Bob Jr's Towing

Category: Towing

5.0 star rating

I can't believe I'm giving a towing place a 5 star review! :) Let me explain. Today I collected a friend's VW Westfalia van that had been in storage here. It was out of gas... and oil... and the battery was dead... and it was a Sunday. Steve was really accommodating, making himself available at the weekend, topping up the oil and charging the battery for free, and his son even drove me to the gas station to get gas. And when I tried to pay extra for all the help, they turned it down.

Running any business is hard work. Running a towing business must be one of the toughest. So I have a lot of respect for a team that can pull that off, and even leave people so positive they write great reviews.

James Wavro found me a place to rent in San Francisco in Jan 2009. In the subsequent 2 years his associates have found homes for several of the employees of my company too. I work with them mostly for the range of high quality SF rentals. Somehow they consistently get the best places (across a range of budgets). We have also found the associates to consistently be responsive, professional and likable. This is a really hard industry to build a business and with high emotions to manage in all stakeholders, so I respect the standards they are able to maintain for us. I've placed 20-30 people in the Bay Area and I haven't found another group with such style and professionalism.

Mieze Steinberg, CMT

The best-kept secret in San Francisco? Probably. Well sorry folks, but I'm about to ruin the secret :) ...

I'm proud to be the first to review Mieze, as I've been a client for 2 years, and with great results. Finally, Mieze has a new space for herself in North Beach (Montgomery at Greenwich), branching out as an independent CMT, having worked at top spas in San Francisco, including International Orange and The Four Seasons.

Quite simply, Mieze is one of the most professional and knowledgeable massage therapists working in San Francisco today. You may find your experience and results to be in another league from prior massage therapists you worked with. Seriously. Mieze offers a tailored combination of Swedish massage, sports massage, Reiki, Myofascial release, and craniosacral therapy, and is trained to teach in many of these areas.

However, I would advise that it is a particular type of client that will suit Mieze's approach. First, if you're looking for a spa experience with steam room etc, move on - this is all about the quality of massage. Second, if you're passing through town or looking for a one-off gift voucher for a special someone, there will be too much effort to book Mieze to bother (try International Orange instead, who offer good deals on gift vouchers, and is a great spot - see my review). Third, you'll get best results if you have some prior experience with yoga.

Also be warned that Mieze usually only accepts new clients on a referral basis, is often fully booked, and doesn't have an assistant to return your call. (I've had friends who called her and couldn't get in because they didn't mention me.) So don't be disappointed if you randomly call her and can't get an appointment.

The food is consistently good and the menu contains classics of Turkish and Greek cuisine, together with entrees to suit any palette. Always ask to hear their specials too, which are thoughtfully designed - my favorite so far being the risotto, which I'm making a campaign to bring into the permanent menu :)

Love the Pera Talas Boregi - phyllo dough stuffed with chicken, vegetables, coconut curry sauce, apple and currants.

Excellent Mediterranean restaurant, run by some really top-notch people. I'm a big fan.

Wow, that's harsh Trisha! I like these people. If you need to grab flowers in the FiDi there are a number of stands, but this little place does the job as good as any.

Huh, what are you guys talking about? Looks like the Metreon cinema is one of those places in SF it's cool to dislike. So it's a big corporate cinema without a great deal of personality. But it does that well. And hey if you're seeking an engaging local experience in a plush environment, why are you watching a movie? Comfortable seats, good availability, efficient ticket purchasing, and it's right here downtown at Mission and 4th. After an evening showing, pause to take in a view of the downtown skyline with illuminated SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Gallery in the foreground. If you want to watch a mainstream movie this seems as good a place as any. And as for the comments about only showing run-of-the-mill movies, I caught Howl's Moving Castle and Ong-Bak here.

Look out for this new hotspot opening Summer 06, promising 22,000 ft of dancing and dining. I also heard they're building a private residence attached to the club for guests. SF awaits.
