Gameworks

Categories: Arcades, American (Traditional)
Neighborhood: Downtown

3 star rating
 2/9/2010
Went to the NW Flower & Garden Show by myself. Then decided to have lunch. The place (Gameworks aka World Sports Grille) was practically in my face. So I went.... They had some good deals going on the arcade, however, I didn't feel that comfortable alone to go nuts on a bunch of video games.

And still, Gameworks has great ambiance to get drunk and let loose. But it was too early in the day. So I made a note about when to return for those happy hour specials.

Anyhow, the menu is geared completely for the sports crowd with a couple vegetarian items. I decided on the Artichoke-Spinach Dip and Strawberry-Lemonade.

The dip looked clumpy and mega-leafy green without an actual cream sauce. They also forgot to chop the artichoke. It was like a mound of spinach with one baby artichoke heart in the middle and some melted parmesan sprinkled with diced red onions and olives. It looked messy. And they didn't serve a lot of the al fresco dip, but it was surrounded by like a million miles of tortilla chips.

My lemonade was a special order and I got a free refill. Needed it to get through noshing on those dipped chips. Left the place pretty content.

Costas Opa Greek Restaurant

Took a friend to lunch. The place I chose is closed on Sundays. So he chose Costas Opa Greek in Fremont, WA. I wasn't sure what to expect. But was happy when the staff ended up being super-friendly. And the restaurant is spacious with booths, tables, and seating on the second floor. The menu was graced with more than just Greek food too.

We ordered some coffee, mojitos, Avogolemono (soup), Fasolada (soup), shared a plate of Pikilia (cooked salad platter) and slice of strawberry cheesecake. The refreshment order of mojitos lacked rum. But the rest of the order was very good homestyle cooking. Everything was fresh made and healthy too.

It was a wonderful brunch/lunch. I'd love to go back, especially for a belly-dancing show. Sounds fun!

Golden Gardens Park

The afternoon skies were gloomy, but the companionship was comfortable. And the overall setting of Golden Gardens Park was still kinda romantic. Docked boats, canoes/kyacks waddling alongside the ducks, drab sand, joggers, lots of naked trees, people with pets, some friends fishing and strolling couples on a breezy day. The place is spacious enough to accommodate many recreational activities simultaneously. The parking lot is ample. And they got a mom & pop joint in the vicinity for those impulsive ice cream cravings.

Seattle Aquarium

The Seattle Aquarium is a great place for a date. It was a bonding experience. I'm no aquarium expert, but this place is really pretty cool. Saw a couple shows. Enjoyed ocean life housed in various tanks. Got amazed over rare native birds. Wondered about the Puffin fuss. And visited the cafe.

The people that work here all seem to be marine biologist, oceanographers or aquarium experts. They were all super knowledgeable. I'm sure they are dedicated to those unpredictable sea creatures, which are all so well-contained. And I learned a couple of useless but interesting facts. Enjoyed every nook in place too.

Gaslamp Tavern

Gaslamp Tavern is like a college hangout hole-in-the-wall, except they're next to the mall. Comfortable ambiance that's awesome for drinking. Our drink order was completely wrong. An obnoxious mistake - I'm sure. But another staff member was quite attentive to our needs. The appetizers platter is nothing to brag about, but we munched away, and enjoyed the night.

Barnes & Nobles is not just a bookstore. They have a cafe. It can be great place to study. A way to alleviate boredom. And one of the best places to get more acquainted with a friend, family member or date. It's not a library. Talk as stentorian as you wish!

Super China Buffet

Categories: Chinese, Buffets

5 star rating

My date pulls up to a well-lite wooden house inside a mini-mall off of Westminister Way North in Shoreline. I'm not sure what to expect. But I'm told it's a Chinese Buffet. Inside was a surreal mix of Chinese and American kitsch restaurant decor.

A majority of the buffet was meat-based dishes. The rest included sushi, dessert, soup, salad and pick-your-stir-fry. We could eat as much as we want and take seconds, thirds, maybe even fourths. i enjoyed my veggie-noodle stir-fry and lychee the most. But make no mistake, this place is about quantity over quality. Whatcha got there?

Okay, we sat near a fresh supply of fortune cookies. Cracking them suckers all open was the most fun I've had in a long time. Experimenting with dinner apparently went on forever, because the waiter rolled his eyes at us. But the time passed so quickly. What an experience?!

El Puerto

Category: Mexican

3 star rating
 2/4/2010
El Puerto is a spacious and clean Mexican Restaurant. The normal is pretty typical with a few specialty dishes, such as Pollo Mole and Chiles Rellenos. Courteous service that's pretty speedy with more than the water, nachos & salsa too. They have specials on the Margaritas for dinner and sell beer.

Our table decided to order Dos Equis XX with lime and fajitas. It came with the works, (refried beans, cheese, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and tortillas). Fresh made food, however, it lacked something in the flavor department. It was still a healthy option. And we were hungry. So we ate and enjoyed the food and ambiance as much as possible.

Grocery Outlet

Today, I went to Grocery Outlet in Lynnwood, WA. It's basically off-price shopping for groceries. They carry limited selections of name brands foods, fruits, vegetables, juices, milks, laundry stuff, cleaning and kitchen products. And there's a bit of chaos of going on throughout the store. But the savings versus a regular supermarket can be ridiculously awesome. I love Grocery Outlet!

Muckleshoot Indian Casino

Category: Casinos

5 star rating
 2/2/2010
My friend wanted to take a walk on the waterway and talk. When he got to my home, it was cold outside. So we took a drive and talk. The drive got longer and longer. We drove all the way to Muckleshoot Indian Casino. I guess we're on a date now!

The place stands alone with lots of neon lights. There were no expectations. We entered. The place had every thing and more inside like a mini-Atlantic City. Lots of slots. Some poker, bingo, lottery, food, gift shops, bathrooms and more....

This was definitely quality date time, probably recommended by Cosmopolitan Magazine or something. So Monday evening was far from boring. I was scared at first and in wonderment the rest of the time. But we played a little here and there together. It was a very fun-loving experience.
