A Salt & Battery

Sorry to call out on the name of the fish & chip shop, but my friend and I were lol-ing about the name, but it does make it memorable though. So I made a stop at this place when it was raining outside, and weather made me think of how London weather is like, cloudy. This is my first individual experience with fish and chips. I had one experience with fish & chips as a eating choice of my dining companion. I was looking forward to the mushy peas. I ordered that with the Haddock and Chips.

Criticism, this place is freaking overpriced for their soda and water.. for $2 whereas I would expect the price to be a $1, I was kinda annoyed by that aspect. Also another aspect, wishing for better seating. Booths and by the window makes this place seem like a dive/hole in the wall.

Probably I would make a comeback trip to this venue if my sis or friends want to try this out, but one it has to be eaten at better location, and two I am going to try the Pollack. Honestly though, I am not a fan of fried fish though, it was quite a greasy fare.

Prosperity Dumpling

Okay price for this joint really can't be beat. Cheap eats. If you plan a trip out here though, make sure you don't get mixed up with the school crowd. There is a Junior High school right across the street, so yes jostling for space here with students makes for a very noisy and dare I say rude space.

This place is a hole in the wall, and there is really no space to eat here. I came here because I wanted to try their beef sandwich, and it is very very greasy. It was  though an interesting "healthy" Chinese sandwich, with carrots, beef, and parsley. So be prepare to bring wipes before you go to this location.

So repeat.. do not go there if school has just let out, and probably crowd management might be a bit better.

Update - 4/9/2012 1 Check-in Here
I recently made another dumpling foodie hop here and I was not as impressed. Similar to Duke C's experience, I also made a stop at Prosperity before this.

At this point, I kinda wished that there was a better line management. I was skipped and I got sassed at by another customer. The lighting is also terrible, have you noticed how much I am not a fan of dim lighting? If there's dim lighting then lots of things get concealed.

Dumplings here also has a bit more thickness to their dough, I wasn't as happy with that. You don't really get as much, as you would in Prosperity.. and my friend remarked on that. Where as at Prosperity you would get a beef sandwich, you don't get the same option at this location.

Knocking elbows with people, and getting sassed at. I wanted to leave after that.

Yay... I am quite grateful for friends bringing me here today. It was a really long day of just foodie stops here and there. So this was my third time eating dumplings today. I give this place pretty much a thumbs up.

The price is decent for the dumplings they serve. Definitely try the Chives and  pork dumplings. They're really good for about 8 pieces at 3 bucks or so. My friend said that the pancakes were at 75 cents a slice, so that's good CHEAP eats!

Noodle with vegetable was a bit bland.

Iced Lemon tea I had was a great refreshing drink.

    Okay some other tips...

Make sure you have luck to not be caught in the wave. This place for some reason or another felt a bit to me like a cafeteria. If you're starving, and waiting for your order to be filled. Make sure you're not in the back of the line.

Upon getting into the restaurant... make sure one extra friend is there to grab one of the restaurant's limited seating. Granted this location is not as tiny as other hole in the wall dumplings spots, but still....

Know that the bathroom is opened by a key that is located near the door, otherwise you'll be waiting there wondering if something was wrong with the door. (It is also typical gross Chinatown toilet.. so take your poison)

This place is a good cheap eat spot, that attracts not just the Chines, but also non-Asian foodies, and tourists as well!

This place is okay, I went here with my friend to try their dessert.. One thing to note, there is not store sign that states this location, so you have to be on the right side of street, otherwise you'll be walking in circles.

Getting into the table was also a tight squeeze, you share space with other people in a close space. I spent the evening staring at my friend's soymilk ice cream desert. I also was staring at other customer's food, but then my friend reminded me that staring is rude, though can it be helped?

I had wanted to try this place after reading a review from a food blog with a delicious looking anmitsu, and what a strange taste this dish is. I am not a fan of salty to a sweet desert, the mochi was also kinda doughy tasting, though I normally love mochi as a food. I think the best thing was the sorbet. Agar was tasting also pretty funny. Their menu changes with the seasons, so I went with their winter menu.

This is a pretty chic trendy place. The price is not cheap though. The lighting is a bit on the dim side, so I was not as impressed., if it wanted to create a romantic atmosphere. Also I was surprise to note that the chef in this spot is not Japanese. So my opinion as of now is this is a trendy fusion spot. One thing to note if I ever make a return trip here again, come here during the daytime, and order other items than the anmitsu, along with an actual drink instead of their filtered yet delicious tap water.

First time at this place and... this is a location that slightly reminds me of MosBurger in Japan...there is just soooo much options to order from, as you self-customize a burger to go.

