The staff looked mostly like highschool kids working an after school job, but they were friendly and did a good job. I'd probably stop back in here if I am ever staying in Lewiston again, which is probably not super likely.

Rooster's Breakfast Club

Lets get real. The inside, a little ghetto-looking, but not dirty or anything, and while the waitstaff seems to be pretty much ever-changing, the food is really good. I like to get a chicken gyro or the bbq sandwich. Yea, it's a breakfast joint, but the lunch isn't half bad, and the prices are pretty easy on the pocketbook for how much you get. It's usually served pretty quickly and comes out hot and plentiful.
Phinney Ridge needs a few more good little places like this. Hopefully this building sticks around and doesn't get replaced by condos like the contractor is trying to do, because I'd really miss Rooster's!
Let me lay this out really clearly for you: I'm healthy, almost too healthy. I've only even broken one bone in my entire life, and it was a toe. I don't get injured, I don't get sick. I've not spent much time in doctor's offices, and moreover, I've not spent very much time in hospitals; almost none...
I'm 27. I'm healthy. My stress level is low. I'm active. I eat a pretty healthy, relatively low-fat, balanced diet, so when I am sitting at my desk on a Monday afternoon and left side of my chest starts to hurt, I don't really think that much of it until about 45 minutes later when I am driving home and my left arm goes sort of tingly, two of my fingers go completely numb, and my breathing becomes labored. so I call my mom, who works in healthcare and insists I call an ambulance, I could have an embolism, you know? I refuse, but insist that when I get home I will go to an urgent care clinic.
So I tote myself to an urgent care clinic and two hours later they have done an ekg, but due to a lack of resources can not safely tell me that I can come home and go to sleep and not die overnight, so they tell me to go to the ER.
So... I head to Stevens. Because of my normal ekg at the urgent care clinic I have to wait a bit, and I am finally taken back by Jason who does my intake, asks me an assortment of questions about what is going on, and is really clear and upfront with me about what I should expect from my visit to the ER, he also praises me for not ignoring my symptoms even given my age and clean health history, which is reassuring to me somehow.
Over the next few hours I am subjected to a variety of tests; blood, another ekg, a chest x-ray, the works. My care is overseen by the fantastic Dr. Brian Klokeid who sees me as soon as I am changed into my hospital gown and quickly becomes the second person to assure me that I am not insane for coming to the ER with chest pains at the young age of 27, and that there isn't an ER doctor in the country who would not run the tests he was planning on doing.
Every single staff member I came in contact with at Stevens was friendly, caring and comforting and discreet; from the two nurses who cared for me, to the tech who did my ekg and my x-rays. Even the woman on the housekeeping staff who came into my room to take out the dirty linens took a moment to ask me if I needed anything and offered me a warmed-up blanket when she thought I looked cold. Dr. Klokeid was apologetic that my time there was rather lengthy, and when, at an immediate emergency-level, nothing could be found wrong with my heart, he offered me some alterative ideas to what could be wrong, and insisted I follow-up with my regular doctor. I felt assured that I could go home and go to sleep and not worry about not waking up the next morning.
Although I was in what was a scary, and uncomfortable situation and was at the hospital alone, the staff did such a good job keeping me up to date on what was going on and just generally being caring that I wasn't uncomfortable or scared there by myself at all. I was absolutely use Stevens if I ever have to go to the ER again and not just because it is so close to my home, but because they really cared about making sure I was truly okay before sending me home.

Wrong. This one... well lets just say I hope I caught it on an off night! My roommate had toted that we had a DQ close to the house, it's a few miles away, so after class tonight I head to DQ because I was just dying for a cheap burger and fries.
Things basically go wrong right from the start: there's one car in front of me, but I waited in the drive-up for a good 5-7 minutes. Doesn't that seem like a long ass time to you? Me too. So I get up there, I ordered a regular fry and a regular cheeseburger.
My fries were lukewarm and tasted like they were a few hours old, I didn't even finish them, and I love me some french fries. The burger wasn't much better; too much mustard, it was oozing out the sides, and the bun was still, like it had been stuck under a heating lamp for too long. It was completely lackluster and a real letdown. I suppose I will give this DQ another try, but at the moment I'm pretty much turned off.
To top it off the girl running the drive-up was basically wearing her street clothes, which, even in a fastfood setting is pretty unprofessional.

Sloop Tavern
Categories: Pubs, Dive Bars, American (Traditional)
Neighborhood: Ballard
I love the Sloop and it's sort of oddish charm. Seemingly random bar decorations, the sweet, and helpful staff, and the strange banter you can have with other bar patrons. Going to the Sloop is cheaper and more entertaining than most movies I've been to in the last year. Plus, beer is delicious.
Food's not to shabby here, and beers and munchies are of a pretty fair price.
I only wish it weren't so far off the beaten path from the other bars in the area so it was a more readily available stop on any impromptu pubcrawl.
Ranch Market has everything you could ever need for Asian cooking and at, literally, unbeatable prices. It's so cheap. The fish selection is AMAZING and they have an entire aisle devoted to just fish balls. The produce is incredibly cheap, and I got a green bell pepper there once that was the size of my entire head. although i don't know what half that stuff is in the store (I grew up in a small town and haven't tried a lot of Asian food!) I do know they have things you just can't find anywhere else in the area, like bitter melon. Yea, if might be terribly bitter, but the Okinawans eat it like it's candy and they have notoriously long lives. Coincidence? Me thinks not!
Anyway, there are a few staple items I can get here like rice, milk, fruits and veggies and it's usually half what I'd pay at the regular grocery store. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who knows how to get their cook on and loves Asian cooking because they will definitely have everything you need.
I guess Thriftway serves it's purpose for the locals though. I try to avoid going here though when I am in town. If I lived in Estacada I don't think I could afford to shop here on a regular basis. Even my 85 year old Grandma will drive out of town to get her groceries.

I thought it took a bit long to get our drinks. It seemed like the girl taking orders could've jumped into the bar and helped the guy making drinks, but she just stood there and chatted with him.
I'd go five stars for the coffee. One of the top two best iced vanilla lattes I've ever had. Flavorful, rich and oh so smooth. but I've got to knock off one of the wait and the employee chit-chat. Still, if you need a great quality drink before or after a football/baseball/soccer game then this is probably a great place to do it. A good quality four star joint.

The rooms are clean and relatively roomy, though moderately furnished. It's sort of cool to have a room in the pyramid with the tinted glass wall, but be sure to request a room in the pyramid or you may get a room in a tower. Staff tends to be hit or miss here too. But for the cleanliness, location and overall cost, it tends to be one of the places I flock to when I need a place to stay in Vegas without breaking the bank. A Solid 4 stars.
