KC AutoGlass

Mark from KC Autoglass just saved me over $100.

After the passenger side quarter glass was busted out of my 11 year old Subaru, I called all over getting quotes for the repair. KC Autoglass was the only shop that took the time to shop around for the glass, finding the piece available from a reputable salvage dealer, saving us over $100 in parts costs. His installation price was also more reasonable than his competitor's, so if we had gone with new glass, the repair would still have been less expensive. And there was no skimping on service - like all the other mobile glass places, Mark arrived in a company van, repaired my car where it was parked, and cleaned up the mess.

I couldn't be more satisfied.

I thought I reviewed this place 2 years ago. If I had then, I would have given it 5 stars for my amazing food, great service, and handling an ugly situation with grace.

This restaurant is located within a 3-5 minute walk from my work. I have repeatedly called and walked over to try and have lunch and it has never, ever been open during those attempts despite the fact that I am calling in during posted business hours. Today I could see that the lights inside were not on. I understand that small business owners have things come up they can't control, but I have been trying to go there for 2 years! And there is no explanation on the website or posted on the storefront about why normal business hours aren't being kept. I'm so disappointed.

Neighborhood Family Care

Ever wish your family doctor was just a few minutes away from home? Mine is. It's a bit of a surprise to find a health care professional not hiding in some big, glossy, suburban office building or hospital, I know. On the other hand, don't be surprised when you walk in to this neighborhood doctor's office and find it isn't glossy at all. This is an office that serves the surrounding neighborhood out of a small, simple, clean space staffed by a small group that works very hard to meet the needs of the community. There are office hours to accommodate any schedule - you can even get some lab work done here instead of driving to yet another location. I appreciate having a doctor in my community. I appreciate that the doctor, the nurses, and even the interns feel so passionate about helping their patients. If you're a resident of Historic Northeast in search of a family physician, you'll be in good hands here.

Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse

This restaurant is located in a dated strip mall. This neither awards nor detracts points from my review, but for someone looking for an aesthetically pleasing dining option (maybe for a date or a business lunch) this isn't going to be a great location.

Entering the place is very unnerving. First, you can't help but notice the foul odor. It is a mixture of age, lack of thorough cleaning, and I'm pretty sure the water feature plays a part. Thankfully, the odor isn't prevalent anywhere except the entrance, but it definitely set me on edge about the place.

The interior space is well laid out and very typical of Midwestern Japanese steakhouses. However, there is so much accumulated filth (check out the greasy dust strings clinging to and floating around windows, ceiling, decorations, walls, etc, etc) that it is hard to feel comfortable with these people preparing my food. A good scrubbing and some paint could really turn all of this around. In addition, the host's stand is placed in front of a room, open for all to see, that showcases multiple old vacuums, mismatched hangers on what is presumably a coat check rack, and tons of other unappealing visual clutter. The host was apparently too tired to even look at any of it, often laying his head down between the arrival of new guests.

The grill/tables are dated but not scary. The place settings aren't adding any benefits to the table, but not scary.  The clearly ancient green water glasses that are screaming to be replaced and are very scary.

Our waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive. A+ to her. The cook mumbled through his jokes. I missed over 50% of what he was saying.

The food was mostly very good.

I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo. The soup tasted very good, though it did have spaghetti noodles as others have said. I don't know why that is such a problem. The salad was very fresh and cold. The house salad dressing was very good. My other option was a French dressing. The meal came with a shrimp appetizer, noodles, and grilled veggies. I upgraded to fried rice. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. The chicken seemed just a tad overcooked, but was still quite tasty.

My dear partner ordered the steak and scallops combo. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Her steak, though cooked just as she asked, was very tough - disappointing.

The prices are on par with other places of this kind. There is an early bird discount of 15% if you arrive between 4:30 and 6:00.

My relationship with this business started over a year ago, when the receptionist at my local gym suggested that I give her husband a call about a shower remodeling project. She gave me his number and card. I waited several months, but finally we were ready to get started on the project, so I emailed Ryan Crowe all the details about my project. This was in August 2010. He came out a few days later to give me an estimate. Then I didn't hear from him for a week. I emailed, he said he had to check some materials costs and he'd get back to me. A few weeks later he emailed me my estimate. I agreed immediately and waited for a reply. I waited a week and then emailed again. He told me that it would probably be fall before he could get to me due to the large projects he was working on currently. I agreed and left it alone until October. I emailed and waited. Finally, in November I received an email telling me that the material he had quoted was no longer available, but he could still do the work for the quoted price with a downgrade in material (no shelving unit in the shower). I was unhappy, but eager to get the work done, so I agreed. I hadn't heard anything from him since that discussion, so I emailed again in January to see what was going on. It had been about 5 months since my initial contact. A week later, he replied to tell me that he'd probably be able to come out in about 2 weeks. I agreed. Again, a month went by and I heard nothing from him. He emailed me about that time to apologize and told me to pick a few upcoming weekend that would work. I told him of the only upcoming weekend that would not work and promised to be available at any other time. I heard nothing from him. In May I both called (left a message due to no answer) and emailed to get status and set a firm date. He has not returned either my call or email. here I am, 9 months later, and I have to start all over trying to find someone to fix the shower due to the games Ryan Crowe played with my time and patience. I have all of the emails, in case anyone would like verification of this review.