The few times I went there, I always order condiments on the side. This place is clearly located as a location meant to serve the working population in this area.

Health conscious and burger joints has been popping up. I first heard of this store from a television program, and visited there. When they give a receipt, they often spell out what exact ingredients used, and calories spelled out.

This was also a store that was one of the earliest I saw in using iPads to solicit people to frequent their store. So I always have this place on my mind if I am in the mood for a customized burger.

Hmmm...came here with a large group of friends and it was fun. It is a distance from the subway, though the walk back to Flushing helps on dealing with the calories digested from the all you can eat eat buffet.

The waiters come by and flip your grilling plate, so that is perhaps a way to be more hygienic?  There's a lot of selection in grilling meat, I don't eat that much grilled meat, and have not gone there, since I last went, but I would like to take my family there.

I hear a lot of good reviews of this place.. and it is all right. The wait staff is helpful.. but for chipped cups.. it all felt like you paid for the atmosphere.. and even then, after staring at the bill for three people, it stung. Everything felt overpriced, and the only thing I can say was good was the tea I had was a Summer Peach. My friend had a Alice Tea which was quite nice. So I came here for a one time experience. and that's that.

Scones in my opinion are pretty heavy.. so let's say that even if lots of people liked it.. it is not for everyone.

Starbucks

This is the closest Starbucks to me, so if I in a need of Coffee fix then logically I should be coming to this location. Experiences have proven that I should just grit my teeth, and hoof it to the city instead.

Some memorable experiences that I have experienced in this Starbucks..

--- When Starbucks was initially celebrating their 40th Birthday. This place was decorated the best in terms of other Starbucks I went to in that weekend. I actually threw money down in purchasing two limited edition items from the Tribute line... but  Boo to the fact that I couldn't take any pictures except for the lolly.. So if there was a party, and no one was allowed to take pictures, is there logic in that? Not like I am going to do anything bad with the pictures. Sheesh!

--- This place is fine for bringing your book to read at. No problems as I did spend an afternoon jut catching up with my reading, but if you have an electronic gadget. Unless you come at an early morning time. The all the plugs would and will be taken.

-- As a gadget user, one of the most important thing is to have a continual energy source. Well one time I was here, and looking for an outlet, the table that conveniently had a wall plug was unfortunately occupied by two woman that wants to sit there and soak up the sun's uv rays. What's the deal with that. I ended up giving up, and heading over to Bay Ridge library where I actually found a comfortable spot to write on my charging gadget.

Bah.. so technically this place is great for plain reading, or just going to pick up coffee, but for people who work or study, this is a place where the wall sockets is snatched up quickly! Hence I have my preferences in heading over to Soho's Starbucks.

Strand Bookstore

Hmm...for any book lovers,  this place is a must visit at least once or so. Then if you like this store, then you can visit at your own decision.

Goods about this place:
--Staff is pretty helpful.
--You can sell almost anything here for a reasonable price, provided that the book is in Strand's system as a sell-able product. It is quite quick and automated.
--If you don't have a specific pick in mind, this is a physical location to browse through trucks and trucks of book.

Bads about this place
--If you have a specific title. Good luck trying to find anything in this store. Books are organized loosely byt subject for serious subjects, but for the craft books or the manga, forget about it! (Last time I was trying to find a book, and the computer/information said that there were copies, but even with staff assistant. I was empty handed by the time I left the store.)
--You can get eyestrain from just trying to stare at the titles and titles.
--Branding of Strand's name is a bit too much. So take this store as not the end all and be all.

There are other bookstores around the city, like BookOff. Since Strand has that reputation of being the Used books, you can check this out or head over to the nearby Barns&Noble as well.

Inatteso Pizzabar Casano

I really don't believe I will come here again. Getting to this location, from the consistently in construction Ground Zero location is pretty much  a call for getting lost. So if you're coming from White Hall South Ferry or Bowling Green, then that's a shorter walk.

Also a bit of a warning, there is two different locations for 28, and a 30 in the middle of the street. So Inatteso has two store fronts, a bakery, and the pizza bar. So both is on the ends of the streets, and it is confusing if you are not familiar with this location, and is pretty much starving.

Getting onto the food, the best thing I thought about this meal was the bread. Now the bread was freshly baked, and very soft. There was also a nice dip with it.

Now getting onto the entrees, the pizza we ordered was charred.. honest to god charred and burnt on bottom. My friends and I also ordered lasagna, and seriously that was rich for me. My sister liked it, but I was so so about it. I really doubt I will be coming back to this location.
