This particular motel was used as a basis for testing out the concept of Motel 6 for business travel. So unlike your typical Motel 6, my room had fake hardwood floors, more modern furniture (think IKEA), and a flat screen TV.
Check-in took a little longer than I'd have liked - not unusual since everyone who uses the shuttle to get here arrive en masse, so be patient. It really would be nice if they had a bathroom in the lobby while you're waiting to check in - I didn't see one.
I've stayed here twice now, and I won't hesitate to do so again.

Check-in was a breeze. The room was huge, with lots of space. Having a refrigerator in the room is great if you like to bring your own drinks (instead of paying outrageous vendor machine prices). The complimentary breakfast was surprisingly good - hot scrambled eggs, bagels and bacon.
Next time I have to overnight at LAX, this will be my top choice. Show owner comment »

I've been coming here off and on for the better part of 8 years. If I have guests in town and want to impress them, this is the place to go. You are right on the water, so the views are superb. During cooler nights, they light several outdoor fire pits so you can sit outside and enjoy the stars above while listening to the waves lap against the beach.
THE BAR: Great place for appetizers and drinks, if you don't mind shelling out $$$. Average cost is in $10-$15 range. I personally can't stand the guy who roams around the bar at happy hour, strumming the guitar and looking hopeful for tips. I do love the ahi ahi and the calamari; the salmon topped pizza is superb. I do miss their past Sunday brunches, though - the seafood selection at brunch was amazingly good at the time.
THE RESTAURANT: Pricey for sure, but you're paying for the view and the privilege of being in the midst of property surrounded by millionaire and celebrity owners, what do you expect? Service is usually top notch, in my experience. I've had different dishes here, but the bison burger was one of my most memorable dishes - juicy, fat, and full of flavor.

David Walley's Resort Hot Springs

Now THIS is a resort! There are numerous pools throughout the property with different temperatures, so you can hop from one to another depending on what you prefer. The pools and grounds are immaculate and very well-maintained, with plenty of clean chairs and lounging available The views around the hot springs are gorgeous - the wide open valley embraced by pristine mountains. Aaaahhh.
The bathrooms are large and clean. My favorite amenity they offered was a spining machine that lets your swimsuit wring out most of the moisture - no schlepping home soaking wet bathing suits!
This is not one of those AU NATUREL hot springs - so no creepers here.
I was lucky and didn't have anyone approach me about time-share opportunities, though I don't know why they would chase after locals who can come here anytime they want.
In order to allow nudity (I mean, clothing-optional activities), this places charges a membership fee. It's not much, $5 for a month, plus the cost of an all-day entry fee ($20).
The set-up is quite nice, set back into the woods. If you're lucky and it's not too crowded, the silence, punctuated by birdsong, is part of the beautiful experience here. I always meant to try one of the neat little bathtubs they have tucked away in the woods, but I haven't had the chance yet.
On the weekends, it does tend to get crowded and you'll see a lot more kids around. There's the occasional creeper who stares, but for the most part, people are quite respectful. Yes, you're going to see bodies of all genders, ages, sizes and shapes, hairy and shaved - but that's what real life is about. Not every woman is 5'10", 115 pounds, with silicone implants. Not every man has washboard abs. But I think I'd probably feel MORE uncomfortable if everyone was like that.
I enjoyed the hot springs inside the geodesic dome - but come prepared - Don't Wear Your Jewelry! I had a ring that was hopelessly ruined by the minerals in the water. It wasn't an expensive ring, but I liked it and can no longer wear it.
However, if you are looking for a simple, relaxing day at a hot springs without paying an arm and a leg, this is it. It's basically an outdoor pool with a large tube that feeds the hot springs. They provide very minimum basic pool toys like noodles. Nothing fancy, nothing to oooh at.
The bathrooms are bare bones and you share changing quarters with everyone else. If it's not too cold out, you can cool off by lounging on the first-come, first-served chairs provided around the pool.
For a little bit more, you can also get your own private room with a smaller hot tub.
I'm not sure if they still do this, but there's a little divey bar next door, and in the past, you could order food to be delivered to you poolside.

Saturday night we were here to see English Beat in concert at Breezes - it was amazing to see such a great band in a small venue like this. We were literally just three or four feet away from the band and the small dance floor was filled with happy, dancing people. I can't imagine being in any other venue where you can get so close to the band.
On the skank side, you're also going to get up close and personal with the 200 other people on the dance floor - by the end of the night, the place smelled like sweaty armpits, stale cigarette smoke and spilled beer. Well, actually I smelled like sweaty armpits, stale cigarette smoke and spilled beer. A small price to pay for a great evening out.

Asian Noodles Too
Categories: Vietnamese, Chinese
A few weeks ago, I ordered a $7.95 lunch special to go - spicy Mongolian beef with fried rice. It also came with 2 fried chicken wings. Strange but I'll take them. The beef dish with the rice was absolutely delicious! I was stoked. The wings, though crispy, were completely devoid of any flavor.
However, I have since ordered the same dish for lunch twice, while dining in. If you eat in, the same lunch special gives you a bonus - a cup of hot and sour soup, which I think is always too salty, but nice and hot. But I noticed the last few times that I've ordered the same dish some subtle changes - most notably the change in the vegetable variety. No more broccoli? Bigger chunks of scallions and onions to make up for the absence of the more expensive vegetables?
And of deeper concern, the Vietnamese staff have disappeared. Hmmmmm....

Incline Village - a town with three stop lights and not a whole lot of diverse choices for restaurants. So it was a great thrill to learn that Asian Noodles, one of the more popular Vietnamese restaurants in Reno (located in the Costco shopping plaza), was taking a chance to open up a branch in North Lake Tahoe.
Yesterday was their first day open, so I dutifully trooped in there with a couple of friends to welcome them to town. Service was great. Kim, our waitress, was adorable. The guy who clears tables accidentally took away my friend's beer bottle, which was still a quarter full. They cheerfully replaced it with a full bottle at no charge.
The food was good, not great, but decent. A big tasty bowl of pho for less than $7. Not the best I've ever had, but good enough. Excellent Vietnamese spring rolls, freshly made.
I'm giving them four stars for the service and for adding a bit of diversity to Incline's otherwise lackluster choices for international cuisine. I highly recommend that they cater to locals in town, not just tourists. It's the ony way to survive around here (and believe me, I've seen restaurants come and go here).
We were ushered into a private dining room (something we forgot to ask for, but appreciated), and then we just ordered a huge variety of dishes, both already cooked and others to cook on the big old grills in front of us. The kids had a great time watching the food cook in front of us, and even though they may not have been familiar with Korean spices, they ate everything in sight. In fact, after gorging ourselves, we all sat back and realized that barely a morself of meat or vegetable was left on the table.
Service was very attentive, and though their English wasn't perfect, the waitresses managed to explain everything we needed to know and take great care of us.
A fun get-together!

The location is perfect - an easy taxi ride anywhere in town. Very tranquil, Asian-inspired garden, complete with fountains and lush greenery.
The room was delightful - high end bathroom amenities, very polished and serene. I could have stayed ensconced in the bed for days - one of the most comfortable beds I've ever stayed in.
The staff were very helpful with everything from restaurant recommendations to directions on how to walk to the Promenade and beach.
I loved being carted around by their English taxi - free to nearby destinations. What a treat!
