The Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil sandwich here is my favorite sandwich in all of Sacramento. It sometimes takes forever to get it, but its worth the wait! They also have some great sweats- muffins, cookies. Yummy! I also suggest gettign fresh baked bread here...I love their sourdough and they make a great challah too.

This place is great! They have great hush puppies and fried fish. I also have tried the crab bisque and it was one of the best I've had. Definitely good cold weather food!

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens

I had the pleasure of touring Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens during the Christmas self-guided  tours and really enjoyed it. The house is absolutely stunning!
However,  I would have enjoyed the tour a lot more if it was a guided tour by a trained docent. I really wanted to learn about the family and the rich history of the buildings and the architecture, but none of that was explained at all during the Christmas tour. Instead, each room was decorated in a different  time period- which is kind of silly  when you are touring a historic building- especially when you get into the 1990-2010. Who wants to see a historic building decorated with Ugg Boots and an Ipod?
Anyways, the house was beautiful and I am looking forward to going back and getting the full guided tour.

Broiler Steakhouse

Neighborhood: Downtown

I would actually give this 4.5 stars if that were possible.
My hubby and I are making the rounds of steakhouses in the greater Sacramento area. He always orders the fillet, and I am usually looking for something new. Our most recent dinner was at the Broiler Steakhouse and I have to say, it is actually our favorite so far!
First of all, I like eating downtown, away from the strip malls. If I'm going to spend over $100 on a meal, I'd rather not eat next door to a Target.  Broiler also makes it easy with complimentary parking in the adjacent garage (if you have a reservation).
Anyways, even though I walk by Broiler all the time, I've never been inside. I think that this place might get lost in the shuffle between Esquire and Ella and Chops, and its easy to miss if you don't pay attention. The decor isn't anything special. Its clean and kind of has an old school lobbyist restaurant vibe.
The staff was really wonderful. The manager came by several times to see how our dinner was going and actually seemed to care.
The menu has a ton of different options- from prime rib to porterhouse, chicken, fish, shellfish, risotto and pasta.
We both ordered salads and we both were very happy with them. They were actually quite large for side salads, and all the ingredients were fresh and well presented. I had the spinach salad- which has a fantastic vinaigrette and he had the house salad- which had great looking greens.
I decided to order something I'd never had before- the Beef Wellington. It was really good (although since I've never had this dish before I have nothing to compare it to) It also came with Au gratin potatoes which were amazing.
Hubby of course ordered the fillet, and he said it was one of the best he's ever had  and he loved the Dijon mustard sauce that he ordered on the side.
To top it all off, we had a creme puff dessert with chocolate lava sauce....yummy!!
To wrap it all up, this is definitely going to be in our rotation of favorite dinner spots.

So glad to have this gem in my neighborhood! Not only is the food fantastic, but they deliver! We always have takeout or we have them deliver, so I can speak to the dining experience- but I can say the food is fantastic.
I love the green curry and the pad Thai is great too.
If you live in South Natomas and want some yummy Thai food without the drive- this is the place!

Hands down one of the best dinners I have ever had. Everything was perfect from start to finish. We had a group of 6, and each of us ordered a different entree, and each of us thought that what we ordered was absolutely amazing. The clam chowder was amazing and my fish was perfectly cooked.
Not a seafood fan? That's OK- they have options for you too, My hubby got the fillet Mignon and he is still talking about it days later- it was that good.
An entree is going to run you $20-$35 plus your salad or soup (another $5-$10). So, its not a cheap eat but in my opinion well worth the money.

Looking for a great place to relax away from the crowds at Tahoe or Reno? This is the place! Located in the historic town of Genoa (just 1 short drive from Tahoe and Reno), a day at the hot springs is a super relaxing way to spend the day.
The locker rooms (with sauna and steam room) are very clean, and the staff was very friendly. We paid $20 for an all day visit, and I thought it was worth the money. It would have been even better if it wasn't such a hot day (hot day, plus hot springs = hot and tired me).
I enjoyed trying out each of the little hot tubs filled with spring water and I loved the way it made my skin feel.
The other guests at the hot springs were all very nice and everyone was chatty and pleasant to talk to. When I visited I found it to be a very diverse crowd, from older ladies visiting from Russia to young couples from the bay area looking for a romantic weekend away to a couple of families with teenage children. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Oh- and unlike some other hot springs, bathing suits are mandatory- which I appreciated as I was visiting the hot springs with my mom.
I did not stay at the hotel- just enjoyed the hot springs. I definitely want to go back and have decided the perfect way to spend the day would be hot springs, massage at the spa and then be magically transported to the hotel (having to walk across the parking lot to the hotel is far too much work after lounging in the spa and getting a massage- don't you think?)

Sometimes when you go someplace all the time, you skip out on the things that seem touristy- like the Gondola at Heavenly. So glad that family from the east coast wanted to make the trip up the mountain to see the views. AMAZING!!!
I've been to Tahoe a billion times, hung out on every side of the lake- but nothing compares to seeing the lake from the views on Heavenly. I could have stayed up there all day. So beautiful, so relaxing.

Sacramento's best bagels! Yummy, these are delicious. Lots of different types to choose from, lots of cream cheese spreads and the price is great- just $2 for a toasted bagel with cream cheese. Agree with other reviews- the service is not bad, but they are not super friendly either. I dont mind though- I just want a yummy bagel, and quick- and Main Street does just that.
The location stinks (beware of the parking lot- it is chaotic) but if you want a delicious bagel, this is the place.

My hubby and I agree- worst meal we have ever had. Ever.
Seriously.
And I'm not a picky eater. On top of the food being pretty gross, it is also way overpriced. I don't mind paying high prices for decent food- but these prices are way too high for a meal that we literally could not eat. I normally do not post negative reviews from one experience- but this was so bad and so overpriced I would feel horrible if someone came here with hard earned money and experienced what we did.
My husband took one bite of his thirteen dollar burger and pushed the plate away. And, my husband never turns away a burger. Ever. He loves burgers. I have never seen him not finish a hamburger. But this one (described as a "large" burger) looked like a microwaved fast food burger- or something you get at a school cafeteria. It was cold, and so were the fries it was served with.
I had the shrimp melt, which was a toasted piece of what seems like store bought sourdough, with a ton of mayo caked on top with a pile of cocktail shrimp and cheddar cheese melted on top.
Shrimp is my favorite food. I love sourdough.Put the two together and you should have heaven on a plate. But this was not good. I had a bite and one bite was all i could do.I was so hungry and all those poor shrimps went to waste because I honestly could not eat another bite. (So sorry shrimp!)
To top it off, there was a huge pile of bird poop on our table.
We had to ask three times for water, and when it finally appeared in glasses slightly larger than a shot glass (no joke) one of the glasses was filthy.
Our server was very nice, but kept forgetting what we had asked her for.
For all of this- 2 sodas, a piece of bread with cooked shrimp meat and cheese, and a cold hamburger, our bill was over $50.
We ended up stopping at Carls Jr on the way home and it was $9 well spent.
My advice, skip the food at Sinbads. If you want the atmosphere, stick with drinks at the bar. Hopefully you get a clean glass.
