I betrayed my fellow countrymen because I really needed to see what's up with Japanese BBQ. Growing up on Korean BBQ and with the recent all you can eat craze, I was delightfully surprised with the utter bliss that ensued after eating a more reasonable quantity of meat at Tsuruhashi. The place is really small and almost always a wait, but it's not that bad. The location could be better since it's located in a plaza that looks like a homeless guy would slice you up into little pieces and then grill you at this place, but I'm not complaining since I practically grew up in FV's neighbor, Garden Grove.

Each dish of meat is pretty small, but if you take your time and sit there enjoying the quality of the meats with some beer and some sake, you'll leave with your wallet still feeling thick. We tried the Tsuruhashi salad, the ribeye, the tongue, intestines in miso sauce, pork cheek, outside skirt steak, etc... Everything was good, especially the intestines in miso sauce. Though it may not be your run of the mill all you can eat Korean BBQ where you gorge yourself into a meat coma, you'll more than likely enjoy yourself more with the epiphanic meat quality here. Definitely excited for the next time that I come here.

Mmm mmm mmm....
Tastes like you're eating at home...if you're mom knows how to cook and if she was Hawaiian (mine does not and is Korean). Nothing fancy about it, but definitely a must-try for anyone visiting.

-Chicken Long Rice
-Kalua Pork
-Lau Lau
-Beef Stew
-Portuguese Sausage
-Poke Squid
- it''s all good

Service is super friendly.
Super small joint. Parking is a hassle. Cash only.

King crab legs, lobster tails, champagne, caviar, oysters...it's all "meh" here. Pretty overrated. Lobster was a little overcooked, oysters were just okay, and how much caviar can one person really eat.

Service was on point.
Ambiance is pretty old school with a pinch of depressing.
Most of the people here are old white folk.

You're better off saving the ~$100 per person and going to Wicked Spoon (in my opinion, the best buffet for the value)!

Ham, bacon's ugly sister.
Never was a huge fan of ham.
Wasn't too stoked when a friend suggested this for breakfast. I was mistaken.
The breakfast burrito here has given me a new perspective in my quest for the greatest: crunch factor. The burrito is toasted on the outside, giving you a nice solid bite. Salsa is good, add Tapatio for the needed extra spice.

Location is small. Service is excellent.

My only complaint: burrito too small.
Could've been the best. So close.

Gen Korean BBQ and Yakitori Bar

Tips: Don't go during normal eating hours. 2 hour wait, is not the bizness.

It's a nice spot. Good ambiance and a good business model. Good looking girls standing around the front trying to figure out how to seat the millions of people waiting and the hard working, homely girls serving you food.

The quality of the meats is by far the best out of the Socal KBBQ joints and adopting the AYCE menu that Star BBQ implemented has done wonders for their business. So much so that Shik Do Rak in Irvine has followed suit.

Definitely worth multiple trips back.

Nana San

Friday night...ridiculous wait. We put our names down here, tried going to Mama D's and Crow Burger, failed, then came back to wait another hour.

Nana San is essentially a spin-off of Angotei. Fortunately for fans of Angotei, quality has not suffered.

Got the omakase (reasonably priced). A few of the notables:

- Spanish Mackerel (Aji): Awesome fish, but the best part of this is the fact that they deep fry the bones for you later.
- Sweet Shrimp (Amaebi): They deep fry the heads on these bad boys too.
- Red Snapper (Tai): Lightly dabbed with some yuzu and salt.
- Monkfish Liver (Ankimo): Not overly ocean-y. Very nice texture.
- Blue Fin Tuna (Kuromaguro): Super silky.
- Conch (Makigai): The flesh actually had some tooth to it, mild in flavor. The guts on the other hand tasted like Monkfish Liver that was aged in the crease of your muffin top. Potent...not that bad.

Definitely belongs in a list of the top sushi bars in Orange County.

Wicked Spoon Buffet

These buffet lines are ridiculous. Must be all the Asians and Jews out to get the most bang for their buck. Luckily for us, someone in our group just walked up to the VIP line and chatted up the Mexican cashier sistah. Right on through to the next hellish line to be seated.

Unlike the regulars (Wynn buffet, Bellagio buffet, Sterling brunch, etc...), Wicked Spoon is probably the best deal for a buffet in this city. I think it was somewhere around the range of $40 ( ~$30 + ~$10 for unlimited Champagne, Bloody Marys, Mimosas). That's pretty damn cheap, and if that isn't for you, there's no reason that you should be in Vegas in the first place.

I especially enjoyed the proper apportioning of food. Helps prevent the Asian moms from grabbing 20 lbs. of King Crab legs and helps you pace yourself to try everything at least once. Nice selection of dishes that are prepared, that breaks away from the traditional buffet model.

They have a pretty awesome dessert section as well.

Go throw up then get ready for Marquee. Cosmo is definitely hitting it big.

Secret Pizza

Category: Pizza

5.0 star rating

- No sign telling you where you are.
- Open until 5 AM.
- They sell PBR dispensed in red cups
- The irony of having a restaurant that sells $5 slices of NY style pizza next door to places like Jose Andres' Jaleo and Estiatorio Milos.
- Limited amount of seating.

Everything about this place screams hipster, and normally I would avoid places like this like the plague, but turns out that it's pretty damn good. Someone bought a whole pizza for the room, and after we come back from the clubs at like 6 in the morning, I find a half-eaten, cold slice of pepperoni and sausage buried under some paper...still amazing. This pizza passes with flying colors on the time test.

Later...instead of eating at Jaleo, I get a strong hankering for pizza. Hot and fresh out of the oven...effing delicious.

The best Menchi katsu that I've ever had, hands down.
Their use of Kurobuta pork to make katsu is likened to places like Burger Bar using Kobe beef to make burger patties. Delicious, but probably not worth it.

The sauce was amazing (they bring out freshly toasted sesame seeds with a small mortar and pestle. Grind the seeds then add their homemade katsu sauce to the bowl.

Points for also having Premium Yebisu in bottles.

Happy that I tried it.
Worth it? Maybe

The Original Rinaldi's

Nothing beats a quality sandwich. The convenience, the functionality, the ability to throw together any amalgam of ingredients together to create a portable form of sustenance. Few can perfect the art form of sandwich sculpting, Rinaldi's is one who can. The gods shine down on this place.

Tried the Godfather. Wanted to marry it.

Quality Boar's Head meats, quality bread, good selection of chips (of which are not deceptive with the air fill volume to chip ratio), quick/friendly Asian service.
