What can I say about the owner and her salon except that I have followed her from her original location to the salon she currently resides at. If that's not enough of a compliment, than I don't know what is.

The salon is small and unassuming but please don't be fooled by that. My hair looks BETTER after I come out of this salon than when I have had it done in Beverly Hills by my school and for a fraction of the cost. They are skilled in color, hair extensions (yes, even us without a money tree to pay for luscious hair can still afford them!), Brazilian treatments and cuts and styling. Oh, and most importantly, everyone who works there LISTENS to you about how you want your hair done so you are happy when you walk out beautiful. Seriously, really niceand skilled hairdressers!

I can't recommend this salon enough.

Hands down I recommend going here. Once you do you will truly be happy you did. I have been going to here for almost 2 years and wouldn't go anywhere else.

DO NOT SHOP HERE.

I am thoroughly disgusted by the manager who accused me of shop lifting - as IF....

I bought a pair of DKNY discounted flats that I was going to wear for my recent trip to New York with my future in laws this fall. Went to return them to get another color and brought them in in the original bag with no receipt although the reciept was at home. No one asked me to leave them at the front counter so I brought them with me and put them by the chair as I was trying on the other color shoe of the same brand.

When I got to the front desk the manager asked for my receipt and I told him I didn't have it but I shopped there all the time and to please check my credit card b/c I had bought the shoes last week and the sale was present in the register. He REFUSED. He asked me who I bought them from and I told him. He proceeded to call that sales girl up to confirm my sale - which she did. Then he drilled her and made her promise to take the heat if she was wrong - so she was then scared to vouch for me.

Next, he goes back and counts the DKNY shoes and proclaims that one is missing and says he's gonna review the video tapes. This is all infront of other customers. I told him that I would NOT take this personally because he was wrong and I wouldnt get upset at this behavior. He tells me that I basically stole the shoes. At this point I told him I would not do business in the store again and go to take my shoes and he grabs them out of my hand. I was so furious.

I called the cops and went home and got my receipt. When I went back to the store the owner wouldn't let me back in. The cops brought my receipt back in and the manager told them (before the cops had a chance to show him my receipt) that he saw me bring in an empty bag and put the shoes in there!! Asshole! Then the cops got my money back and brought it out to me and told me the manager said I was never welcome in the store again. The cops did nothing to rectify the situation. Figures that's L.A. for you.

I did NOTHING wrong. Do yourself a favor and BOYCOTT this f-cking lousy ass business. The manager is an ignorant son of a bitch and I will never shop in there again.

P.S. I have plenty of money to buy at Nordstrom. You get what you pay for. I will never buy from an ignorant person again.

This hotel sucks.

First of all, they comped my friends 4 rooms because they are gamblers so we gave up our room which we booked on line for a decent rate and took one of theirs (that was cool of them). When we got to the hotel we upgraded and stayed in a suite because unfortunately I had to study and didn't want to be cramped in a one room hotel room if I was gonna be holed up most of the weekend.

I called down to the front desk for a lamp for the dining room table. They transferred me to housekeeping who said they would bring it up. I waited 1 hour - no answer so I called again. This time I asked for an extension cord for the existing lamp. "No, we can't give you that and we don't have one anyway." So I called the front desk. Waited another hour as time went by and no real studying getting done. Finally I saw a housekeeper in the hall who brought me a lamp.

I started studying and put a "Do not disturb" sign on the door but the maids came in anyway and kept interrupting me...very annoying and kept breaking my concentration. When I told her to leave she kept cleaning my bathroom and I had to have the head maid speak to her in spanish!

Then I ordered room service which was brought incorrectly and also waited for it for over 1 hour.  By the time it was brought up correctly it was over 2 hours from the time I initially ordered it plus they had to come in 4 times  (which interrupted my studying again).  Now I was truly annoyed.

When we checked out the bill came. They charged us full room price PLUS upgrade. I asked at the VIP lounge where we were "supposed" to be preferred guests why this was so - no answer. So I called the man who made our friends reservation with and he said our friends didn't gamble enough to even have THEIR rooms comped and our rooms weren't covered, only 2 of the 4 rooms. So, we wound up paying full rate ( not the rate we signed up for on line) plus upgrade for a crappy suite with beds that sucked and a room that looked like it was out of the 80's. So we decided to pay for it out of the company card. So we asked them to change the name on the bill to ours since they kept calling up Mr. and Mrs. Friedman all weekend (which was our FRIENDS name). The VIP Lounge said it couldn't and we would have to speak to a supervisor....WTF? You are the VIP Lounge, do something you f%&*&$& stupid people. So I wound up calling a manager who gave them "permission" to change it... In the end the VIP didn't even offer to do anything nice for us when they saw we were upset to make us want to come back - figures.

With all the money we spent on our "comped rooms" we could have stayed at Mandalay Bay and been treated much better and I made sure I told them so. Eh, you get what you pay for.

My stay at Jade was excellent. The staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating after my surgery.  They were extremely professional and discreet so I didn't have to use the front of the hotel to get to my room which was really helpful. Even when we left we were able to take a separate entrance out.

