La Fontana Siciliana

Category: Italian

Some of the best Italian food we've had outside of Italy! We started out with the calamari - it was fantastic. Cooked just enough with a light pesto on top with a bed of greens with a touch of balsamic. Outstanding and refreshing start.

I went with the Gamberi Fra Diavolo. The shrimp were super sweet and succulent, the pasta perfectly cooked, and the sauce just spicy enough! You could really taste the smokiness from the roasted red peppers.

The fiancee went with the ricotta filled ravioli with mascarpone tomato sauce. He is half Italian and loves ravioli, after eating the ravioli at La Fontana Siciliana, he would have surely ordered another to go if I'd have let him!

And for dessert, I had a lovely panna cotta and the fiancee went with the cannoli. All in all, it was a top notch meal with lovely service.

While we used a Groupon, we will be back soon as it's an Italian joint that rivals what you can find back east.

How have I not reviewed this place yet? It never disappoints. The specialty/seasonal pies are good, but I think we have decided that all we ever need is the buffalo mozzarella, red sauce, fresh basil and the sweet fennel sausage, peppers, provolone.

Those two pizzas are what heaven must be like. And the crust, it really must be made from crack. My fiancee says the buffalo mozzarella, red sauce, fresh basil pizza tastes the closest to pizza back 'home' (New York).

I called them around 2 on Saturday, they were able to get me a 4pm appointment for a shellac manicure ($25). It was my first one ever, and it was great! Ann was so friendly and efficient! Most importantly, my nails look great! I will definitely be going back, and I will recommend to my friends! They greeted almost every client that came in by name, so that was great to see. Also, the hand massage was amazing!

The Modern

So for Christmas, the fiancee and myself decided to treat ourselves to a weekend in Manhattan before heading upstate to his hometown. As part of that, a fancy meal in the city was on our list. Let me just say, that hands down our dinner at The Modern was the *best* dining experience of my entire life.

The review is a bit long as I had to chronicle each course (of course), but I will just summarize right now saying for a relatively decent price ($98 for 4 course prix fixe), you'll have a meal to remember that will both excite and satisfy.

We started out with cocktails at the bar (pricy by my standards, but delicious). My Modern Martini (cilantro infused tanqueray gin and lime juice) was refreshing yet savory and the cherry infused bulleit bourbon cocktail the fiancee had tickled his fancy as well!

As for dinner, we went with the 4 course option as opposed to the 7 course chef's tasting menu. Considering the canapes and amuse bouche to start (all incredible morsels) and the post-dessert treats, I don't think I could've done the 7 courses!

For course one, I went with the "Fantaisie" of Scampi Tartare. Langoustine Tartare, how could I say no? It sat on a Fennel Blanc Manger (a custardy disk) with caviar on top. It was divine! Alternating langoustine reduction sauce and passion fruit sauce dotted the circular plate. It was beautiful, refreshing, and rich all at the same time.

The fiancee went with the Wagyu Beef and Foie Gras 'Damier' was incredible. Alternating squares of wagyu beef tartare and foie gras made a decadent and rich checkerboard! The fiancee thought the foie gras was a bit rich, but not me! Together, the marbling of the beef along with the foie gras was out of this world.

For course 2, the fiancee had the Tempranillio RIsotto with Crispy Duck Breast, yum! I went with the Long Island Duck and Foie Gras Ravioli with a Burgundy Truffle Fumet, also delicious.

For course 3, the finacee had the Thomas Farm Rack of Lamb. It was unlike any rack of lamb I've eaten as it was off the bone and then stuffed with Marguez sausage. Let me just say though that it was fantastic!

I went with the Chorizo-Crusted Cod with a white coco bean puree. Oh man, this was delicious. Somehow they managed to get a thin layer of chorizo on the cod that crisped up just enough, lending a subtle flavor to the dish.

For dessert, the fiancee went with the Caramel Parfait (Mango Ravioli, Coconut-Lemongrass Tapioca, and Ten Flavor Sorbet). It was right up his alley. As for me, I went with a new dish that I can't recall at the moment, but it had apples in it and it was divine!

