Theere were a couple of highlights for the evening. One was how well they handled the 1 1/2 year-old we had with us. She was being a typical, boisterous girl but they handled it well and even had some fun with her. Second was their desserts. Since it was my birthday, we decided to go all out and throw down for some cobbler. The little bits of yumminess came in their own individual ramekins and were actually very, very good. So, two stars for decent food and good service. I might go back but it would be low on my list of places to return to.
The second time around, service was much better. This time, my guest and I's eyes were definitely much bigger than our stomachs. I was really in the mood for some fish so I got some nigiri and a roll. Both were prepared as expected by there descriptions with ample ingredients and no strange additions like too much sauce or unnecessary garnish. She got a stir fried Chicken Tappenyaki that was huge! Plus, we got a surprise roll for spending more than $30 and shared that. Most of her dish ended up going home with her.
All in all, this is a good Japanese place for me. They redeemed themselves on their service and the food has been consistently good. 3stars.

Wonderful Chinese Restaurant
Category: Chinese
We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food! As expected, the prices were pretty cheap but the portions were a reasonable size and the food was not too greasy or gooey. We both enjoyed the hot tea which was cheap Chinese place standard black tea, and our dinner included hot & sour soup that was just the right combination of both. She ordered the sweet and sour pork. It came out with big pieces of pork and crunchy carrot, bell pepper and onion pieces. It had just enough sauce and was appropriately sweet. My cashew chicken had plenty of pieces of good chicken, lots of vegetables and lots of cashews. It's funny that I just read about the crappy service. One of the highlights of our night was the service. It was attentive and one of the employees (who had obviously worked there awhile) was walking around and helping any table that needed it by filling water, taking orders and giving each table their own share of heckling. She was hilarious!
So, I am going to give this place three stars for good food, fun and attentive service and really good value. Definitely stop by if you're in the 'hood.

There are a few reasons I really like this place. Let's stars with the staff and service. They are always super friendly, quick to greet customers and bring your food to your table. Not bad for a semi fast food restaurant. Also, Plaza Jalisco is family owned. Mom, sons and cousins run everything from the front to the kitchen. The mom and her oldest son are consistently good about walking around and making sure everything is OK.
Next is the important part, food! My litmus test for any Mexican place is the carnitas. Good pork carnitas are crunchy on the outside, moist, spicy and yummy on the inside. Let me say unequivocally that these are some of the best carnitas in Sacramento!!! I've had carnitas everywhere from Zocalo to Tres Hermanas to the La Fiesta/Favorita chains. None of them hold a candle to Plaza Jalisco. The beans and rice are fresh and not from a can. The salsa bar is well stocked, tasty and (unlike many) clean. I've also had the sopes and tacos here. Both were very good.
Overall, this is a great place to grab lunch or a quick dinner if you are in the area. Definitely worth the drive every so often. This is the kind of restaurant that I would love to see survive and REALLY wish was closer to my 'hood. You know I am usually pretty stingy with my ratings and would like to givea rating of three and a half stars. Usually that would be a three on Yelp but Plaza Jalisco deserves a four and some more notice. Four stars for being small, family run, having great food and definitely deserving some notice.
