I'd give this place half a star if I could. On demeanor alone , it seems that the people working at this DMV have failed out of life elsewhere and have a grudge against society.
Do yourselves a favor - before you open that door, go back to the subway at Bowling Green and go ANYWHERE else. For your own sanity's sake!

I didn't get the combo (this time around). but if $2.75'll get you two slices and a soda versus one so-so slice elsewhere, that's hard to beat.

I didn't participate (yet) in the Oprah Free Chicken Giveaway, but when my friend Rebecca told me about it last night, a hankering arose from deep within for chicken of the Kentucky Fried variety.
So this evening after class, I took a ride down Shelburne Road to satisfy my craving. To call the service mediocre would be an insult to millions of hardworking fast food employees, so let's call this sub-mediocre instead, shall we?
Stars were removed for the following:
Greeted with rude, "how dare you patronize our establishment" attitude - regrettably, not for the first time. (-1)
Friendly cashier tried to overcharge me for adding a side before I pointed out the fifty cent difference between the price on the receipt with that on the overhead menu. (-1)
Medium combo drink downsized to shrimpy small size - cheap bastards! (yes, you can get a refill, IF you're going to be eating there) (-1)
Wedges dumped into/all over bag - great way to say "please visit us again." (-1)

If you get that Kentucky Fried Craving, do yourselves a favor and visit the Colonel in Essex Junction instead.

Two Saturday nights ago, I came down to Muddy Waters to do some writing done (like the other 300 million of us, I'm working on the Great American Novel), and found, to my surprise... NO POWER OUTLETS! The coffee was good, the live music was great, and the barista was cute... but there were no power outlets to be found. For a MacBook user, that would be no big deal. For a 3-year-old-laptop-with-no-battery-user, that's kind of a big deal. One star for the music, and one star for the coffee.

First temp agency I've ever visited where I had to watch a safety video. Add a star for the immediate interview (most agencies want you to email your resume and then wait 'til hell freezes over before they'll call you in), but minus a star for the TWENTY PAGE APPLICATION I had to fill out the night before. I could get a job in Obama's cabinet with less vetting!
And no direct deposit until you've worked with them for 30 days? This Apple might have some worms in it...

I was riding through Foggy Bottom yesterday around lunchtime, reflecting on my hunger and the state of my appetite, when I gazed out the window at 1990 K St. NW, and saw something like a mirage, but better.
It was comfortable (though the cashiers seemed a *bit* pushy), open and airy. Fresh food, liberal amounts of cheese, and somewhat conservative pricing (compared to say, Chipotle).

Free wifi, delicious bread, and free coffee/soda refills? What more can you ask?
If you don't feel like making the schlep to Hoboken, they've got a Queens location just off the Steinway St. stop on the G/R/V. Just as good.

Went with some friends to kick off a Friday night a few weeks ago. One of the guys swore by the place, so it was fine with me. If you can find the place the first time around, and don't mind the out-the-door line (which might even help you find it), the whatchuwantorderrightnoworgetouttahere service, and the fact that the BJ is smaller than most New York City closets, it's great.
Otherwise, skip it and find a halal cart. You'll end up eating outside, anyway.

Definitely a bum deal, and not what it's cracked up to be (I hate to disagree with the 3- and 4-star reviewers above me, but I must). It helps to have low standards and expectations, but even then you still might not land a date. Maybe it's gone downhill in the last year. Tsk.
I've tried the thing for a month, and never ceased to be amazed that a) it never manages to find yours truly a date, despite my anyone-with-a-pulse standards, although b) new people join all the time. Timewaster.

For reasons of pure economics, I'm more of a Megabus passenger than a Bolter (those fabled $1 Bolt seats seem harder to get ahold of than Anne Hathaway's home number), but I missed the last Mega last night, and had to Bolt it back from DC this afternoon. I'm on the bus now, and we're over an hour late (shoulda hit Canal Street at 6; rolling through Dirty Jersey at 7), but thanks to the power plugs (my laptop has NO battery juice) and dependable wifi, five+ hours on a bus have never flown by like this before. Plus, Bolt's wifi was easier to connect to than Starbucks'.
I had to buy the ticket spur-of-the-moment last night, and even so, it only set me back $20 - less than half Greyhound's walkup fares, and gets me back to NYC long before Megabus (the only available trips for today were 9:15 and 11:15 - no dice.
Leather-like seats, no screaming children, broken English or garbage bags used for luggage... I could get used to this. I'm not a convert just yet, but if BoltBus started running later than 6:30 (horribly inconvenient for day trips), I might be.
