The seating and comfort level of a restaurant should factor into one's review. Based on the dining area's being somewhat "under construction," I'm downgrading Flaming Grill to FOUR stars.
Here's a place in Auburn that has comfortable seating, central heating and air conditioning, and prices/quality that is comparable to Flaming Grill: http://www.yelp.c...
Came here with the entire family: Great menu, lots of food, reasonable prices.
Daughter had the "Carne Asada" plate, she really liked it a lot. WIfe had the 1/2 pound mushroom swiss Sirloin burger.....I've never seen her finish a burger that huge before! I had the Cheddar Bacon Buffalo Burger with fries, a cholesterol inducing delight. (mine was a little overcooked, but I think buffalo meat is harder to cook than beef).
For dessert, we all had the Chocolate Mousse Cake.......really good ending to a great meal.
Even though the food is 5-star......please be advised that the interior decor is somewhat of a "Work In Progress." The propane heaters are nice, otherwise you'd freeze to death in the winter time. It looked like they had a busy lunch rush that day, as I've been there when it was cleaner.
Outstanding burger & sandwich joint, open from 7 am (breakfast) to 8 pm (lunch/dinner).
I had the "Cafe Burger," ($4.99) which comes with fries. The fries are seasoned with a very light dusting of salt & other seasonings. The burger needed to be cut in half with a knife, because its really two burgers and my wife doesn't like to see me eating this huge sandwich all at once. The patty is 1/3 pound and was grilled to perfection. I asked for Medium Rare to Medium (pink in the middle) and it was exactly as ordered.
Wifey had the Grilled Ahi sandwich ($7.99) She drank water, I had a soda, the entire bill was around $17 including tax & tip.
About the same price as two burgers with fries & one drink at Squeeze Inn.
I didn't find the place cramped at all, this place has beautiful tile floors and a granite style countertop that surrounds the bay window that overlooks the car port. Bathroom was super clean!
Their web site gives a little background about the Husband-and-Wife owner-operators:
"Chef Jose Silva has over 20 years experience in the food industry. He found his passion for food at the young age of 13 when he helped his mother and father create delicious meals at their family restaurant. In his adult years, Jose has made a career of managing major restaurant chains and training the next generation of chefs. Jose's dream was to one day open a restaurant of his own. This dream has now come to fruition.
Laura Silva believes in the marriage between fine foods with reasonable prices. Her specialty is catering from "everyday to gourmet." With seven years experience in the food industry, Laura will make all of your special events memorable."
I'll second that.....I just nominated them for "Best Burger Joint" in the KCRA Channel 3 A-List poll for 2008, and I hope some other Yelpers will join me in voting for Jose & Laura!!!
Its been many years since I've eaten here, but I seem to recall the food is nothing to write home about. Karaoke nights are really awful! Have to agree with Shaun H (above) : "Complete garbage!"
Tried the spicy beef bento box, on Raymond T's advice, and it did not disappoint! Service was very good,
I'll definitely come back, as the prices are fair and reasonable here.

Spicy Tuna sandwich.........is now a regular daily special:
The sandwich has Max's great tuna salad recipe, modified with some Srichacha hot sauce, and the veggies are unique (red cabbage, shredded carrot, avocado, etc). All of this on a huge roll......you will be full all day long!
This time I decided to "down size" with a 1/2 sandwich & cup of soup (one of the lunch specials) -- the chicken & dumpling soup was amazing, after I hit it with one of the many bottles of Srichacha hot sauce that Max keeps around.
Surprisingly, the "half" sandwich was quite enough considering the ample portion of soup (its more like a bowl sized cup) and the two small slices of french bread that comes with the soup. The ingredients in the sandich (#6 turkey, avocado, swiss cheese) are always top notch and I love the way those globs of fresh avocado will juxt ooze out of the sandwich onto your fingers when you attempt to bite into it... Max provides plenty of napkins, you will need several of them!
I recently found out that Max's Deli & Catering Company now has a Facebook page.....this is still my favorite lunch place in North Auburn.
Its comforting to know that the food at Max's Deli has not changed, which is a good thing because its always GREAT and the prices are still very reasonable considering the quality of ingredients they are using.
So if you're in North Auburn on Monday thru Friday between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm, this continues to be the best lunch place in the area.
Unless you can afford a plane ticket to New York City, Max's will definitely be the best that Auburn, California can offer in delicattessen style sandwiches.
Max's Deli & Catering Company has been consistent on repeat visits.......I've returned, again and again, for the "#6"Sandwich (Turkey, with Avocado)........My daughter Allie is a big fan of their hot pastrami sandwich.
My Jewish momma (Allie's grandmother) gave Max's Deli two big thumbs up for the pastrami on rye. Max (the owner dude) even spoke to her in Yiddish, on one of our visits. Now you can't get more authentic N.Y. style than that!
Best time to go there, is around 11 am to 11:30 am, before the onslaught of office workers who cram into the joint for 2 hours straight on weekdays. You can also fax or call in your order, and pick it up in a special line, I guess.
Max's Deli is best enjoyed on an empty stomach, and in addition to those humunguous sandwiches, you will find some pretty decent soups and salads on the menu.
