Your Dog's Best Friends

We have been bringing our dog here since 2007 when we rescued her. We can not say enough good things about this place. Everytime we pick her up she has been delightfully exhausted (which is hard with our high energy pup). They have always been great at giving training advice with her, and just taking the time to get to know her and love her :) We know we leave her in good hands. We moved away and then came back, and while we were up in CT, we struggled to find a place that came near the level of care we get when we bring our dog here. If you're looking for a playcare or overnight kennel, look no further, this place is amazing :)

Camp Bow Wow & Home Buddies

I wanted to like camp bow wow. I really did. But the truth is, though the staff was well intentioned and friendly 90% of the time, they didn't have nearly enough space for the number of dogs they accept. My dog, though crazy, came back with bounds of energy which NEVER happens when she gets a full day of real exercise. Not just napping in the corner as we were told she oft did.  Eventually, because of her fence jumping (which she has done at three kennels now, and has only been a problem at Bow Wow) we were told she was no longer welcome. !!! Color us surprised considering we signed a waiver for her - we were told she was "too smart" or something to that extent. A day or two after that, she was simultaneously diagnosed with kennel cough. Thank you camp bow wow for that awesome parting gift.

The staff was helpful, most of the time. Some of the staff was rude, and once because we were running 15 minutes late from traffic forced us to keep her overnight despite the fact that we called over a half hour ahead of time that we were running 5-15 minutes late. That was not a $45 we were happy about spending.

It's unfortunate really, because I don't think there's many facilities like it in the area and we don't like to leave our dog home alone so when my husband and I know that we're both going to be out for much of the day at work, but I would not recommend Camp Bow Wow to any dog owner.

Went here a few nights ago after a friend recommended it to us - it's a favorite of his mother who is a Taiwanese native, thus the husband deemed it to be worthy of a try.

Was impressed overall, I had General Tso's Tofu which was incredible and sweet and savory with a touch of spice as one would expect. Tried the steamed dumplings which were decent - i'm an incredibly picky, dumpling snob but these lived up to my standards though the sauce was a little off, not sure why but I wasn't a huge fan of the ginger sauce that usually comes with dumplings.

Overall, i was relatively impressed - the prices were incredibly reasonable, the menu had a great selection, and the place was in a good, clean condition. Service was a little slow, but that's relatively common in my experiences at the more authentic type of chinese restaurants.

I would definitely recommend this place to any fan of chinese food.

Ted's Restaurant

Hubs and i heard about Ted's thanks to the Food Network (via a CT blog). We're Food Network/ Travel Channel junkies and take every opportunity to try a place that we've seen on TV. Ted's was no different, we were up in the Meriden area, called up a friend, had him meet us there.

Parking was scant, thankfully street parking seemed okay, and unlike other reviews, there was no line.

We ordered 3 cheeseburgers, and some home fries.

The homefries were okay. Nothing special.

The cheeseburger left much to be desired. I can however see how steamed burgers are an acquired taste. They reminded me however, of the lackluster burgers my mother used to cook on a fry pan on top of the stove. Flavorless and small.

The bun was good and hearty, the cheese was savory and melted perfectly but the burger itself was small, and just...tasteless. A touch of spices in the meat would have made it a million times better. While it was great to try, as it is certainly different than the run of the mill burger, it's not a burger I would go out of my way for. I'd stop in again if I happened to be in the area.

The service was great though, very quick which is always a plus no matter where you go. The prices were amazing - three of us had burgers, sodas and an order of homefries for about $20, you really can't go wrong with that.

If you're into trying unique types of food, I'd recommend it, but go in there with an open mind, and know that you are NOT getting the typical, grease laden burger.

Bugsy's Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar

Given my tendency to try new and interesting places, this place always intrigued me. I will however, not be going back.

The pizza was less than mediocre - tasteless and cold. The cheese was rubbery and the sauce was bland.

The service was slow despite the lack of people. The salad bar was ehhh - frozen cucumbers? Really? And the selection lacking for a restaurant who seems to pride itself on a lunch buffet.

Definitely not going back.

My fiancé described this place best - the perfect compliment to a Target Run.

It's not nearly as good as other pizza's I've had but when you live on capitol hill? Anything is better than Pizza Boli.

We shared a calzone which was pretty good except they forgot to put the sausage we asked for on it. The wait was a little long - but they made it from scratch so can you really complain? The calzone itself was pretty incredible, the dough was not too heavy, the sauce was a little too thin but had a good flavor to it and the cheese? Was melted just right. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed that Ricotta cheese was an extra $.80 - what is a calzone without Ricotta??

