Purple Yam is a cozy spot in Ditmas Park, about a 30 minute subway ride from lower Manhattan. They have some classic Filipino dishes like Adobo, Kare Kare, and Pancit. But they also serve up some Korean dishes like Kimchi and Korean Meatballs. They do have San Miguel beer and an alcoholic Calamansi drink.
The service is good, but we were a bit rowdy. If you do go with a group, try the family style route so that everyone can try something.
I would say that at Purple Yam, you'll definitely get your moneys worth. And be sure to say hi to Romeo, one of the owners.

Hill Country

Hill Country reminds me of the Billyburg BBQ spot, but on a scale that's about 100x bigger! The set up at HC is the same as FS, you go up to a counter and order how much meat by the pound you want. Then there's another counter where you order sides. Although HC doesn't have the massive amount of whiskey, rye that FS has, HC does offer Lone Star beer (yes, I know it's not on the same par, but it's nice to know a place that sells Texas beer, not that I'm from Texas or anything).
Be careful in how much food to order, the price can really add up. Better to go as a group.
Also, there's a downstairs area where bands perform. I didn't see one the night that I went this week, but perhaps next time.
So in closing, go to HC if you like BBQ. You won't be disappointed.

Tu Casa is a good spot, the people are friendly, the service is relatively fast, and the food definitely hits the spot.
I ordered the carne guisado (beef stew) with tostones. Dee-lish! So good that after I finished dinner (I ordered take out) I subsequently went to bed 15 minutes later or so.
Oh, and if you try the tostones, they give you two kinds of sauce, garlic and this tangy green sauce. I don't know what they put in the green sauce, but it's got that something!

The restaurant has other items than steak.
Definitely try the avocado fries, you will not disappointed, promise.
Service is great, seems like every staffer will stop by your table and ask if everything is ok.
My only knocks with the place are that there is only one bathroom, and it's a cash only spot, but they do have an ATM.

Went here last night and we sat in the backyard, which had a very chill feeling. For drinks I got the Bare foot, which is overproofed rum and coconut juice. Apps, we got the cheese and fruit platter and jerk chicken wings. For dinner, I got the grilled salmon, which was good but too many little pieces of veggies. I know, veggies are good for you, but the appearance made it look really busy.
I enjoyed our dining experience last night and would go back.

The sushi is like butter and so good. The staff is very friendly and the service is on point. It's a BYOB place and cash only so remember that.

How often do you find a bar that has a flower shop setup? This might be the only one in the city, if not the country that has this arrangement (no pun intended).
The vibe is very chill and the prices are definitely reasonable. Their whiskey selection I would say is probably on par with the one you'll find at Fette Sau in Wiliamsburg.
There is a backyard and it's pretty decent sized.
There's also a basement where live bands perform, how cool is that?!
I highly recommend Sycamore, you won't be disappointed!
