Coco's Family Restaurant

Recently visited this Coco's on a Wednesday night -- don't think we'll be going back.  We were seated within 5 minutes, we thought "Great, they're not too busy".  WRONG!  They were obviously short-staffed or something, as we witnessed our waitress running all over the dining area serving people.  My husband was satisfied with his turkey sandwich, but me (on the never-ending-quest for the Perfect Hamburger) was less than satisfied with their new "Angus Prime" burger.  The hamburger meat was so chewy and pre-formed, I could hardly eat it, and hardly worth the 45 minute wait for the food after we ordered.  I got the "Onion ring/BBQ Sauce" version, and it had the teeniest little dab of BBQ Sauce on there that I had ever seen.   The only good thing were the "Mozzarella Wedges" we had as an appetizer.    I felt so bad for the waitress, she was very obviously overworked.

Final note:  Don't think we'll be going back here, unless we're desperate.

In-N-Out Burger

What else can be said about In-n-Out that hasn't already been said?  I'm a transplant to So Cal, and since I first moved here, INO has been at the top of my Yummy Burger List.

I like the Laguna Niguel location, too, it's near the other big shopping centers, but not in a crowded parking lot.  The workers there are especially nice and friendly.  They recently made a mistake on my order (gave me a Vanilla shake, instead of a Chocolate one) and when I went inside to exchange it, they gave me my $$ back without me even asking.  That's service!  The drive-thru line can snake around the building and be especially slow if you hit it during lunch time or right after school lets out.

Final note:  Always a classic!

Fatburger

We went here because we had a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for their burgers.  I LOVE me a good burger, and Fat Burger is now on my list of yumminess!  They have a big list of what comes on the burger, and what you can add or subtract.  Both our burgers came out 100% accurate despite our complicated order and me changing my mind a few times (the poor cashier).  The hamburger was juicy and cooked perfectly.  I wish I had left off the relish - normally I like relish but just wasn't in the mood for it that day.  Seemed to be a little pricey - especially once you start adding on the extras on your burger.  The fat fries were especially good, too.

Final thought:  Doesn't replace In-n-Out at the top of my burger list, but it's a good alternative.

This is the first restaurant we choose to eat at after moving to Aliso Viejo.  We were disappointed.  We were expecting a place more like Carl Strauss or similar brewery's ... boy were we wrong.  We went on a Tuesday night around 7:40 pm, when we got there we were informed that the main dining room closed at 8:00.  We were offered a seat in the (very raucous, hopping) bar, which we declined because we had our sleeping 4 month old son with us.  They reluctantly sat us in the dining room where we waited.  And waited.  And waited.  We were literally the ONLY people in the dining area.  Finally our waiter came and offered us menus.  My husband asked if he could change the TV to the Ducks game since there was no one else in the restaurant, we didn't think it would be a problem.  Don't know why - but it never got changed, after asking twice.  They had a very expansive menu, almost too much to look at.  We both had burgers and beers, the beer was good but my burger was almost burnt - despite being asked for medium-well.  We asked for some Ranch for our fries - it came about 15 minutes later after the fries were cold.  Long stretches of time would pass before we would see our waiter again.  Everyone seemed to be focusing on the bar area - where we found out they were having a "Taco Tuesday" special which explains why it was so crowded.  We finally got our bill and left.  Speaking of the bill - it seemed overpriced for what we got.

Final note:  Don't think we'll be back, unless we decide to try the Taco Tuesday.  But because of the level of food and attentiveness we received, probably not.  Gave it 2 stars because it's in a good location within the Aliso Viejo Town Center (by the movie theater).
