time to get our orders and it's obviously a little inefficient..." Exactly like that, and this kid went off as follows:

CJ employee: (surveying the customers and looking back at the employees) a big loud grin "O, I'M SORRRRRYYY IT'S TAKING TOO LONG FOR YOU (loud)! We're all happy here and are having a great day! I'm sorry you're having such a bad day!" Almost verbatim, that is what he said to me.

My response: "You're talking to me like I'm an A**hole?!" ... I proceed to continue and explain that there is an obvious service inefficiency and the guy cut me off with "O, now you're going to name call and curse at me?!" My response: "CJ, if you were listening to what I said, I said "YOU" are talking to "ME" like "I am an a**hole" (see: down-talking me being boisterous in attempts of embarrassing me in front of everyone and to get a rise out of me).

Anyway after a few words the kid has the audacity to challenge me to a fight: "You're lucky I'm behind this counter or else..." His words were cut off by one of the other employees who had common sense and enough decency to realize this kid was being a complete jerk off.

To finish things off, I went and spoke with the store manager and he said he would resolve things and he apologized. I really liked how the manager handled things as he seemed sincerely disgusted by CJ's actions. Now I would've probably left things to rest here but because of the nature of my experience and the fact CJ went as far as challenging me to a fight I wanted to let the owner of the store know so she can document it and here's what happened:

I called her twice alerting her that I had a serious problem/incident during a recent experience (later that same day I called) and it's been 4 days and still no return call after 2 voicemails).

If the owner of a business doesn't care enough to return a genuinely concerned customer's inquiry about a problem they encountered at their store that they own, I'm rather baffled. This experience may sum up why this place is not so consistent with customer service & general operational efficiency; or lack there of. Perhaps upper level management 'just doesn't care'?.

On a positive note, there are some very friendly workers who do a heck of a job here. Notably the african american girl in her mid 20's- I think who might be catering manager or some sort of shift manager (sorry I don't know name, and can't describe any other way). She always knows what I order and is so friendly & a pleasure to deal with. Quick and responsive and she seems to really take the bull by the horn and get things done.

All in all I'm pretty disgusted with my last experience here and almost feel like I now need to venture to a different location because of awkwardness that may happen based on my experience and this review. Jersey Mike's is still excellent subs and some of the best sandwiches around, but with a dysfunctional operation, poor execution and lack of care from upper management, it makes me really wonder if they care.

I'm originally from New Jersey, lived at 'the jersey shore' and grew up eating Jersey Mike's Subs. Every summer my family and I would swing by Jersey Mike's for a couple subs to take on our way to the beach. Jersey Mike's is legit and there is NO BETTER SUB out there. If you are the type of person that thinks Subway or Quizno's is the best sub in the world, then I'm not even going to argue- you are just on a different planet lol. Because those sandwiches are meatless and disgusting. If I had the $ I would own a Jersey Mike's Franchise because I believe they are that successful- always busy, plenty of customers, a simple business model and great food. This particular Jersey Mike's location is one of the best I've been to- fast service, clean facility, more attention to detail with their sub-making, and good efficiency overall, plus they have some dynamite sweet tea!

Jersey Mike's Subs pack a punch because they are loaded high with meat, have great seasoning, good toppings, and their bread is fresh. Yes, they may be a little more expensive than other sandwich or submarine shops, however the quality is at least triple of any competitor in the area and you also get double the meat! So in reality, you are paying a little more out of pocket but getting a lot more.

My favorite has always been the Club Supreme #9: Roast Beef, Turkey, sub Provolone for Swiss, Bacon, ,Mayo and 'Mike's Way' i.e. 'The Works' is what you call it in NJ (which is basically all the standard toppings). When you get the sub make sure you get light oil and vinegar and add mayo too. Trust me, it is the best taste. Don't forget to get the spices (which comes with Mike's Way) which is salt, pepper, oregano- a staple in any good sub. Their #2 is off the hook too and is truly a Jersey Shore fav. as that is what we used to eat all the time back in NJ.

I uploaded a pic of one of my recent sub purchases here so you can see the quality and size. Unfortunately you can't taste it through your computer screen, so go in and try one today!

