I would love to try this place again when I am not recovering from a nasty cold.

The fish was fresh, rolls were reasonably priced. Their appetizers definitely caught my eye more than the rolls. The rainbow tartare was delicious, fresh and spot on.

Their specials were also extremely fun. Fun? A range of various, seasonal fishes - and all available in individual pieces as well as sets. I finally tried the much lauded geoduck - which i did enjoy. The fact that I could try a singular piece was especially attractive to me and gets an extra smile :)

Their specialty rolls would have been over the top good save one fact: their sauces are much too sweet for my tastes - and I don't know how it happened but we ended up with 3 very cloyingly sweet sauces.

Ambiance was fun... I had seen previous reviews that noted it was loud. I'm glad I was prepared for this. It is not an intimate dining experience by any means.

Sake cocktails were tasty and well crafted. Again, I had to be careful not to order any that sounded overly sweet but would (at least in my cocktail tastebud) stay on the drier side of life.

I'm open to trying this place again with clearer nasal passages and the lack of tissues in hand and actually look forward to it.

i am fatter and happier for having met this establishment.

What happens when you put 3 Southerners at a table and one soul food virgin? ...Menu glee and zeal... To ensure our soul food virgin had tried everything properly, we needed a bit of everything... and a strategy to accomplish this...

Appetizers started with the ever-so-perfect fried green tomatoes... just as I had remembered them, hush puppies (who doesn't love a good hush puppy?!?! i'm not even going to mention the quizzical look on our Yankee's face... Can you really call a Canadian a Yankee though?!?! they are so beyond the realm of Yankee-dom... but i digress...), crawfish chowder (oh how i've missed my crawfish), and a spinach salad (for those who love bacon)

entrees included the crab cake entree, the gumbo, catfish and fried chicken and a side of macaroni and cheese. I can only speak for the crab cake entree, catfish and mac and cheese... all of which were divine. Do note, the catfish crab cake is incredibly bready, thick and extremely Deep South styled... but the Dixie Tartar was ever so tasty... The mac and cheese lives up to all its hype, moist, thick casserole style with additional cheese sauce smothered on top.

I do mock all the red pepper garnishes on top... that's so anti-South... but the color made for a pretty plate. From the rest of the table, the gumbo and fried chicken was divine. Especially the chicken. (Best fried chicken ever from most of the reviews I heard, oohing and awwing at the table)

It must have been the homesickness and the buzz from both the wine and the food, but we also ordered dessert. Hummingbird Cake with cream cheese frosting. It was spot on - with a giant ice cream scoop of homemade whipped cream and homemade butterscotch syrup. I will have dreams of that syrup henceforth.

There were many to-go boxes and each of our food babies are due very shortly.

It is a build your own burger place. A lovely lunch option since I currently work in the vicinity. Lots of variety for toppings, cheeses and sauces. The options are for angus beef burgers (of various sizes), turkey burgers or veggie/vegan burgers.

As a vegetarian, i had (surprise!) the veggie burger. A homemade patty chock full of beans and corn - was moist (a little bit crumbly) but incredibly edible. Better than most veggie burgers I have had in Seattle (Six Arms does have a wickedly good veggie burger made with hops though) The toppings were widespread and varied. Though veggie-wise I kept looking at the "premium" options (avocodos, guacamole, grilled mushrooms, bacon was also on this list) -

In the basic veggie section, you get up to 4 toppings for free (including your lettuce, tomatoes, jalepenos, corn salsa, fresh/homemade dill pickles, grilled onions), a cheese selection (with options such as goat cheese, gruyere, horseradish cheddar, tillamook cheddar, swiss, etc) , and 1 sauce selection (including garlic aioli, horseradish mayo, apricot sauce). I must admit my amusement and delight with both the cheese and sauce selection. It was tricky trying to find complementary sauces to the veggies I was choosing - but not for a lack of choices.

It is all pretty standard pub food fare. Fries (both regular and sweet potato), fried pickles, onion straws, etc... And it felt a little pricey - but the burgers (of all vairities) were HUGE. The sides/fries do not come with the meal... which i'm torn about if i love or hate. i was with a group of 5, so splitting one platter of 50/50 sweet potato fries/regular fries seemed about right - I always hate the over proportions of fries... But on the other hand, it would feel disappointing with a group of two. Too many fries for two - and yet no little side to nosh on with the burger. (And one platter of fries costs 4.95!)

I will come back. For the convenience and for the quality of the ingredients... And if you followed that whole review and the pleothera of ingredients I can remember, there's at least 3x more ON the menu...

I Love Wasabi - CLOSED

So across the street from this delightful sushi bar is my favorite sushi craving, Hana. But alas, as i pointed out in my last review, though Hana has the freshest fish by far and away and great value... They don't carry the more interesting rolls. It is all pretty standard fare.

I'm not cheating on Hana when I went to I Love Wasabi, this only fulfills my need for some variety. My overall assessment, the rolls were tasty, lots of roe (aka "bubble wrap for the mouth") and still reasonably priced. I shared a rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, paradise roll, and tempura fried eel roll (the name currently eludes me). All were tasty, flavorful and divine. Did I mention, the rainbow roll which essentially is a california roll with fish and avocado on top had real crab instead of imitation?!?! color me impressed.

