Servers were harried since the place was packed, but they kept the beer and wings flowing nicely. This bar is cozy with an outdoor space in the back for those warmer nights.
Can't remember the last time I spent $20 on dinner AND drinks (with a generous tip and tax!) and walked away so happy. I really do love Astoria!
Parched and hungry after some early holiday shopping, my friend and I were greeted warmly and given a seat right away. For a Wednesday night, Boqueria got very crowded by the time 7:30PM rolled around. Seating for 2 is a raised but comfortable table near the bar. The wine list is extensive and completely quenched our thirst. We both love Spanish whites (okay, reds too) so we went with a bottle.
Service was a bit rushed throughout...when asked for a minute to pore over the wine list or the tapas, we were given about 30 seconds. The food also came out almost all at once, overcrowding our little table, so I would definitely suggest a reservation any night of the week.
The food was delicious. Mouthwatering patatas bravas, really zesty pan con tomate. The fried cod with a creamy sauce was the real winner. I could skip the mushrooms next time.
The desserts looked just as tempting, but we went with another glass of wine - a different white - as we somehow finished our bottle. Next time I'm all about the flan.

At brunch, there's definitely a scene - young groups convened at the bar and at the tables, atmosphere is fun but not too loud so that you can't hear your friends. Service was sweet, the food - we all got the salmon and eggs - was fresh and delicious. Extra points for knowing it's organic!

The Bar Room at The Modern

The word impeccable comes to mind when describing the Bar Room at the Modern, from the service (simply lovely, knowledgeable) to the atmosphere, from the location to of course the drinks and food. The wine list here is extensive; our table tried one German white and a couple of reds - surprisingly, I loved the Merlot, and I'm not usually a Merlot kinda girl.
One great thing about going out with a group of 7 - many dishes here are tapas-sized, so we got to try a little of almost everything. Plates that stood out for me - the duck confit, the Scottish salmon, the upside down tuna tart, the codfish and the beignets (complete with 3 different dipping sauces, including caramel). However, you could ask anyone at the table and they may have a different response...my friends also loved the steak tartare, the flank steak, the shaved pumpkin salad (glorious), the roasted sweetbreads, and the sausage. In addition to the beignets, the apple strudel stood out as simply divine - light, fluffy, flavorful. Yeah, we really went for the entire menu.
I think it will be a while before I find a restaurant that rivals this experience.

The promoters at Sullivan Room usually work very hard at combining new and up-and-coming talent with established DJs and the crowd is always up for a good time.

I have gone to Ido many times this summer, and not only is it consistently good but the staff and chefs recognize a regular customer. They are so friendly and sweet, the lunch deal is excellent and the sushi remains fresh, flavorful, delicious.

I'm a bit surprised at some of the negative reviews on here. I tried this place years ago and enjoyed it...now with a friend having moved close by, I have had the opportunity to go more often. Got delivery last week, which was quick and fresh, and went to the restaurant last night.
I LOVE the atmosphere of this place, complete with cozy booths and low lighting, definitely different than most sushi places. Once it gets crowded, they have live entertainment - last night was piano and opera! And the talent was fantastic!
We had 2 glasses of wine and they hooked us up for the 2nd, filling the glass to the rim. At the end of the meal, the waitress did a dance to the tambourine while she shook up a free sample of their ginger martini - that's hospitality!
Everything here has been fresh every time I've ordered it. My friend and I had the everything salmon roll, the crunchy spicy tuna roll, the avocado roll. Fish was always of high quality.
The one downside, no happy hour specials and pricey drinks, but if you become friendly with the staff you will get your money's worth in drinks!

I have gone to one particular facialist the last couple of times and she is efficient, professional, and the products she recommended (not pushed, not many, one or 2) have worked wonders.
The above is what's most important to me, but Bliss also provides lockers, robes, a relaxation room...when I'm getting my facial I can't hear the noise outside the room.
That being said, I would recommend Bliss for a facial or maybe a massage - the manicure/pedicure isn't anything you can't get at any walk-in place in NYC.

Wine is the way to this woman's heart, and there's certainly no lack of wine here. One night the waiter informed me they were out of the particular chenin blanc I had ordered, but not to fear - there were at least 3 other chenin blanc choices on the menu. I like back up plans!
The stilton fondue went very well with the bread, potatoes, carrots and yes pickles; but surprisingly the mussels with fries were really the perfect dish to split.
Polite & competent service; full glasses; happy patrons.
