Our server, a Vanilla Ice lookalike, was friendly enough. The sashimi was really good and so was the pork belly appetizer. Congee was a bit bland for my taste but my partner really enjoyed it. Rolls were good but not memorable and neither were the other few dishes. Pearl dumplings were small and not that tasty. Definitely not worth $8! Singapore noodles were really lacking, like they forgot the curry altogether. I've had a lot of Singapore noodles and I didnt think that was one you could screw up. Treasure rice wasn't bad but nothing to write home about.

We might come back for happy hour but definitely not for the regular menu.

Okay, let me start by saying that the staff is very very lovely, and gracious also very very apologetic. They totally made up for the stuff gone wrong by taking a bunch of stuff off the bill. More on that later. Here's how it went.

Three of us went there on a Friday. The place wasn't super busy and our server was really friendly. The deviled eggs wrapped in bacon were pretty yummy. A tad sloppy but if you could cram it into your mouth in one go, you'd be fine. The Frisky Whiskey cocktail, served in a pint glass, was tasty and refreshing, a bit like root beer.

The pricing of the entrees seemed a bit inconsistent -- $24 for a half chicken but $16 for cod? Anyways, I got the cod which turned out to be a "fish n chips" entree, except there's no chips (hmm a bit confusing since it wasn't clear from the menu what this was all going to look like). It's actually a fried piece of cod with warm potato salad. Both were delicious. The house made tartar sauce was far too salty though, and my salt addicted friend agreed.

Also delicious was the mac and cheese -- really cheesy and rich, but the salad it came with was heavy on the vinegar. The one that was the most disappointing was the burger, which we ordered medium, but it arrived quite well done and dry. The house made tater tots my partner thought were good, but they were more like fried mashed potatoes and I missed the lumpy texture of commercial tater tots. I know, lame.

The other issue with the main entrees is that they just took forever to arrive. I was feeling bad for the server because she was really nice and I think she was stressing out about the kitchen being slow. Anyways, we let them know about the burger and they were happy to take it off the bill and apologized several times. They offered to bring us a dessert on the house but we'd been there so long waiting for the food that we had to get going to get one of us in bed for a 5am wake up the next day.

So, generally some tasty bites to be had there, really nice staff who are trying super hard, but some misses on the food and getting it to tables in a timely manner. It's also super loud, and uncomfortably chilly in there (bring a jacket).
But they are really new so I'd say they'll work out the kinks soon enough.

Amazing. I rarely visit Belltown but boy am I glad I did. We had a big group dinner booked upstairs where it got a little toasty for the guys but I quite enjoyed the warmth. You can look down at the beautiful wood decor and check out the chalkboard that lists where they source their ingredients --- everything is from within 360 miles. Awesome.

Poutine didn't used cheese *curds* like real Canadian poutine does, but it was very tasty. Their fries are addicting. Not super skinny ones but not the big fat ones which I dislike, and not double fried (which has lost its novelty for me).

I got the beet salad which was excellent, the pork belly -- to DIE FOR -- and also tried the burger. Fantastic medium/rare burger which is so hard to get. It was all really really delicious, flavorful, cooked perfectly. Friends had the steak and it was bad ass. They really know how to cook meat just right. They also had lots of great local beer on tap. And the chocolate mousse for dessert was sooooo good -- light in texture and rich in flavor at the same time. As was the cheesecake which is also quite a generous portion and served with fresh strawberries. The desserts are definitely shareable although they're so good I could probably put one away all by myself, maybe even two.

Oh and the service was pretty good, very friendly. It's usually tough with a big crowd but the food and beer kept on coming. It was great! CAN'T WAIT to go back.

I've been there once and it wasn't great.  And unfortunately will be back again, but it's to see a friend's performance so this is for her, and to see some other friends also attending. After that, screw this place.

I just made the reservation and the guy who took my call was the biggest ASSHOLE I've ever spoken to on the phone. This is how the call went, word for word:

me: Hi, wondering if I could make reservations for tomorrow
him: There's seating at the bar.
me: Oh, ok, would there also happen to be seating available at a table?
him: [cutting me off] THERE IS SEATING AT THE BAR
me: uhhh, ok I was just asking because I want to make sure I can see my friend perform from wherever I'm sitting ....
him: [cutting me off] I'M TELLING YOU WE HAVE SEATING AT THE BAR. DO YOU WANT THIS RESERVATION OR NOT?

What the fuck?

Dude, if answering a short, polite inquiry about your reservation availability pisses you off that much you need to 1. quit your job 2. find one that does not involve interacting with other human beings 3. get some god damned anger management therapy or go ahead and fall off a cliff. We really need fewer people like that inhabiting the earth.

