My Last Meal On EarthFogo de Chao
"Did they know you had a coupon?" my friend wondered aloud as they pushed a plate of plantains at us. The staff offered dessert and we said we'd like more of the entree. Then the standoff ensued while we waited at an empty table while the waiters continued to serve nearby tables. How long could we wait for more service as our glasses sat empty and the check loomed on the corner of the stained tablecloth?
Angus Grill offered a lot of vouchers on just about every daily deal site in the city and I probably should have taken that as a signal that business was hurting. After dining there on a discount, I still felt like I'd paid too much and was disappointed that I'd wasted money I could have used toward a meal at the real deal, Fogo.
Compared to Fogo (or pretty much any place I've EVER eaten), the service was terrible, the food was lackluster, and the ambiance left something to be desired. Mismatched glasses, chairs and flatware aren't quaint when you're supposed to be in a fine dining establishment, they're just cheap looking.
And I cannot stress enough how bad the service was from seating to payment of the check. Everything was so slow coming to the table, we had only had a few scraps of meat when the check was placed on our table and the staff ignored our requests for more food and drink. It was embarrassing to have to ask for more food at a full service 'all you can eat' establishment where the cards turned to green are the signal for service. You aren't supposed to leave hungry (heck, a trip to Fogo means not thinking about food again for at least a day) but we went out for ice cream after the meal to sate our hunger.
I was so shocked and embarrassed when the manager on the floor came to review my Groupon at the table with the waitress after talking outside of the kitchen and pointing toward us. I couldn't even look at him while he harassed me about the validity of the coupon I'd used (for which the waitress made me write the number on the check because she was busy). I was treated like a thief and was served like a beggar.
I will never enter this restaurant again regardless of what kind of deals I see for them in the future. But this will go down as one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had and I will make sure to let everyone know about it.
