JS Chen Dim Sum & Barbeque

Category: Chinese

4.0 star rating

JS Chen is a nice departure from the usual Maxim's or Kirin Court dim sum fare. Although a bit further drive up north to Legacy and 75, it's a welcome change.

The restaurant itself is much smaller in size than the 2 previously mentioned but it's bigger than it looks. There's the main dining room and a bigger room to the side with bigger tables for large parties. The service was spotty but not complaints here. Food came out quickly and all was fresh. No special or unique dim sum dishes but you still get your dim sum classics: dumplings, fried dishes, buns etc. The bill came out to be around $15 a person which wasn't bad for the amound of food we ordered.

2 thumbs up!

Think Chipotle, but with Korean/Asian food. You walk up to the counter and choose from the pre-built rice bowls or customize your own. I opted to build my own on this visit. You choose your meat, 3 veggies, and type of rice. They have brown rice, score! They quickly compile your bowl for you and you move on to the sauce selection. The pork we had was already seasoned well so I didn't need much sauce, but there are a few good ones to choose from. I particularly like the yellow curry sauce or the "Seoul on Fire," which wasn't too spicy. This a nice clean restaurant, fun concept, ok price, and good service. The food is ok but I'll have to come back and try the pre-built bowls.

Hunky's Hamburgers

I really like the black and white pictures of old Dallas hanging on the walls here. Very nice touch. Oh yeah, the burgers and food are pretty good. My wife had the guacamole burger and I had a basic bacon-cheeseburger. The burgers aren't huge but they are a good size and allow enough room for you to enjoy some fries or tator tots. They didn't have any regular fries on a Monday night (weird?) so we had some chili tots. Back to the burgers. The meat is seasoned well and they don't overdue the veggies/mayo/mustard. Our tots were just basic tots with some chili dressing. All in all a decent burger joint with good service if you're in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here as there are better places but Hunky's still gets my thumbs up.

Yea, I'm a fan. From the owners of DSS (DanSungSa) comes this huge bar/restaurant for all your Korean food/drink needs. The place is much much  different then DSS. It's tucked away near the back of the H-Mart shopping center right off I-90. Don't know what this place used to be but it's huge. The main room has seperate tables and rooms and then you have the upstairs section. Didn't go upstairs but apparently there's lots of space also.

Just like DSS, this place has a whole menu of korean bar foods and beverages. I must admit, I wasn't able to try much but if it's like DSS, then we're all happy. I met some new friends and had to have my wife drive me home. Yeah, it's one of those places....

I wouldn't advise going here unless you're Vietnamese or have a Vietnamese guide...heck, I'm Vietnamese and this place still scares me sometimes. The grocery store is the main highlight of the mall and like every other Asian market, they provide cheap, fresh food options and it smells like poo on the inside. The food court? I would stay away unless you have a stomach made of steel.

Star Full Service Car Wash

Been going here since I first started driving. Compared to other washes, they have reasonable prices and options ranging from just exterior to full service detail. They can get pretty packed on nice days but are usually pretty quick to get you in and out. Unfortunately they don't have some of the gadgets that newer washes might have (the compressed air blower to get the drops from the cracks) but still do a good job. Remember to check the billboard becuase they have specials on some weekends that can save you $3-5 depending on the type of wash.

You can't go wrong with World Market, you just can't. We don't go here to often but when we have a party or when the holidays roll around, this is the place to go. They've got everything! Furniture, gifts, stationary, and photo frames.

On the food side they have packaged food from around the world (gee, I wonder why they're called world market?). We're talking variety from countries I've never even heard of. And then the booze section: all types of beer sold in cases or mix and match, and lots of wine/sparkly.

The associates are usually very helpful and knowledgeable as well. I particularly like this location because it doesn't get as packed as the one on Greenville/Lovers but still the same great product.

WooGak Korean BBQ Restaurant

It was a cold, stormy night and the wife I and wanted some korean stew. WooGak came to the rescue! The outside of this restaurant makes it look much smaller than it really is. We you first walk in, you'll see a long hallway with high ceilings and seperated rooms on each side. As in all Korean bbq places you have your table set-up with a gas grill in the center. We opted to try one of the beef stews and we were very happ with the choice. The server was nice enough to describe the ban chan dishes to us and a few minutes later our stew came out. They utilized the gas grill to boil the stew (think shabu shabu). The stew had dumplings and a ton of noodles, veggies etc. We were stuffed but left happy. I'm a fan and will be coming to try to bbq soon, very soon.

I really want to like this place, I really do. I've always been a fan of Mockingbird station (yay for free parking!) and wish there were more places to try here. A buddy and I hit up this bar on a Thursday night wanting to try a new place. It was somewhat empty but they still had a DJ spinning some beats so thumbs up on that. There were many specialty drinks to try but we tried the holiday drinks they had posted. I asked the bartenders for their recommendation and neither of them had tried or made any of the drinks I mentioned, so red flag there. They spent a good 3-5 minutes making our drinks and they turned out to be quite good. The space itself is pretty good size and I do think this place has a good future. The staff seemed pretty nice but it looks like there a re some kinks they're working out. I'll be back again soon to have a drink, or 4.

I'll have to come back and give PS a full review, but this is based on the bar/drinks. The wife I and wanted to grab a few drinks after our dinner here just to check it out (we are Top Chef - Tiffany fans). It's right on the section of Mckinney that can get bottlenecked on a busy night and the valet in front didn't help. Luckily we found street parking and skipped the mess.

The place is divided into 2 sections, the bar and main dining area. We tried the bar area and it was packed. People were actually eating entrees on the bar, making it hard for us to squeeze in and grab a drink. The bartender was super nice and made our 2 specialty cocktails to perfection. We weren't so impressed with douchey crowd here but I guess that's to expected for this section of Uptown. Not too excited but we'll have to come back again for the food.
