 Update - 10/17/2009
Update, had the thin crust pizza.  Not the biggest fan.  Very thin, and very crisp, was pretty average.  If you like pizza on the thinner side than this is the one for you.  Not quite as thick as a typical Chicago "thin."  Prices seemed to be on the high side as well.  I'll stick to the pasta from this place.

Sadly can't review the pizza.  After being shut in with the flu (doing my part to stop the spread)  I worked up quite an appetite during the week.  Had a sudden urge for spaghetti and meatballs.  My roommate suggested the place and I got spaghetti w/meat sauce and meatballs and garlic bread and pizza bread.  Ordered on Grub Hub, delivery was quick.  The pizza bread was good, nice mild (but seasoned) sauce and cheese, chewy but still crisp on the bottom, even delivered.  Garlic bread came slices, I would have prefered it to be in the same loaf format, that way it would have been more crisp.  Was decent but not exceptional nor exceptionally garlicy (more buttery).  The spaghetti was nice, pretty standard in size and a hair softer than al dente (I prefer spaghetti on the thicker, less soft side) but well done.  The sauce had a nice spicy italian sausage taste in it.  My favorite thing is it was not drowning in the sauce and the sauce has some nice real tomato chunks in it.  Nice and balanced.  Big, well done meatballs rounded it out.  A good meal all in all, and plenty of leftovers for tomorrow.

Just did the FEAR play.  Loved it.  Loved our host too, the "bride", excellent time.  If you can rustle up a group, or go it alone, its well worth it.  If you like haunted houses, or small theatre, or dance, or puppets, or just the asthetic of the macabre, you'll enjoy yourself.

Hugemongous.  And really Buckingham is pretty cool.  Just watch those kids, the first time they see it.  Its really nice to have this big, clean space for the city.  It really is Chicago's back yard space.  From the Taste, to the 6 Bulls championship rally's, to Obama's Rally this is the place where the city gathers in the summer.  Not to bad even on non-special occasions either.

I have to admit I kind of like it.  I like all the little bits, the garden, the bean the music venue, the ice rink, the fountain.  While I find its not really that integrated, its sort of just lined up together, I have to admit, its really nice to have in the city.  The parking is pretty cool too, if you can find your way in.

Chicago Opera Theater

A really very different experience from the more traditional opera experience, the Chicago opera theater does more intimate, modern types of opera.  The theater itself is astonishingly sparse and modern (and underground!), and is actually quite large, so I recommend sitting on the floor level if you can, as even 1st balcony is much higher than I thought it would be.  The COT website makes it very easy to buy and pick tickets (if only it were so easy with the Lyric).  Excellent all around, although I must admit I prefer the more traditional Lyrics approach, COT does not really try to do the same thing, so they are not in competition so much as in complementary producions.

Lyric Opera of Chicago

I've seen about a dozen operas at the Civic Opera house over the last ten years or so.  While there I've seen my fair share of questionable directorial decisions, the quality of the performers and performances and technical presentation really has never been anything but first class.  The interior is beatiful and the sound is very good for such a large house. The Lyric really excels at the big Grand Opera presentation, and their season is usually full of the popular crowd pleasing favorites.  As far as the few criticisms go, in the nosebleed sections sound and sighlines suffer since the opera house is so vertically huge.  Also if you buy a ticket once, they put you on a call list and hound you forever for donations.  A great first opera experience for anyone.

Had my first opportunity to see the CSO at their home last wednesday and was pleasantly surprised.  Nice venue with very good sound (better sound than the Lyric Opera).  Entry was quick and easy, and the performance was great.  A truly world class orchestra, I even got to hear someone use the organ (I like organs).  I also found some easy $10 parking two blocks down,

I have to admit I like this place.  I think I just like singing though.  I like to pay the musicians to stop singing songs I don't like.  While there tends to be a lot of bachelorette parties and its full of tourists and downtown types, the upside is that utter cheesiness of it tends to frighten away the selfconscious types.  Avoid the place if you take your personal pride too seriously.  Although if your an attention whore, avoid the place as well, as nobody really will really want to pay any attention to you either.  The crowd can be a bit much (drunk, obnoxious).  But its pretty fun place if you can ignore all that and like to singing along.  Prices are typical for downtown (high).  Its kind of like Second City, I wouldn't go there very often, but I'd try it out at least once with a bunch of friends.

Had this pizza a couple of times, deep dish is very crispy, buttery.  Crust is just a wee bit too hard or dense for my taste.  While I appreciate a crust that will hold up to sauce and cheese without getting soggy, its a bit too brittle for me.  Perhaps I will try as a thin crust as mentioned in other reviews, it may translate better.  Sause has some nice flavor, and there is just a tad too much cheese for me, but other people love that (I like my cheese to stick and not slide off as its own piece).  Fried chicken is good, but its not as good as the broasted stuff from Father and Sons and the like.  This place has delivered to us at Goldies on more than one occasion, it hits the spot.