Eating for 1? The bar is super charming and a roll and miso soup would easily fill you up. Or try one of their special meal combos... I kept flipping back and forth with great indecision as to which would fill my non-Hana needs.

I will be back. I won't crave you as often as Hana - but when I do bite into your tasty goodness, I will leave just as gratified.

Sunday morning brunch, a tradition of mine. This cafe was extremely and painfully family friendly. More so than non-familial friendly. showed up with my standard oh-so-adorable brunch date and waited 40 minutes until seated (the waitress told us 20 minutes) irritant #1

#2 watching screaming children groups, yuppie biking groups get seated ahead of us. Way ahead of us.

Food could have saved this place - and like a few of the reviews, it is consistently a couple dollars more expensive for all dishes compared to the rest of Seattle.

I had the Cafe Benedict (crab cakes with poached eggs served on an english muffin with a swiss-asiago cheese sauce) Crab was real and tasty - crab cakes were done perfectly. Not Maryland style but still, not too bready, flavorful and crumbly. Poached eggs were perfect. Unfortunately, the asiago-swiss cheese sauce was a bit too strong in its flavors and strangled the flavor of the quality crab cake.

The date had an omelet (great selection and was well made, however, 4 egg omelets are simply excessively gluttonous in my book) I like tasty, unhealthy food as much as the next person but i cannot finish a 3 egg omelet much less a 4... Alki Cafe, have you ever considered half portions?

I didn't even touch my potatoes as I had already eaten too much food and was left feeling miserably full the rest of the day. Generous portions, you will get your monies worth.. but for those of you not concerned about eating a super-sized meal, you can find equitable foods elsewhere in Seattle and much more reasonable portions and priced accordingly.

I'm a pescatarian (eat fish/seafood but no meat) I swear by their tofu sandwiches. Got a cold? Order this sandwich with the full five stars for a little extra heat. My stomach can't handle it on a regular basis.

I don't eat scallops (some weird allergic reaction to them) and the shrimp - quite frankly, doesn't put this sandwich over the top. Tofu absorbs the flavor of the sauce and enhances the flavor. Shrimp while tasty, didn't do anything for this sandwich. It just distracted me from trying to catch pieces of onion (those caramelized onions are crunchy, flavorful and amazing) and wiping up remaining sauce with shreds of bread and crisp romaine lettuce from my paper. Fresh bread from essential bakery make this sandwich divine.

Seating is at a premium and the whole shack is consistently too crowded. I suggest you plan on taking it to go. I often see sitting on sidewalks, loitering in the Fremont Laundromat to eat these divine sandwiches. Bring cash. They don't take card.

This speak-easy style bar is the most charming bar experience I have encountered since arriving to Seattle (it only took a year!) Happy hour included a sloe gin punch for $3! yes, I said that right $3!! Tasty and addictive. In addition, happy hour is 6-8 - convenient for those of us waiting for friends and loved ones to arrive back to Seattle from their respectable jobs on the east side (/sneers)

The rest of the cocktails are very 1920's based made well and strong, I want to break out a flapper dress and dance a jitterbug or Charleston but unfortunately this nook of a bar doesn't have the space for dancing, maybe on the bar? Feeling adventurous? Knee High Stocking Co also serves absinthe with facts and myths of this green fairie liquor.

I love this ambiance, I love the fact that walking up to the door, I had to double check to see if this really was a bar. The sign is a tiny sticky mail letters posted above a doorbell.

Ring the doorbell and enter into the rabbit hole. I will be back and will be excited to do so and maybe next time I will try the mac and cheese. It just sounded good. And according to the bar tender, it is as if Jesus Christ, Thor, Zeus and any other god we can think of got together and created this pasta dish.

great happy hour prices and times. i appreciate a reasonable happy hour that spans until 8 pm!

drinks made well, great selection of liquors. it was definitely dead during happy hour so i can't speak for the ambience indoors - it was just awkward but the deck out back was small enough that i just felt like i was kicking it, having a quiet conversation and general relaxing.

After several happy hour reviews (and one non-eating visit) i took the plunge and made this the meet up location with some friends for Happy Hour.

Happy Hour definitely makes this place worth it for the same reasons you've heard before: the much lauded decks and deep fried goodness! The cheese curds for $4 were ever-so-fabulous, followed by a fried cod po-boy. Now these aren't fully accurate New Orleanian po-boys but a decent imitation nonetheless (tartar sauce instead of mayo and definitely a little bit overpriced at $6)

I didn't indulge (as I don't eat meat other than fish/seafood) but the fried chicken did look moist, the portion generous - but be warned all you anti-heat individuals, this chicken has some kick!

The drinks were poured strong, with the Captain's Tea being a piece de resistance.

Other than fried cheese curds, I may not be craving Captain Blacks anytime soon, but will return for the great outdoor seating and cocktails!

The first time i walked in, i found the decor unassuming. Actually, until it had been verbally suggested to me, i walked by it more time than i can count.

the sushi menu isn't very elaborate - but its lack of elaborate choices is all but made up for in the freshest, most delectable sushi i have ever had. even something so basic such as the california roll is a delectable treat here.

the hana special is my go-to for an affordable, mouth watering filling meal (a california roll and 8 pieces of nigiri - 2 shrimp, 2 salmon, 2 yellowtail, 2 tuna for $12) but there isn't much you can go wrong with.

i crave this place on a regular basis.