Oh yeah, I'm going to occupy that SEATING AT THE BAR, have my whatever drink minimum and take my money somewhere else for dinner. Up yours Tula's.

Oh man, that chicken, broccoli, cheese piroshki was delicious. They're all $4.85 which seems a bit pricey but they're pretty dense and filling. I know it was good because I woke up thinking about it the next day. Still thinking about it. Kinda don't want to know how many calories was in that thing.

hmmm I really find the Elysian on Capitol Hill a lot better for both food and service.

I come here because it's close to work and it's huge so it's easy to get a table for big crowds for afterwork happy hours and stuff. They even have a back room area. But the service is slow and the food is really really lacking. I've had the Cuban sandwich and it was really meh.... Soups aren't bad but the steak sandwich was chewy and totally unseasoned. Like not a grain of salt and I'm not one to add salt to restaurant food, ever. I'm going to have to find something decent that you can't mess up and just stick to it. I'm thinking burger or quesadilla.

D'Ambrosio Gelato

I've been here twice, the first time I wasn't super impressed. I had gotten salted caramel and something else I don't even remember because, well, it wasn't memorable. I was also a litte annoyed by two things --- half the flavors dont have the little signs telling you what they are (how hard is it to put up the little signs?) and they dont have the flavors that I look for in gelato (my fave is Mario's Gelato in Vancouver, BC.... now that is where you get flavor variety but I digress). I really really wanted some Ovaltine, green tea, black sesame, or Horlicks gelato (Asian thing) and they dont have them and probably won't because they don't meet their organic ingredient guideline or something.

Anyways, I gave it another shot on Saturday and found the coffee flavor and the crunchy biscotti to be really good. Tasted the chocolate and it was pretty underwhelming. Sigh. So hit and miss. You kinda need to pick the right flavors and try not to get annoyed about having to ask the staff to point out each flavor  (note: that is particularly difficult if you're short and cant see/hear them as they name each flavor).

Not just a restaurant... an experience. I took my partner there for his bday and it was unforgettable. Ron was our server and he was just fantastic. Attentive, interested, knowledgable without being snooty, which is always a fear for me at fancy pants places like this.

$49 gets you three dishes of your choice. $37 more if you want to pair wine as well. The lamb gnocchi was excellent. SO flavorful. The pork was to die for, my favorite dish. The halibut was a very generous portion and yummy. I loved that they brought us a few little items from the kitchen including this mascarpone whipped chocolate gelato dessert that I will NEVER forget. Holy cow it was good. The chocolate cake was also delicious. We sat at the bar to watch the chefs do their amazing work. The presentation was just so beautiful and they were friendly with guests who had questions about the food. We had such a great time. Be sure to leave plenty of time to really enjoy the experience.

Can't wait to find another reason for some special occasion dining.

Regent Bakery & Cafe

Lemme preface this by saying I'm a total Chinese food snob. I'm from Chinese food heaven (Vancouver, BC) and I haven't found any place in Seattle proper to get my fix. I can't stand that Chinese American egg foo yung, general tso bullshit. That is NOT real Chinese food. Purple Dot and Jade Garden will do in a pinch, but it's not awesome. Not good enough to take my parents without them complaining hard core.

I stick to Thai, Vietnamese and some Japanese around here and wait 'til I go home to get some real Chinese food. I have had some decent Chinese over in Bellevue, but that's Bellevue. It takes a lot to get me over to the east side.

But Regent opened up and it was more than a bakery... who knew!? I sure didn't. The menu is huge and it's authentic, amazing Cantonese cuisine. The garlic eggplant stuffed with shrimp -- holy. cow. delicious. Fried rice awesome. Oh, and the BBQ duck was perfection. I dont usually think cocktails at a Chinese restaurant but the lavender one was delightful. The green tea cocktail not quite as good, but not bad.

The baked goods are wonderful and the prices aren't marked up like I thought they'd be. I'm docking one star for not having pots of Chinese tea. You can't have Chinese food without some good old jasmine tea by the pot. Old folks insist that it helps work the fat from the food out of your body. They have tea but coffee shop style -- cup at a time from a tea bag. Just doesn't seem right. Ya gotta bring tea to the table as soon as customers come in. Also, the place is pretty new but our server forgot to punch in an appetizer and forgot one of our drinks too. The food makes up for that. But Regent, pleeeeeeease serve jasmine tea.

Best vodka I've ever tasted and I tasted it straight up no ice. Gin is also excellent. Staff was super friendly and enthusiastic and I met the owner at the Century Ballroom 15th anniversary dinner - really nice guy!

Really hope they do well. You can get their stuff at PoCo Wine Room up on 14th @ Pine.