Great service, reasonable prices, fast delivery time and friendly staff + free bottles of water= a winning ingredient. I like this location a lot because all the people working up front are very down to earth and just regular joes not trying to be anything else. They work hard and get the service done in a time frame as promised. I came here to get 2 new tires put on and it all went exceptionally well. Thanks for the good service and the timely process.

Great tacos but awful service from the waitstaff to the management. They really could care less about their customers. The seating process is a crap shoot where it's basically you fending for your own to get a table versus all the other hungry people there. The service time is pitifully slow. The tacos are delicious no doubt; but because of the terrible customer service I experienced on 2 attempts dining here I never returned. I can't get how a restaurant can treat people like dirt and expect to continue to grow a successful business. Sooner or later bad service and a pompous attitude will cripple a business.

Solid! Coming from NJ where I spent most of my life, I know a good pizza. After living in San Diego for a while I've only found maybe 1 or 2 good pizza joints. Landini's is one of my new favorites. Delicious NY/NJ style thin crust pizza that is flavorful, cooked just right and the correct texture. Lots of pizzas on the west coast are usually under cooked, soggy and generally bland. Landini's does not disappoint as they have several toppings and custom pies to choose from. I really like this place and will definitely order again. A+

Coop's West Texas Barbeque

I've eaten at DOZENS of quality BBQ restaurants in Texas from West Texas and Central Texas out in the middle of no where to Austin to East Texas, Dallas and Forth Worth. I thought I would never be able to bring a little bit of Texas back with me in form of BBQ other than the sauce they sell at their stores in TX. Well today changed my mind on eating BBQ in California forever!

I stopped by Coop's BBQ joint in Lemon Grove today for lunch. Low and behold I had the opportunity to meet Coop himself. I noticed great service from the start. I ordered the 2 item lunch special combo w/ 2 sides and I chose Pork Ribs & Beef Brisket w/ Potato Salad and Cornbread. All 4 items knocked my socks off.

A good way to tell quality BBQ is how it tastes WITHOUT the sauce! I tried it first without his sauce and it was delicious. Well after adding some of the BBQ Sauce on the ribs and brisket, it was simply mouth watering. The sides were good too and reminded me of southern style cooking that a grandma would make for her family.

To top off my good experience with great friendly service and delicious food; they provide sweet tea FREE of charge! AND, it's good sweet tea!

If you know anything about real BBQ, the way BBQ competitions grade contestants and the texture and flavor objectives; well you will find Coop's is spot on.

Coop's West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove is now my favorite BBQ joint not only in California, but even better than my previous favorite- RUDY'S BBQ in Texas! A+ to Coop's & fam. No other BBQ joint in San Diego county has anything on Coop's. I'll see ya'll again very soon.

Anny's Fine Burger

Unimpressed. I noticed the large menu with delicious looking burgers so my girlfriend and I popped in to try this place out. I also saw their little sign by the register- something to the extent of 'Please pardon the wait time and expect 8-15 minutes from time of your order to delivery of it. All items are cooked upon order. You will understand the wait once you taste the quality.' (that is paraphrased as I don't remember the exact wording).

Anyway, I saw 8-15 minutes, so I thought- ok if it's a really good burger I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. I ordered an Ultimate Cheeseburger and my girlfriend ordered the Korean BBQ Cheese Steak.

Long story short- it took exactly 27 minutes counting from the ticket time to the time of delivery! That is almost double the time of their top end estimate. I've been to fine restaurants and when ordering a burger I can't remember it taking more than 15 minutes to get it. How could this place take THAT LONG!

On top of that, when checking in while waiting 'Hey how are we doing with this? ... It's been 20 minutes already...' etc. the people looked at me dumbfounded like I'm out of my mind to expect this sooner than 20 minutes. After finally getting the order after 27 minutes I commented like 'wow, that sure took a long time - your sign mentions 8-15 minutes, what was up with the wait?' The guy gave me a blank stare and said 'yea, I know'. Nothing like I'm really sorry it took so long, or anything- just 'yea i know.'

Based on how slow the service is here I probably won't be back. O- And on to the food quality. Yea it was pretty good, but definitely not the best burger or cheese steak I've ever had. And I asked for Medium and it came back Well Done. The establishment is nice and a great concept, but please- stick to a time frame you display- when expectations/promises are not met, customers feel shafted. Mixed Feelings about this place.