So after that we thought it was time to head home, but oh no, they rolled out a dessert tray. Our server explained the various treats, and then we were able to pick as many of those delights as we wanted. The higlights were the earl gray dark chocolate truffle and the passion fruit and chocolate macaron. Best macaron of my life! Ooh, the mexican cocoa dusted marshmallow was pretty good too!

So then, we were so full but out comes our server with 2 cherry tuile cones with a scoop of maple cherry ice cream. Let me tell you, it was the perfect end to an amazing meal.

On top of that, they gave us a little box to take home. When we got back to the hotel, we found 3 caramel topped cubes inside. They were cake-like treats. Just another reason why The Modern experience was the creme de la creme!

Dahlia Lounge

So I've always been a fan of the Dahlia Lounge for a nice dinner, but we hadn't tried brunch before. We had a $100 gift card to spend and had no food in the house for breakfast, so the other Saturday we decided to head over to Dahlia Lounge for brunch. This was an excellent decision.

Amazing cocktails to start. I went with an elderberry infused vodka cocktail kind of like a souped up lemon drop and the boy had the French Toast Manhattan (?). My cocktail was definitely tasty, but his was otherworldly! I only smelled it as I'm not a bourbon girl, but somehow they managed to make a delicious Manhattan that smells and finishes like French toast garnished with a crispy strip of bacon. It was what a breakfast cocktail should be.

As for the food, we of course had to have a crab cake to share (the best in Seattle, hands down). The boy went with seasonal omelet. It was amazing, fluffy egg enveloped some kale and mozzarella with san marzano tomatoes on top. It also came with a meat of choice, he went with the smoked pork chop. Oh man, it was incredible. It's definitely the way to go (although we did order the house made pork sausage on the side, and that was good as well).

I went with the biscuits and gravy with two poaches eggs on top. Wowee! It was a bacon gravy that by itself may have been a bit heavy, but with the yolk from the eggs mixed in it was perfect!

Both breakfasts came with parmesan potatoes, yum (especially tasty mixed with the country gravy)!

And to top it all off, the service was top notch!

All in all, it's definitely a place I'd go if I wanted to splurge for brunch!!

Fun times, for sure! Loved the Segura Viduas! The Japonessa staff were outstanding (per usual)!! And the food, mmm! I'm a Japonessa fan already, but I hadn't had their Seattle roll, calamari, yellow tail nigiri, poke, or garlic short ribs (my +1 and I scored a prime seat to catch bites as the servers walked by). I was thoroughly impressed by each of those. And of course, the super bad boy roll was amazing!

Oh, and definite high five to the awesome "P" costumes. "Pregnant" costume was the best with pastrami sandwich a close 2nd! Thanks, Katy H and Yelp!

I'mma keep this one short. Super bad boy roll (I die!), takoyaki (one of the best in Seattle), spicy tuna roll, seattle roll (crab on top, what?), $5 wine/bubbly, garlic short ribs (Korean style kalbi) and the best lychee martini EVAR.

One of the best happy hours downtown for sure. I only wish I worked downtown to stop here for lunch!

The tempura is good but doesn't really hold a candle to the items above. Also, I'd pass on the miso soup.

I thoroughly enjoy Elliott's Oyster House! They've got a great happy hour, and I really wish I could take advantage of their progressive oystery HH more often.

The fiancee and I just went there on Saturday for Oyster New Year (I won tix on Facebook), and it was an amazing event.

This is definitely a place I go to whenever I've got out of town guests! Keep it up! :)

I've been here twice, and it has been fantastic on both visits! The bouillabaisse is where it's at! Great quality clams and mussels along with a huge dollop of lump crab meat, some fish (salmon this time), and shrimp. I've read that some found it bland, but I thought it was perfectly seasoned!

We had a lovely bottle of Beaujolais to go along with your meal. The two desserts I've had are fantastic. This time I had the Framboisine Verrine (dark chocolate mouse, raspberries, and vanilla custard), which was delicious but quite rich. I had the creme brulee last time, and it was one of the best I've ever had (simple, but incredibly tasty).

And the view is amazing. We had a table right next to the window. Definitely on my short list of go-to places!

Great happy hour drinks (white sangria - $4 and mojito - $5.50 for me, please) and tasty happy hour bites (we tried the albondigas, gachas de ajo, spanish coca). Ooh, and the El Diablo for dessert is a must!

Happy Hour all night Tuesday to boot!
