This review is based on my Sunday brunch experience only (I intend to come back for happy hour and tapas)
This place is cute, but hella confusing. There were 3-4 groups after me and they all looked as lost as I felt. The servers were running around, but never once addressed any of to say "it should be ___ minutes until a table opens up" or "would you like a coffee while you wait?"
After a while we discovered on our own that there is the cafe side where you can order from the bar the same menu as the main area and then take a number and seat yourself, but only in the "cafe area" (the tables by the window on Culver) which is not obviously separated from the "main dining area" (the tables by the windows on Duquesne) Ugh... as it turned out the owner realized there were a lot of people waiting and sat us on the cafe side, allowing us to be served by the server instead of by the cafe bar girls (confused yet, because I am!!!)
We ordered drinks and after all the waiting knew exactly what we wanted to eat. Our drinks were fast, but came in paper cups. I saw most people drinking from glass and a few drinking from paper. Confused again.
Our food came quickly. My husband and I shared the mushroom and swiss scramble (which came to us in omelet form...not that big of a deal but still made me unhappy). It was good, but a little bland. We also got the side of roasted potatoes for an extra $2. They weren't worth that much. We also shared the berry and whip creme crepe. It was good, but again, it lacked a certain intenseness of flavor. That is to say that it was a bit bland.
Overall I was not extremely satisfied with my brunch, which tends to be the case anytime I decided to do a brunch in Culver City. I think CC is more of a dinner and happy hour kind of town and we need to go to SM or the Hills for a decent brunch.
I will be back for happy hour, and soon! It's 4-7, 7 days a week and $3 items. Hopefully I will be able to give a good review after I sample that!
"is there meat in this?"
