The Peppermill Restaurant & Fireside Lounge

Our new favorite place in Vegas! Vintage Vegas ambiance, delicious food (huge portions), crazy 70s interior decor. And next door at the Fireside Lounge there's a liquid fire pit and either music videos or sports on dozens of TVs all around. Bonus trivia: Joe Pesci stabbed that dude in the neck with a pen here in "Casino".

Absolutely delicious. Wonderful service and fine dining at an affordable price (and conveniently off- strip). I had osso bucco over mushroom risotto and it was fall off the bone tender and the risotto had big shiitake mushrooms in it. They even bring you a marrow fork. Heck yes. My husband had a ribeye steak (cooked perfectly) and a baked potato (the size of a small boat). The decor is dated but this place was quiet and a welcome respite from the neon overstimulation of the rest of Vegas. Will definitely go back.

Good Thai food in Charlottesville. The drunken noodles were delish and spicy. The cigar rolls are like samosas in a spring roll - they'd have been more satisfying with a little more filling. My friend got the tofu cakes and said they were the bomb. Good music playing, too.

We loved this! It's $16 per person or $64 for a private ride (we did end up riding with strangers). We had Davido as our gondolier and besides his charming smile and lovely singing voice, after about 20 seconds he dropped the fake Italian accent and gave us the locals scoop on good places to eat (like the restaurant where Joe Pesci stabbed that dude in the neck in that one movie) and a couple awesome hikes in the area (turns out he was into hiking too). We loved the gondola ride. Worth the money.

It's gross. But it's cheap.

The check-in line wait is at least 30 minutes, and probably more if you check in later at night (we saw it double the length we waited). The parking situation is a real disaster and the garage is scary in both a "I might get mugged in this dark and winding weird building" way and in a "I might get run over by a taxi at any minute" way.

We stayed in the nicer remodeled rooms in the West Tower (we paid more for these, about +$18 per night) and it was worth it... we didn't experience any nasty problems that any of the other reviewers stated - except a leaky sink and a slow to drain tub. And the carpet was a little crunchy. But for like $175 for 4 nights, I can't really complain. I wouldn't stay here unless you have a rental car though - it's not very walk-able in relation to the part of the strip where the good stuff is.

Next time if we have a car (which we did this time) we'll stay off-strip and get Circus Circus prices without all the screaming children and inconveniences.

Cheap. Always has a room. Fridge, microwave and TV. free wifi. Good water pressure. Allows dogs. Next door to a decent diner. If you're in the area and need somewhere to sleep this place is alright. It's no five star resort but I have a soft spot for this place. :)

I'm a regular here. Great lunch spot. Their custom homemade soups are worth trying, they're always good. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. They do have healthy choices for those watching calories, but the best things on their menu in my humble opinion are the chicken salad, the gourmet grilled cheese, and the BLT.

The staff is nice and there's never much of a wait. You can get lunch for less than $8 with a sandwich, side, drink and cookie. Can't beat it.

Don't go to Subway across the street and eat mystery meat. Come here for a real sandwich.

Selden Arcade is a pretty art deco building, one of the few remaining awesome historic places in downtown Norfolk they haven't bulldozed to put up an ugly office building or hotel. It contains the d'ART center, where you can watch local artists work and buy their wares, my favorite Starbucks, and d'Egg diner.

There are tables around so you can eat lunch here. There's also free wifi but I've brought my MacBook there at least four times and it *never* works. My friend has connected but it's been mad slow.

CrossFit 757

CrossFit 757 is my gym. No, I'm not the owner, or even a trainer, but if you know anything about CrossFit, you know that each box is more than just a place to sweat. Its athletes create the vibe and make up the heart and soul of the place. And 757 gots soul.

If you're new to CrossFit, it's functional fitness at its best - pullups, pushups, olympic lifting, a little gymnastics, some running and rowing, oh yeah, and a lot of squats. Can't do a pullup? That's cool, it's infinitely scaleable and your trainer will work with you to modify each workout to YOUR level. Firebreathing athletes work out next to 50 year old men with mobility issues. We all work HARD, sweat and suffer together, and cheer each other on. It's not like any other gym I've ever been to.

Just because you'll get a trainer for every workout and constant coaching on your form, don't expect a globo gym with towel service. It's a standard CrossFit box - big warehouse, plentiful equipment (rowers, pullup bars, kettlebells, olympic lifting stuff - everything you'd expect to find at a CrossFit facility), no air conditioning or heating (which I'd also expect at a CrossFit facility haha).

We have hands down the best trainers in the 757. They run several classes at many convenient times throughout the day. There are Saturday and Sunday classes as well. I'm a regular at the 0530 class, and sometimes at the 6pm.

I don't know where else you can get personal training and coaching for $8 a class (punch card). I have an unlimited membership and it's absolutely worth the money.

Come for the excellent training and challenging workouts. Stay for the hot shirtless dudes.

GSS Crossfit

Probably the best-equipped and shiniest CrossFit facility in the area (by this I mean it's not your standard bare-bones warehouse with concrete floors - this place is upscale)! Working out here was a pleasure. Penny and Jess are awesome trainers and the GSS family made me feel right at home (I rolled my ankle during the running part of the workout and two people stopped to pick me up off the asphalt, awwww). Will definitely visit again.

Bonus - it's connected to the main GSS store which has a huge range of military and first responder gear, fitness equipment (kettlebells, olympic bars, bumper plates, etc), and camping/backpacking gear!
