I hate you.
You've become a central part of life, helped me to alienate myself from anyone and everyone, caused nervous breakdowns, given me a gut, rendered me useless morning after morning, filled me with fear, rage, and animosity.
We're done for a while, despite all the positive times I've had with you. You've outstayed your welcome, and I am kicking you to the curb.
Fuck. You.

This place reeks of my childhood. Everything about it hits me with waves of nostalgia, down to the hideous naugahyde wall hanging.
To be honest, I felt more of a connection with the Manhattan location, which has been gone for quite some time, but that doesn't make this spot any less pleasant. While it's not of the caliber of Greenpoint Polish grub, their soups and pierogies are more than decent. Dill-heavy chicken soup, scrumptious white borscht, greasy entrees, what more could you ask for? It is the epitome of inexpensive comfort food, located in a part of Brooklyn Heights where you will generally pay a lot more for a satisfying meal than you are willing. An added bonus is that you can walk off that heavy, greasy grub with a stroll along the Promenade!
Do it!

Frankies 17
Category: Italian
Neighborhood: Lower East Side
As we walked into Frankies (a spot I have been DYING to visit), I was suddenly feeling very awkward. The romantic, dim lighting, the music, the attentive service, wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen...it all had me looking around frantically, wondering which parallel universe my boyfriend and I had wandered into. It was a far cry from a couch, plates of home cooked bargain fare, and some Law & Order: SVU on the screen. I calmed myself down and tried to convince myself that I could handle the date spot atmosphere, and sat at the table.
After ordering a bottle of wine and looking around nervously, we got back into the swing of things. The Valpolicella, a conservative $36.00 bottle, was dry, but very drinkable. Our antipasto came quickly, exciting our taste buds with some of the best broccoli rabe I've ever tasted, roasted, garlicky cauliflower, spicy sopressata, two cheeses, and some seriously divine parma prosciutto. The prosciutto really blew our minds, melting in our mouths, bringing us to close our eye in ecstasy. The couple next to us was probably weirded out.
After our incredible antipasto plate, the wonderful server (he was so attentive, our glasses of water were never empty) brought out our pastas. We went with the much talked about cavatelli in a brown butter & sage sauce, with Feicco's hot sausage, and the sweet potato sage ravioli in parmesan broth.
HOT. DAMN. This was without a doubt the best cavatelli I've ever had, and the best way it has been prepared for me. Between heavenly bites of cavatelli, Carlos Y. would split a delicate ravioli in half, and serve one half to me, and plop one in his mouth. It was disgusting, like food pornography. The orgasm faces continued throughout our main courses, and once the food was gone we were left with half a bottle of wine and some very happy stomachs. The evening was perfection from start to finish. I cannot rave more about the wonderful cooking. Frankie's really takes comforting Italian cuisine to a new level. While each dish is something that you can replicate at home to some degree, the way they do it is such that I can never see myself being as satisfied with Italian again.
We should go on more dates.
If you're not willing to venture far from the Riverwalk, this is the spot for you. It's unpretentious, not too filled with tourists and the prices are great! Sit outside and watch drunken fools stumble by, and hope, pray that one of them falls into the river for you to laugh at maniacally.

I booked an appointment here for my boyfriend and after chaperoning him I ended up booking one for myself. I take haircuts really seriously. I've had several TERRIBLE experiences and once I find someone I trust it is hard to pull me away. After watching Allie approach my dude's hair with overwhelming confidence and care I was blown away. She worked that razor like no other. He left the appointment with less hair to play with, but looking quite handsome.
I booked her for 2 days later. When I got home I read all these horror stories of razors being used on thin/fine hair and became petrified. Had I made a huge mistake? I was definitely tense in the chair but Allie, yet again, exuded confidence and I was quickly calmed by how sure of herself she was. She knew exactly what to do with my hair. The change was nothing drastic or overtly METAL, but man I feel SEXY! I definitely don't feel like I am walking away with a shorter version of my old 'do, which is usually my issue. I really cannot wait to come back! Totally worth $60.00.
Allow me to quote Tenacious D:
"No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know"

The evening started off nicely, $5.00 for a cup of beer with free refills. Nothin' wrong with that! Paired with some decent music in their spacious performance zone in back, I had a solid time. I'm excited to see what their future exhibitions will look like, as the show that was on display had just ended.
