Verizon Fios

I got ready to move in November and called Verizon to set up internet at my new rent house.  Oh how excited I was to finally be 100% done with AT&T everything.

I went from paying $55 a month for a landline phone (that was only used for my alarm system... because Time Warner's phones were not compatible) and $127 a month for cable and internet through Time Warner..... to.... $128 TOTAL for all three services.  I love it when you move and things get cheaper.

I love my Verizon Fios! The internet is crazy fast. The FIOS TV system is great, it never cuts off shows in the middle of a recording like TWC DVR did. You can control, schedule & delete stuff off of your DVR from any internet connection.  While, again, my home phone is mainly for my alarm system, the few times I have actually called someone on it the sound has been great.

I'll probably be moving again come the end of November {this rent house has serious foundation issues that are getting worse as the days go buy}... but being in a Verizon FIOS service will be one of my requirements for my next residence.

Vicki {the groupon monster} and I have been here twice.  The first time our voucher was good for an appetizer, two entrees & a dessert up to a certain amount.  The second voucher was for a set dollar amount.

Our first visit we started with the Botana Platter {2 chicken piquetes, 2 chicken flautitas, 2 spinach quesadillas & 2 corn tortillas filled with jack cheese & poblano rajas. Served with sour cream, guacamole, & chile con queso}.  We really enjoyed most of the platter but the piquetes were too hot for even me to eat.

That night I had the Seafood Relleno en Chile Ancho {open faced ancho chile on a bed of cilantro lime rice filled w/ seafood mix, consisting of tilapia filet & salad shrimp served with asparagus & a delicious seafood cream sauce} and this was pretty darn good eats.  I had never seen an open faced (and not fried) Relleno before, but this is really how it should be done.

On our second visit I ordered the Mar y Tierra - (surf-n-turf) Black Angus Select beef tenderloin topped with melted Oaxaca cheese, accompanied with 3 shrimp sautéed in mojo de ajo (garlic, lime, & butter).  I think my eyes rolled back in my head a couple of times.

But the real reason to come to this place... DESSERT.

Tequila-Cajeta Crepes - homemade crepes bathed in our homemade Tequila-cajeta sauce, sprinkled with toasted almonds & served with our homemade Tequila-cajeta whip cream.

You may think you are full.  You may think you don't want dessert.  You are wrong.  Even our co-worker Frances who doesn't really like "sweet stuff" ordered this and loved it.  It is the perfect combination of caramel and nuts and soft fluffy crepes.  Yum.

My evil twin, her hubby, two kids another family friend and I have been getting together for dinner every other Friday night for a couple of months now.  Each week a different person gets to pick where we go.  So far, we've been to Norma's, Blue Fish, and Kenny's Italian.

I had been here once before with a friend way back in 2005 but I couldn't even remember what I had.  So I when I found out that Tracey's hubby had picked Bavarian  Grill for this past week's Evil Family dinner... I had to call my friend and ask what I ordered.

I was told to order the Jäger Schnitzel which was a breaded schnitzel is topped with a rich sauce and many mushrooms, served with tiny pasta dumplings and our signature mixed salad.

Along with 4 bread baskets we started off with Kartoffel Pfannkuchen mit Sauerrahm und Apfelmus (potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce) and 3 cups of the  Gulasch Suppe (Spicy Goulash Soup with beef, pork, paprika, onions and peppers).  This soup is going to be the reason I add this to my "Comforting Soups" List (http://www.yelp.com/li...).

The Schnitzel was great and crunchy and the mushroom grave was rich and delicious.

I loved the Signature Mixed Salad... cause lets face it.  When you are allergic to lettuce, how often do I really get to enjoy a salad?  Shredded carrots, sliced pickles, sliced beets, tomatoes & green beans.  It had a great dressing on it and was my favorite thing of the night.

Chris joined the beer club so I'm sure the Evil Family Dinners will circle back to Bavarian Grill soon.

The real estate management company that services the house that I rent recently moved to an office here at Firewheel.  I drove up and down the main drag of the center twice before I found the unmarked door to the mall offices.  The office building looked nice enough.  I will only be here once a month to drop off my rent.

A Mall/Shopping Center really has no attraction for me.

My 2nd visit to Geisha last week was pretty much the same as Jennifer described my first visit back in 2009.  Ok.  Not spectacular.  Pretty standard.

My co-worker had bought a discount voucher through Travel Zoo which was good for 2 appetizers & 2 entrees up to $40 for lunch.

