gotta love a place who's entire menu is on the sign out front. Beef and Keg and that's it.

This is THE place to go in the northtowns for the classic, only to be found within 20 miles of The Broadvay (sic)Market, ROAST BEEF ON KIMMELWECK ROLL SANDWICH.

This is where I was born!

No really, see that map on the right?

Brockett Drive is just off to the lower left corner across from Twyla Place. Hi Mom!

Ask them to cook a foot long an extra minute or so so it's really crisp. Chili sauce, Weber's mustard, and pickle slice for me. Fries and a loganberry. That's how I roll.

Now it's time to pretend you just came straight home from the airport!

Used to go here in the late 80's to meet my mafia goombody for some primo pasta fazool. At the time the hood didn't seem so bad to this Irish boy, but it was so close to my home turf, maybe I didn't notice. Sorry to hear that it is getting dicey. Classic place none the less, small, clean, like someone's front parlor. Rich Products, Lake Erie, Niagara St., sand flies, the 190, I'm on the Peace Bridge and on my way to Crystal Beach fer god sakes...

Pink's Hot Dog

Don't get me started on hot dogs now...

pump those brakes boy.

Pink's is not good. There is no snap. The gawd awful Dodger Dog is better. The problem here is that there is not a real hot dog made west of the NY/PENNA state line! Actually the old Cleveland Stadium used to serve a decent ballpark style dog w/ a local mustard that wasn't bad. I'm talkin' the actual product itself as it comes from the packing plant. This includes the vastly overrated "Chicago" hot dog, of which I've scouted out many a time.

The people who rave about their product have never been within 3000 miles of a real hot dog. It's not their fault.

Burying your soggy sorry dog in all way too many different toppings topped way too high cannot hide the fact that the core ingredient is poor and poorly prepared. Go to Pink's for that if you wish.

Please see Jason W. below for example, half a pound of bacon plus chili...??? on a tortilla?? Get a real dog, dude.

Attend my next "Buffalo Dog" cook out, slather on the Weber's Mustard and Hot Green Picalilly Sauce and...

I better stop now.

An ode to my old 'hood. If you're in Chicago get off the Red Line @ Division Street and check the Rush/ Division area. Walk over to the lake. (Michigan, that is) Great views of the Hancock tower from here, you're just far away enough and it still pops up here and there and looks scary HUGE!. This is the Gold Coast neighborhood.

I remember House of Beers had a beer menu that listed Genesee Beer from Buffalo/ Rochester NY!!?? We wouldn't buy that stuff when they were givin' it away, and here it is at a Rush St. "brew pub" thingie.

My Super Bowl party '95 is still legend on Division/ State St. One of my "guests" got kicked out of the same bar 3 times in one night. No one was hurt ... much. Are you Squalli? You're outta here! (And take your SabreJak with you!)

I've been told that this street has a Nawlins Bourbon St. type feel to it. I'll take their word for it. Must be the "well worn" sidewalks. It only lasts for a block or so. I remember coming off the EL from O'Hare  on a crisp New Year's morn' and wondering what the HELL must've just happened here?!!

Will never forget my first drive into the area diving off North St. @ Lincoln Park onto N. Dearborn and saying to meself "must... live... here" in a Homer voice.

Taxis are sooo thick here-- take one. And tip huge.

For what I need this place for, it couldn't be more perfect. What I need: A surprise stop on the way out of the farmer's market to duck out of the heat and have a primo blended margarita and watch a ball game and check the "Hollywood" type scene.

What I don't need: Fako- blendo Mexican food. Folks, the food here is BA RU DAL! Stick with the chips and salsa. BTW I'm not really in to the "pico de gallo" style salsa but it's the only choice here.

I agree that the thread on this place involving all the pretty boys employed is VERY humorous. It's one of the first things you notice when you walk in the place. I'm sure Leo DiCaprio was bussing tables here back in the day. Please people, if your waiter has that far away green grey blue eye look, don't expect him to be able to recommend which fajita or taquito or whatever to you. He's got bigger tamales to fry! Just be thankful that the chips and salsa get refreshed multiple times.

I very much enjoy the decor of this place. Kinda southwestern rustic. Distressed (I'm sure in more ways than one!) wood floors. Nicely framed oversized vintage photos, and the back door, parking lot area with the vines.

At night this place is simply TOO crowded and is without question THE LOUDEST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN. Seems that it's so loud that they have to TURN THE MUSIC UP LOUDER SO YOU CAN HEAR IT BETTER!. Then you have to simply TALK LOUDER FROM LIKE 4 INCHES AWAY AND SAY "WHAT!!??" ALOT. I don't go here at night anymore.

On the sentimental side, looking back to when I was fresh offa Route 66 and still hadn't cashed my first Cali pay check, this was the first joint I cased as I walked around my new 'hood. A star for that alone.

Located in one of SoCal's premier "Americana" type neighborhoods, Magnolia Park, is this incredible little 1950's grocery store.

Produce: limited by size but all there and quality superb.

Meat dept: Best in LA.

Say hi to the Burbank firemen or the local cheerleaders, the neighborhood vibe here is almost out of a David Lynch movie, but it's real!

Saturdays they fire up the barbecue in the parking lot and you can smell it all the way down to Hollywood Way.

Good weeknight pub grub spot.

Good weekend afternoon football spot too!

Sometimes a lot crowded at night, but if you can get a seat at the bar in front of the big screen, order the "JD wings", they're not on the menu, but the cook, who has been there for years, will serve up the best Buffalo hot wing this side of the Southern Tier Expressway!

The late great Roscoe Lee Browne was an every nighter here when I first arrived on the scene in 98. Also "Taggert" from Beverly Hills Cop. Good mix of locals, scenesters, studio folk... Keanu Reeves walked in and sat next to me once here... he looked homeless.. acted harmless.. cool dude

rock the juke box, have a drink and enjoy the wonder that is Toluca Lake CA...
