The Fruit Bowl

After arriving in St. Thomas I wasn't quite sure what I'd find in the way of fresh fruits and vegetables outside of local market stands.  It's a shame to not buy fresh fish and fruits from local vendors while here, but it's also nice to have the comfort of finding my favorite organic items when in the mood.  I had given up finding such things as Ginger-Os (seriously they're an addiction), bulk items such as nuts and granola, and yummy spices and teas.  I was pleasantly surprised not only by the variety and selection of foods but by the prices as well.  I was expecting to have to pay some exorbitant prices considering so many grocery items are more expensive here than they are stateside but many items (thought not all) were only slightly above what I'm used to paying for them at home.  My only complaint?  No Yerba Mate to speak of, but otherwise a really great place.

We're in Grenada for a full two weeks and traveling with three (yes-three) pit bull puppies.  Finding a pet friendly hotel is not always easy and cost-effective and will then sometimes lack on the amenities.  Additionally being away from home and a large city (in my case) can also be pretty trying.

We've felt very much at home here and the staff as been thoughtful and friendly.  The suite we stayed in was very well priced, clean, and comfortable.  Everyone loves puppies, but everyone was very friendly and spent alot of time petting and playing with them.  The complimentary continental breakfast was very good and had a great selection and all of the good restaurants are within a short drive.  If I ever visit Grenada again, this will definitely be the place I stay.

I'm not a meat eater...but I was told that was this was the best place in town for a steak.  Knowing my sweetie would love a good one we decided to go for dinner.  Sometimes steak houses don't pay as much attention to non-beef eaters so I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, especially in a small town like this one.  But the food was spectacular!  I had the Shrimp dinner with three skewers full of shrimp.  The 14 oz. ribeye was huge and cooked perfectly to his liking.  The ambiance was very quaint with small rooms for privacy.  If you're into lots of veggies then you might not dig this place, but it's definitely worth a try if you can live with a simple salad bar.

I've eaten here twice and I don't like just any Chinese food.  I've had the Shrimp with Hot Garlic Sauce and my sweetie had the General Tso's Chicken and Chicken with Black Bean Sauce.  The owners were very nice and made our meal to order.  We added good veggies and steamed rice.  Very good food overall.

Very good Mexican food.  Great price and great taste.  We enjoyed the Chicken Chimichanga Taco, & Chicken Quesadilla.  With the abundance of fast food and Southern cuisine in the area, this is a nice break from the norm.  I'd love to try their Margueritas and their nachos...but definitely a great experience overall.

I tend to like to try local stores and restaurants whenever I'm traveling, but sometimes the convenience of something familiar is a welcome site.  Since, we're traveling with three puppies...this didn't seem quite the time to experiment.  But PetKrazy exceeded all my dreams and expectations.  I wasn't expecting to be able to find the special food we feed the doggies, but Tina carried everything we needed and was quickly willing to order anything they didn't carry.  We've been back a couple of times during our two week stay for shampoo and bully sticks and to visit with the cute lab puppies at the front of the store.  A great little pet store with a big, big bite.

There are only a few restaurants in Grenada, MS and this one came highly recommended by many locals.  Near the Grenada Lake...the food was tasty and well worth the visit.  Everyone is very friendly here and anxious to share their favorite places.  We experienced Shrimp Po'Boys, Crab Legs, and Chicken Wings and topped it off with the house favorite Caramel Cake.  The decor is home grown and you can get a real feel of the local flavor.  We'll definitely return before our trip home.

Your Dekalb Farmers Market

Dekalb Farmer's Market makes you want to love food.  You want to cook for yourself, for your family, your friends, your neighbors...anyone just to have an excuse.  Its full of exotic goods that sometimes you can barely pronounce but just have to try.  My boyfriend and I love cooking and we love eating well and we can accomplish both here for a lot less money than at a regular supermarket.  The staff is always very helpful and will always point you in the right direction.  I will agree with others who have noted that it tends to be pretty cold in here so make sure you bring a jacket.  Being a freelancer allows me to go during the week when the market is not as hectic.  Make sure you take a list so that you don't get too distracted.

This is my third time here and as always its a great place to lounge, smoke, and enjoy friends.  There's always something new to try and I enjoy feeling like a cigar aficionado.  The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable and had great recommendations for both smokes and drinks.  This last time however I did feel a bit nauseous with all of the smoke and the waitress noticed right away ( I thought I was playing it off pretty well) and brought me a coke to help.  My friends said a better air filter would help out with all of the second hand smoke and I seem to remember some other places that pull the smoke out of the air.  However, none of this will deter me from coming back and with friends.  I always enjoy my experience here.

This is a cute little cafe located in Grant Park that really surprised me.  I stopped by to hang out with my friend..the August Miller of August Miller designs and was lucky enough to be there on a $5 mohito night.  Oh man, oh man was it good.  for dinner I had the blackened tilapia sandwich and the solstice salad.  My only complaint was that I finished it way too quickly, but the the food was priced very well and I will definitely be back with friends.  I can't wait for the spring to sit on the patio, relax, and enjoy.  The mangaer was also very friendly and the staff took great care of all of us.
