i have spent many, many hours at christy's.  most of them fairly inebriated (yeah, i got kicked out once during a pub crawl).  it is just a great place to hang out and enjoy friends and the evening air.  the food is somewhat spotty on the bar side.  sometimes the soft pretzel is not so soft, if you know what i mean.  i have never eaten at lenhardt's.

christy herself is great and a big supporter of uc.  we have a couple of events for the college of pharmacy there every year, and she is always accommodating and wonderful.

we go to abby's a lot.  there is a variety of sandwiches, casual atmosphere, sports on the tv for my husband, and it's in close proximity to the movie theater.  the owners are very nice and down-to-earth.  the sandwiches are named for westside high school mascots, a concept i (sadly) never tire of.  we usually sit on the porch or patio and have margaritas and beer.  the jalapeno and cheese stuffed pretzel is a great start to the meal.  every sandwich, salad, or dinner i have had there is simple and satisfying.  my favorites include the taco salad, blt, and veggie burger.

i was not sure what to expect, as i have never had indonesian before.  we hypothesized in the car as we were navigating northside (aka unable to find the restaurant and driving around in circles) that it might be like thai or maybe chinese with a french twist.  however, it was not anything like that.  it was really delicious, and a combination of flavors i had not experienced before.
to start with the cocktails, i had a pimm's cup.  it was cool and refreshing, not too sweet.  i have never had a cocktail with a cucumber in it.  for dinner, there are different sauces and then you chose the meat.  i had shrimp in a sauce called adhun, described as 'grandma's recipe'.  it also seems that the side dishes differ based on the sauce chosen, because we did not all have the same sides.  there are also other entrees, such as a beef-oriented dish called rendang.  the rice came in a banana leaf teepee.  for dessert, i had a ginger cake (which was pretty big- probably better for two.  or i was just stuffed from dinner), but the real star was the kahlua cake a few people in our party chose.
the restaurant has a great atmosphere and a fantastic outdoor patio.  i will definitely be back to enjoy some drinks on a summer evening.
the other location of the restaurant is in indonesia.  our server told us the name translates literally as 'elephant man'.  somehow i feel something is lost in the translation.
my only caveat is, it was more expensive than we expected.  but it was worth it.

home cooking.  food is decent, service friendly, prices are great.  i had meatloaf (which unfortunately had green peppers in it, which i hate), mashed potatoes, corn, roll and rainbow sherbet for dessert (yum), all for $8.50.  they have daily specials and desserts.  would be a good place to take my grandparents.

henke is a stone's throw from my house, which is good, because i can drink a lot of wine given the opportunity.  their wines are good and good for sharing, and they can re-cork if you don't finish so you can take it home (or so i've heard).  they use locally produced grapes in some of their wines.  if you go on a weekday or they are not too busy on the weekend, you can do a tasting, which is 7 wines for $5.  a very good deal.  their food is consistently delicious.  two notable appetizers are the "awesome" pan seared cheese with blueberry glaze and the "best garlic bread ever".  both are demonstrations of truth in advertising.  the staff is friendly, even to people they don't see once a week.  the only thing that prevents the fifth star is that their food, while tasty, is not very creative or adventurous.  they do have specials, but i'm never wowed by a unique entree.  i just drink more wine and forget about it.

my husband and i walked to taber bakery sunday morning.  they were much smaller than i anticipated, and some of the danish in the case were (surprisingly) burned.  i had a glazed cake which was spongier than what i like, but i did sample some pretty good white chocolate pound cake.  the real star was the fresh baked white bread.  i eagerly await trying their other breads, which are available on a daily schedule.

i am consistently pleased with arthur's food and service.  it's a fun place to hang out, have some drinks, catch up with friends.   the patio is wonderful for a summer evening, and  their spinach and artichoke dip can't be beat.

the only negative is everyone enjoys arthur's.  sometimes the wait can be long - i've been quoted as long as 2 hours.