I'd go back though. I'm curious to try their pizza, among the other stuff their substantial menu affords. $16.99 for two medium pizza's? Sure why not! I usually pay $20 from the generic Domino's, Papa John's or Pizza Boli, so if it turns out to be quality pizza? I think I may have found myself a new pizza joint - too bad it'll cost the rental of a zipcar to get it.

Rosa Mexicano

I wanted to like Rosa Mexicano. And I do. But I can't deny the disappointment that was spurred after my last visit.

You see, I first went back in May for margaritas, and guacamole. It was just before some friends and I caught an early movie in Chinatown. The guacamole impressed me (even if it was a bit too spicy for my taste) and the margaritas were delicious.

The atmosphere was trendy but not overly trendy where we felt underdressed in jeans.

However, friday night, after happy hour we were hungry, missed the movie we were going to see so decided to grab dinner at Rosa.

The food - for what we got - seemed over priced and was not at all what I expected. It wasn't horrible, but it lacked...something. The menu, to my surprise had little to no selection.

Now, I think that I'm a mexican food snob. So maybe I'm being overly critical and maybe my expectations were too high. So while I would advise steering clear for dinner? I would highly HIGHLY recommend going, at the very least, for the guacamole (made in front of you!!! how can you beat that!) and the margaritas. I was a huge fan and despite my disappointments in the dinner menu? I know that I'll have a much more enjoyable experience at the bar.

I went with a friend expecting restaurant week - instead I found modestly priced entrees ($15-$20) with decently priced appetizers - since nothing on the restaurant week menu looked overly enticing/original to me, I got a tricolored lasagna with a caprese appetizer. The food was not superb, but not quite horrible either, i'd say "i've had better...and i've had worse". I would give the food 3.5 stars on its own, the service was decent - especially after my friend got a cracked glass they comped our drinks and desserts. The Tiramisu was delicious and perfectly flavored without being overly rich. The wine by the glass was not too horrible and I'm always a wine skeptic who sticks with what i know.

The service was decent enough, the atmosphere was pleasant and by 7p Opera had started in house which was a really unique experience. I'd recommend it to anyone who...wants a unique Italian experience. Don't expect five stars but it's definitely better than the local chain Italian restaurant!

I'd certainly go back. That lasagna was delicious!

I've been here twice before for prior Restaurant Weeks and always had decent experiences - the food being memorable but the service being nothing to write home about. So I was excited to make reservations again for a belated Valentines Day date with my fiance for Friday night.

Twenty minutes after our reservation, we were seated. It should be noted that the place was definitely not filled. Which made our belated seating and the less than stellar service inexcusable.

The food - was good. Nothing spectacular but not horrible. I've certainly had better. While Restaurant Week is an exception - high traffic, and set menus, if you're normally a "four star" restaurant or whatever it is Teatro claims to be, then you probably should make it so people want to come back.

Previous experiences left me wanting to go back, it was a favorite, but if I'm going to dish out a decent amount of money for a meal and a bottle of wine - I should be left wanting to come back. Last night left me not wanting to go back at all.

The service was, as I mentioned, inexcusably slow and rude, the food was nothing to write home about, and the wine left much to be desired. I've had better wines for a fraction of the cost of that $40 cabernet sauvignon.

Teatro, I had high hopes for you, in the past I've fallen in love with your gnocci and I've heard nothing but amazing things about your lobster risotto, unfortunately, now you're just another overpriced, over rated wanna be five star restaurant. I will not be back.

I wanted to write a good review about this place. My fiancé and I went after going to a concert at GWU last friday and he raved about it having gone there before and had a great experience with colleagues.

We sat at the bar, it wasn't too busy, apparently it's more of a GWU Grad School student hang out. It took ten minutes to get the bartender's attention, we were sitting toward the end and couldn't see what they had on tap so we asked. "What do you have on tap?"

"That stuff right there" was his answer. Now maybe it was just bad luck, bad staff on that night. But any bartender that says "that stuff right there" when you can't really see it? He didn't offer us a list. Didn't offer to name anything...

Sorry, I have had some GREAT bartenders serve me in my day, and he was not one of them. We didn't stay long enough to order - I'll have to go back. But be prepared for less than knowledgeable staff with less than stellar service.

Maybe I'll go back once more sometime when I'm back over in the foggy bottom area, hopefully I'll get a chance to try these tater tots I'm hearing of, maybe I'll even find out what they have on tap.