This time Vicki and I shared the Crispy Shrimp Rolls and the Shrimp Tempura as our appetizers.  She ordered the Chicken teppan and I ordered the Filet for our entree's.

I love the fact that they have a beef broth based soup available instead of miso for those of us who don't do soy.

I believe that Vicki said we have one more discount voucher for this place so I am sure I will be back before it expires.

This would be a 5 star review except for one little detail.  They don't have plain jane regular ole' ICED TEA.  WTH?!?!  I am normally a fruit tea person but the tea that they have at Truluck's is obnoxiously sweet and I just can't do it.  Especially when you order tea and they do not even bother telling you that it is flavored or sweet before you order it.  My dad doesn't drink sweet tea or flavored tea as he is a diabetic.  It is really short sighted of a restaurant to not offer regular tea.  It's not like a pitcher of tea costs more than $0.04 to make.

I don't drink water and I sure don't drink Pepsi (yuck). I only drink sodas maybe once a month, tops.... so it really really does put a huge dent in what could have been a perfect meal when you sit there with NOTHING TO DRINK.  If I come back here, I might have to just bring a thermos of tea in my purse.

My parents and I came here for my birthday during KRLD Restaurant Week 2011 last August and my mother hasn't shut up about that meal since.  They finally planned a weekend to come back and visit so we could eat here again a couple of weekends ago {my half-birthday, yes, my parents will use any excuse to get a good meal out of Waco}

My dad and I started with the crab & corn chowder and my mom ordered the Sonoma Greens Salad which she hasn't stopped talking about in over 7 months.

I ordered the Miso-Glazed Seabass (without the Miso, I don't do soy/poison) on a bed of crab fried rice and cucumber slaw.  It was very good.  Seabass is my favorite fish and it was perfectly cooked. Creamy, buttery, goodness.

My dad had the fried shrimp & mashed potatoes and my mom ordered just a pan seared redfish with a side of marinated mushrooms.  It was all delicious.

For dessert we had the Sugar Free Coconut Cream Pie. Don't let the Sugar Free fool you, this pie is seriously ridiculously amazing.  I was informed after the fact by a friend that I should have ordered something called a Chocolate Purse... but the desserts here are so big 1 is big enough for 3 people... with some left to take home!

Dear Trulucks... PLEASE get plain Iced Tea so I can fully enjoy my meal at your establishment.

I've been here twice to pick up to go orders for people in my office and then in January we had a birthday lunch here.  {The birthday boys got to pick}.

I'm sorry. I am just SPOILED.  Hamburger patties should be thicker than a finger nail.  They should also be MEDIUM RARE.  The two meat patties on my Texas Chili Burger were burnt to a crisp.

The bottle caps, the root beer and the friendly service are why I gave this place two stars... but since the majority of their menu is burgers, I just can't give them any more than that.

If you can't cook a burger Medium Rare, I can't eat your burgers.

I used to eat here quite a bit when I lived in the area.  I recently moved back on this side of town and stopped here on my way home from Target because face it... no one wants to go home and cook after grocery shopping for two hours.

Lets just face it.  The Chinese Food scene in DFW SUCKS.  Sadly, this is about as best as can be found.

I had the peppercorn shrimp & kobari beef.  They were both good.  The rice, was still pretty crunchy and underdone.

Not my favorite place, but it will do in a pinch when you are starving, exhausted, and still have to go unload a car full of groceries when you get home.

This is my go-to location for home improvement needs.  I lived around the corner from this location for three years and even though I have since moved to the other side of Plano, I still head to this location.... {gives me an excuse to go get a bubble tea down the street at Fat Straws}.

When I moved to the area in 2008 they even helped me by cutting a few pieces of wood to a certain size to fix the frame of my waterbed that was broken by the awful movers I had used.  I also came here when I wanted to build a little shelf thing to bridge a gap between my computer desk and the file cabinets that were stacked in the corner of the room.

They have great prices on light bulbs and cleaning supplies.

They also donated a couple large pieces of plywood that we have been able to use for signs at the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America for the past 4 years.

Chicken Fried Steak bigger than the plate? Yep!

Ate dinner here a few nights ago with a friend. I ended up bringing over half my chicken fried steak home as there was no way anyone could finish that thing... even when your friend keeps reaching over and picking bites off your plate. :-)

The smashed taters were good, but since he was stealing my chicken fried steak, I started stealing bites of his cheddar grits because they were even better.  I also stole a bite of his filet and it was very yummy.

Not in this area much, but would definitely come back.
