I had an early dinner here - around 6:30 - and it was fairly quiet.  But by 7:30 the place was busy.  The waiter was friendly and didn't rush us.

I had the Cappellacci, which was a delicious butternut squash pasta dish with sage.

Around mid to late November each year, Birdbath offers slices of their pumpkin pie.  I must say, it's the best I've ever had.  Can't recommend it enough.

Dr. Schaubhunt was very gentle and thorough with my new kitten.  After the diagnosis, he provided me with ample information.  I walked out feeling satisfied that my cat is in good hands with this vet.

The brunch menu at Hundred Acres is wonderful for vegetarians - so many options!  Their creamy biscuits are the best I've ever had.

The staff is attentive and the atmosphere is relaxed and cozy.

A great place to take out-of-town guests.

So happy to have the "Zen Palate" chef/menu back in the wonderful restaurant "Dang Lai Palace".  The Curry Supreme is my default option, but the Eggplant with Tofu in black bean sauce is quite exceptional, too.  Actually, I don't think there's a dish on the menu that I don't love.

Bonus: they deliver!

New Balance Ny - CLOSED

New Balance is one of the few sneaker companies to offer non-leather, "made in America", high quality sneakers.  Because of this, I have been a New Balance customer for more than 10 years.

Today's customer service at the New Balance store on 42nd has ended my relationship with the company.  I walked in and asked a salesperson if I could see a pair of non-leather sneakers.  She showed me a pair and said "no leather.  Fabric only."  I replied that it felt like leather, but she insisted it wasn't.

So I started looking it up on my iPhone when another salesperson asked me if I needed assistance.  I told her the above and she said "It's not leather, it's suede."  I responded that it's still made from the hide of an animal and I'm vegetarian.  She LAUGHED AT ME!

I was furious and told her that it was no laughing matter.  She told me to speak to the manager who couldn't have cared less.  I will be writing to New Balance to complain about this store's customer service.

Update - 5/12/2009
On my last visit, there was a roach crawling up the wall. I realize there are probably roaches in every restaurant, but seeing it table side didn't do much for my appetite.

A vegetarian at a tapas restaurant?  It can be done!

Lovely atmosphere and staff; even the owner came over to talk with us.  I had the following items from the menu:

    Pitcher of Sangria
    Potato omelet with mushrooms
Three cheeses (two sheep; one cow) with crostini and apple slices
    Grilled mushrooms
    Grilled asparagus with goat cheese

Every plate was wonderful, as was the sangria.  My favorites were probably the potato omelet and the cheese plate.  This is a great place to go with a small group of friends.

Today's specials were blueberry, pumpkin, and banana.  Of course, we had one of each!  I thought my favorite would be pumpkin (it always is), but this time around I fell in love with the blueberry.  With white cake and blueberry frosting, it was the moistest of the three with a not-too-sweet frosting.  Just a few short blocks away from my apartment, Butter Lane is going to be a dangerous place for me.  I can't wait to try more flavors.

I was impressed that all the burgers could be made with a veggie patty, which wasn't microwaved!  Mine came with cheddar cheese and a side of fries (skip the fries, they were room temperature and bland).  Friendly, helpful staff.

Wow, this place gets packed - FAST!  The food is always wonderful - comfort food that's healthy like their conbread with miso spread.  I usually start with hummus and pita bread.  Last night I had soba noodles with tofu and velvety soba sauce.  I was so impressed with the sauce.  Then again, I'm always impressed with this place.
