Buddha Nails and Spa II

I just got a manicure from this place last night. Normally their manicures are $11, which is super cheap for the city anyway, but I used a Lifebooker coupon (which is still available for a few days -- feel free to help a fellow Yelper out and sign up with my referral link:  http://bit.ly/uGImc5). It was $5, so, since she didn't break one of my nails or cut off one of my fingers, I can't complain.

A non-rating-affecting note: You probably will get stared at while your nails are drying, because you'll be facing the street. At one point a guy stared me down and after a few moments yelled, "I thought that was a mannequin!"

I go mainly for the hot chocolate (they melt in chocolate chips!) and apple crumb pie, both of which are great. Also recommended: the brownie thing with the dollop of whipped peanut butter on top and the chocolate cheesecake.

My only complaint is they don't always seem 100% on what they're serving. I went in about a week ago, asked about a pie that hadn't been cut yet, and neither of the girls working could tell me what kind it was. In retrospect I probably should've just asked them to slice it open a bit and take a peek, but hey, you live you learn.

This is one of my favorite theaters. It's clean and never too crowded, probably because it's a bit out of the way and the building it's in is under construction.

I popped in here after seeing they were having a sale on shoes and handbags -- this place is fucking bombass. It's small and not too pricey, especially for the East Village, and the girl who checked me out was super helpful.

I don't know about the other realtors here, but Jordan was great! My roommates and I were in a bit of a pinch, and he didn't bullshit us and even scraped the top off the broker's fee. Everything went off without a hitch.

Definitely the best deal you'll find in Brooklyn, if not the entire city. It's a small theater, but it's very well-maintained, and regular-bargain tickets are only $10. Their opening credits are also amazing -- I'd have never remembered to turn off my pager without them.

I came here after a botched job at another salon, to have my newly-orange roots bleached white-blond. I'd read a lot of Yelp reviews hailing Anthony as the end-all, be-all of colorists, so I walked in for a consultation. When I explained what happened at the other salon (see my other reviews), he was completely outraged and told me could fix me right up.

I went in the next day and he got to work. It took longer than usual, because the bleach had to break through the dye the stylist from the other salon had used, but in the end, my hair looked exactly the way I wanted. The roots and rest of my hair match perfectly -- I'll definitely be going back to Anthony when it's time for a touch-up!

Update - 6/12/2011
After seeing my review, I got a call from who I'm assuming is a manager, offering to have me come in and have my hair fixed, free of charge, as well as receive a complementary conditioning treatment. While I do appreciate that they took the initiative to contact me first, I explained that I just didn't feel comfortable going back there, that I just wanted a refund for the dye job (esp. since I did pay for a double process and only got a single) and would be going elsewhere to have my hair fixed. The woman was clearly reluctant to do the refund and preferred that I come in and have them redo my hair, and in the end told me that if I wasn't happy with the other salon's work to go back to Davida so she herself could fix it.

I'm personally not forgiving when it comes to salons -- if they can't do it right the first time I have no reason to believe they will the second time -- so there was no way I was going back there. I'm still peeved and baffled that they wouldn't offer me even a partial refund, since they would have been spending money to fix and do a conditioning treatment on my hair anyway. I don't know about their other services, but if you want to go lighter -- especially if you want to go white-blond from dark brown -- don't bother with this place. I had had my hair bleached back in April, and after finding a Lifebooker coupon for a double process at this place, stopped by for a consultation and explained what I wanted to see if I could use the coupon, which I was told I could. The rest of the hair had a tinge of yellow, which I wanted gone, and when I told this to the stylist, Vera, I figured she understood that I meant I wanted to lighten the part that had already been bleached and to do the roots to match, because that's how sane people think, and she seemed rational enough.

What I ended up with is the white-blond I wanted -- with ORANGE roots. She used regular single process dye on my hair, saying she doesn't like to use bleach because it's too damaging. She told me she wasn't going to use bleach from the beginning, which should have been a huge red flag, but based on the color swatch she showed me, I foolishly assumed she just had some weird but effective method.

Once she was done and blowdrying my hair, she kept going on about how much healthier the roots looked than the rest of it, and at one point went so far as to say bleached hair is "too '80s." Completely unnecessary and rude.

She told me I could come back in in two months so we could cut off more of the white-blond and dye the roots her version of blond again. The fact that she thought it would be okay for anyone to walk around with orange hair sandwiched between dark brown and white-blond hair is unbelievable. I don't know how she does dying light hair darker, but if it's anything like her lightening skills, she should stick to cutting. She trimmed my hair and the cut looks perfectly fine, but I'm asking for a refund on the color, and going elsewhere to have it fixed.

Loved it here! It was inexpensive and had a great crowd going (it wasn't super crowded, despite being a Saturday). Definitely plan on going here again.

They're generally a little pricier than I like, but their specials are great, especially for weekend brunch. If you get the King's Ransom just make sure you specify whether you want the cinnamon raisin bread or plain, or they might just give you cinnamon raisin :(