I recommend that anyone considering using the services of Crowe Home and Property or Ryan Crowe look elsewhere. This has been a deep disappointment. Show owner comment »

On a tour to Yosemite, our driver/guide brought us here to grab lunch to go. The deli was ready for us and made sandwishes for about 20 people, though it was quite early. I had a decent chorizo burrito for breakfast and purchased sushi to take with me for lunch. My dear partner purchased a very nice sandwich for lunch.

On our way back from Yosemite, we stopped again. I spent more time perusing the bright, clean store. I love the variety. The prices are not outrageous as they are much on par with the Midwest. The produce area is like art - captivating and mouthwatering.

The store was not crowded or noisy, as some stores tend to be.

Best of all, the employees here were all quite nice about a bunch of people with backpacks tromping around their store.

Of all the little Chinese imports stores I walked through recently, this shop stood out for its clean, bright, uncluttered displays. The items offered are well curated. It is a small shop, so you won't get that feeling of being lost deep in the warehouse that some stores offer, but I find this helps me really see and consider the wares.

My dear partner and I popped in this store over the weekend to look for a bike mirror. The space is wide open, very comfortable. They carry what looked like mostly Giant bikes, with some Scott thrown in. They didn't have what I wanted, but the selection of accessories is really decent, they ahve at least a few of anything you might be loking for (except cruiser style bike mirrors, LOL) and they carry top quality, proven brands like Kryptonite locks, Park tools, and Saris racks. They also have tons of protein and energy supplements and a good selection of wearables. The prices are on par with most specialty bike shops.

AB May Company

I'm a girl who loves her air conditioning, so making certain my HVAC is well maintained is a top priority. Most places charge $75 or more to come out each spring and fall. With AB May, I have the lowest level service agreement, the "bronze" agreement. It costs me about $150 a year. I get fall and spring maintenance and a discount on any other services they provide. They offer a ton of services, including plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and duct cleaning.

My semi-annual maintenance has been absolutely as easy as pie. Scheduling is a breeze. I get reminders to schedule maintenance way in advance, so I am able to make sure that my appointment is at a convenient time well ahead of that first blazing hot day when half the city will be in a panic because their AC doesn't work. Appointments tend to be four hour windows, for example 8-12. But I don't have to lose half of my day waiting around - they call about 30 minutes before they arrive, giving me the freedom to go about my day. The techs are respectful of my home and usually very personable. The customer service is consistently good - pleasant and efficient. I like that I have a long-standing relationship with the company.  The one time I had a problem (while servicing the AC, the tech forgot to replace the disconnect. I didn't know there was a problem until that first crazy hot day of the year, when the AC wouldn't work), I spoke with the manager, Charlie. He went out of his way to get someone to the house to fix the problem. You just can't ask for better service.

So why only 4 stars, you might ask? Well, I did have the guys out for a couple of plumbing issues. The service for what turned out to be embarrassingly easy fixes with minimal parts costs cost me a small fortune. And that was with my 15% discount. Their prices were way out of line. For example, the plumber and I discussed replacing my sink faucet. The cheapest model they offered was an unknown brand that the plumber did not recommend that was 2 times more expensive than the very, very nice Moen model I picked up and installed myself later. After that experience, I do not call AB May for non-HVAC issues. I hope to hear that this experience was not the norm across all of their service areas and that I can count on them in the future, but for now, I'll stick with 4 stars.

Yes, all the Yelpers have told you is true. You could never mistake these tiny miracles for pedestrian chocolate. They're so artfully decorated that I can hardly bring myself to mar the beautiful perfection. And I find myself nibbling at each piece, knowing I'll be unable to savor the complete complexity without many tries. And the unusual options beg to be explored - Strawberry Balsamic Caramel, Venezuelan Spice, Rosemary Caramel, and Lavender....how do I choose?

Tonight, I tried a new piece and I assure you, there is no candy on Earth that could be more perfect. It is the Dark Chocolate Fleur de Sel Turtle. I have no words to tell you what that one piece meant to me...but I promise that I will never again gaze as lovingly at that red and white striped box of DeMet's. I only have eyes for Mr. Elbow's perfected version.
