My Favorite MovieFalling Down
Whenever I talk to my friends or family about what the "best" fast food joint is, they almost always say In-N-Out. And I never know why - because El Pollo Loco is clearly superior to anything that In-N-Out has to offer.
The food is always fresh, the ingredients delicious, and all of the workers at this branch run a very clean establishment.
When I'm in the mood for a quick meal in Hesperia, El Pollo Loco is always my first choice.

Best Buy

Most of my friends are big fans of the local Best Buy - and I have no idea why. Yeah, Best Buy's prices are usually pretty decent on most things, and they do have a decent selection (hence the 2 star rating), but everything else at the Victorville branch is pretty much crap.
To start with, I hate the layout of the store. It is just about impossible to find anything quickly or without the help of someone on staff.
Secondly, the store is only marginally clean. Circuit City wins hands down for cleanliness in all areas.
Finally, the lines are way too damn long. They really need to hire more cashiers. And don't even think about returning something - your time is likely more valuable than whatever it is that you want to take back.

Circuit City - CLOSED

Now normally I buy my electronics online because the prices are so much better. But there comes a time when I must venture to a local electronics retailer, and Circuit City is always my retailer of choice. Helpful employees can be found in every section - except the TV area. A couple of the sales reps over there are pretty dumbfounded if asked about the products they are selling - but all of the other employees are fantastic.
Also, the store is pretty new, and it looks it. Praise goes to the staff for running a clean shop despite the volume of people passing though each day.

I've purchased a couple of beds here, and both have been great. Fantastic and friendly salespeople, quick delivery - what more could you want from a bed store. Oh, and Banner has highly competitive prices too with other stores in the High Desert.

Red Robin America's Gourmet Burgers & Spirits

Not Bad, But Try Something Else
This is another one of those restaurants that I used to visit on a regular basis. However, everything that applied to my review of the Olive Garden applies here as well. There are just better places in the same area. Places where the food is more flavorful, the service is friendlier, and the prices are similar.
Now, I normally like the food at Red Robin restaurants, but I had to dock a couple of stars for the last meal I had at this particular branch. The burger was undercooked and still rather pink the in middle and the waitress got my friend's order completely wrong.
While the mistakes would normally be forgivable anywhere else, with more competition in the Mall area, Red Robin really has to step up its game. Needless to say, I don't plan on eating at this Red Robin again when there are newer, better burger joints nearby.

Olive Garden Italian Restaurant

Another Decent Chain in the High Desert
I used to come here a lot when it first opened so many years ago, but now that there are so many other places to eat near the Mall of Victor Valley, Olive Garden has gone by the wayside.
It's a chain, so the food here is what you would expect from any self respecting chain restaurant - run of the mill food that will fill you up for a pretty decent price. The service is good, the restaurant is clean, and there's a great chance that you'll get a good meal, but that's about it. Nothing particularly enjoyable, but nothing that will ruin your evening either.
With so many newer and more interesting restaurants nearby (although they are chains as well), you may as well try something other than the Olive Garden unless you are dying for some pasta.
If I'm going to an Olive Garden, I'd much rather go to the one in Westwood. At least that branch has a decent view of something other than the freeway.

Now this is a grocery store.
I've been to quite a few grocery stores, and nearly all of the markets in the High Desert, and this Vons is my favorite. They carry a good selection of food inside of a massive store, so expect to get plenty of exercise during your shopping runs. Don't worry though, you can always refresh yourself with a Starbucks, some sushi (I wouldn't try it if I were you) or some Panda Express right in the middle of the store. This is the place to get your groceries if you live in the area.

Yep, it's a grocery store. They carry food here.
Vons on Main Street is a pretty decent place to pick up some groceries. They seem to carry stuff that Albertson's doesn't, as I can usually find stuff here that I couldn't find down the street. The service here is good and friendly, but the store could use a renovation and a hefty scrubbing.
If you want to shop at a really good Vons grocery store, head down to Bear Valley and visit the massive Vons Pavilion.

Decent Meal with a Huge Wait Time
People in the High Desert seem to have some kind of fixation with La Casita that I just don't understand. After having eaten here a couple of times, I can tell you that I won't be going back - there are far too many other good places to eat where I would much rather spend my money.
Now, let me be clear about La Casita. The food here is not bad, but not really good either. Somewhere in between and certainly not memorable. Despite the marginal tastiness of the food, the line is almost always out the door and around the corner with horrible wait times. Don't come here hungry or you could starve to death by the time you are seated.
Pros:
Cheap food with big portions
Cons:
Nothing special as far as Mexican food is concerned
Long wait times

That being said, I'm not normally a fan of In-N-Out, but this branch always has great food and is well worth a visit if you're on your way to Nevada.
