Welcome to the neighborhood! You wouldn't think the East Village / LES would need another café, but this one was sorely needed this far east. Clean, warm, rustic, tasty -- I just now visited for the yogurt+granola+fresh fruit $5 & an iced redeye. Coffee gets an A. Food gets an A. And I saw some awesome looking toasted bagels being served. I was planning to get my food to go, but the cafe was so inviting I stayed. Good choice. Small place, big find.

Oishi Thai

I was excited to eat at Oishi Thai. I just returned from a trip to Thailand not too long ago, and I got an authentic Thai greeting on the phone when we rang to reserve a table.

Portions are large. It's nice that they have sushi and Japanese dishes, too. Sake and sake drinks are available in addition to beer & wine. My sake was tasty.

IMHO, the food was below par and overpriced. (Pls keep in mind that my avg is based upon NY Thai restaurants, but there is plenty mediocrity there, too). The staff are nice enough, tho, and we had a pretty big table... I would probably give this restaurant another try if I lived in the hood.

Has financial hardship had hit North Miami, while this restaurant was packed with ppl paying $20+ dollars for C- Pad Kee Mao? (Drunk Man Noodle -- excellent spicy dish when done right).

If I hadn't tasted the goo stuff, I would give this restaurant another star. As I will be heading back to where I can get A- Pad Kee Mao for $9, I will skip Thai @ Oishi from here on out.

My vote for best coffee and espresso in the city.
I loves me my coffee and espresso. I'm spoiled with an espresso bar in my office across the street from this place. So when it opened, I was like, I don't need your fancy coffee, Tribeca!
But I was wrong. They top off every iced coffee with espresso! It's the best thing. The very best. Their doppio macchiato is my favorite I've ever had* (*I have yet to visit Italy & a lot of Europe). This is one of those places where you get art in your foam. I want to hate it, but it's too damn good. The people working there are super nice and professional as well.

So, go ahead, try to hate it, too. But if you dare to drink the stuff, I bet you buckle.

I ordered takeout to try this place, so this review pertains to delivery food, not restaurant service or ambiance.

2 or 3 for the Food
I ordered their "signature dish" spicy basil noodles with beef. It was very mediocre. The spring rills were pretty good.

1 for delivery service
The delivery guy could not break a 20 -- he had zero change. Pretty unprofessional.
I'll probably give it one more shot, since good thai is for some uncanny reason hard to find in the LES. Anybody have a favorite - shoot it at me. I seem to keep haing to back to the East Village for the good stuff. Or Williamsburg.
I have to agree with a previous reviewer, that there's definitely a Hispanic take coming from the kitchen as well. I love most latino food, too, so that would not bother me if it enhanced the food. It didn't on their first delivery.

Don't get me wrong, the food is EXCELLENT. But when you call in for an order and get hung up on, then told on redial to "call back later we are very busy", and get hung up on again, something is severely wrong with the business. Every customer counts, Alidoro.

Stop acting like the Sandwich Nazis of Soho!!! (TM)

If they could manage taking orders 1/10th as well as they make sandwiches, this would be a far better go-to spot. The in-store wait is horrendous, hence the phone orders they should get a knack for. Take a lesson from Mooncake.

Sachiko can be very good. I moved into the hood near Sachiko, and was searching for a go to sushi joint. The staff is very friendly, and their 3 roll combo deals are great. I was hooked. Then, about 5 or 6 meals in, I had a bad experience with some sketchy takeout one night. I wrote it off as an anomaly. But within 2 weeks, I had another sketchy delivery, and my friend ordered chicken teriyaki that was so sub-par that I threw their menu in the trash with the chicken teriyaki. It's a shame, and maybe I was just unlucky with some stand-in chef. You can have a very good meal here, but beware of the occasional major disappointment.