The surroundings are very peaceful and relaxing. Jade Healing Retreat occupies one whole floor of the Palomar Hotel. Each room has every amenity you could ask for but it's even more private since the purpose is to recover, which was the staff's main focus towards me. Everything is taken care of: food, medications, monitoring vitals etc. This was especially helpful after I had surgery and it was difficult to concentrate on anything let along take care of myself.

The most important thing I can say is that the entire staff was very sensitive to my recovery and I could not have appreciated it more.  Thanks very much for a very healing stay and a great staff.

When I called to find out about a property we were thinking about renting for the weekend this business never returned my call after telling me they would e-mail me details of the property plus any other properties in the area.  It's my fiance's birthday and time is of the essence to rent so I needed them to get back to me right away in case we had to make other arrangements.  They never did.

When I called them this morning the gentleman I spoke to said he didn't have any properties. But when I asked him why he never returned my call he said he was returning it NOW. No, I said I had to call you this morning to get an answer. Then he told me the reason he never called back was because it was rented. I told him I would have appreciated atleast phone call back so we could make other arrangements. He didn't seem to care. Then when I asked him if he had other properties available he told me "he wasn't a broker" and said goodbye quickly and rudely.  Funny, you guys have properties to rent and you don't want my business I guess.

Please stay away. They are rude and unhelpful and I won't ever call them again.

I've been to a lot of elite events. More over, I've photographed a lot of them.

This time around there were so many people at the event that I was working! By working I mean my camera never stopped! That was a good thing. People looked just beautiful. Yelpers really clean up nice I have to say.

The theme, James Bond 007 was pretty creative and a cool way to express ourselves. So much eye candy. The Oh Snap photo booth was so much fun. Got to give those guys a huge shout out for the great job they did. People were really pleased with how things came out...tons of props to use and awesome back drop for photos. Really nice people running it...

The food was really good this time around!! Plenty of it (you KNOW us...it takes a lot to feed us lol)!  Loved the cheeses and meats plus all the cold platters. It went well with the drinks.  I ESPECIALLY loved the waitstaff because, as corny as it sounded, they were friendly.  Sometimes, I've been to venues and the people who are running it just suck but the manager was really cool and even let me take background shots of the hotel.  When I went to the W in Westwood, the concierge wouldn't even let me take a picture of their Welcome plaque at the frickin front desk...made me leave even after I got PERMISSION...and was extremely rude to me even though I was a guest. That's why I'm mentioning it.

The venue itself was an awesome place for the event.  This is Hollywood! On Sunset Blvd! I'm not taking it for granted.  Pictures to follow :)

Thanks Dawson for another great event.

Cirque Berzerk Elite Event

Not your typical Elite event and that's good! It was a freak show (kind of) and we like it that way...yes, we do.

The tent was big, the drinks were good and the people were plenty.  It started off beside the big tent under another tent schmoozing, drinking tequila shots and various drinks, plus listening to the cool sounds of the caberet-esq band (with some various opera thrown in there) to get the mood started.  I had no idea was I was in for with Cirque Berserk but knew I was gonna be really pleasantly surprised.

Ok, most of the elite events are fun. You show up, have a few drinks and mingle for a few hours and then suddenly the night is over before you know what happened. This event? It definitely had added elements to it.  After mingling with people I hadn't seen in a while we were led into the tent for the show and off we went...

What an incredible show. Amazing and freaky with lots of macabre and acrobatics. I especially loved the dance and the trapeze done with the woman hanging by the long ribbons - totally rad!! The dark theme really worked in the circus. The theme was of course the underworld and it was played out nicely in the creative acts. It started out with a woman dieing and going into the after world. Loved how it was portrayed. Very artistic and cool. It was a great beginning to the show. The rest of the evening was full of music and various acrobats, midgets, clowns, dancers, fire dancers etc.

I think L.A outdid itself on originality.  Normally I wouldn't have gone out of my way to pay to see a show like this or even known about this but thanks to Yelp we were able to see it!  Great event and made better by the fact that we didn't even have to pay for parking.

Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea

I had heard so many great things about a cup of Joe at Intelligentsia that yesterday, despite my prevailing illness, I ventured out for coffee before going to the doctors!

I had to. After all, do you ignore the words screaming in your head to "go, go go" or finally succumb to what was has been deemed the best cup of espresso in Los Angeles? I did and was glad for it.

It's a pretty non assuming place but spacious as well.  Standing in a solid brick building it feels well established with lots of chairs and tables outside for one to enjoy their drinks and ponder the day ahead.

I went in and ordered my standard nonfat latte.  They didn't have nonfat milk just 2%. Fine but 2% hadn't crossed these lips in a long time.  Now for the drink. Was it good? Yes, very. There was something really good about it. It was just delicious. Thick foam in a pretty pattern and just really dense espresso flavor punctuated by hot milk. Much better than Starbucks.
Oh, and more expensive I might add.

I added a chocolate chip cookie and was off to the Doc's.

After really tasting what 5 stars should be all about I am convinced I am not going to go back to giving those stars unless I am absolutely sure about it!

I have only one thing to say about the brunch I ate this morning - Fucking fantastic. You are a complete idiot if you don't take my advise and go there like tomorrow.

I had 2" thick french toast with marscapone and prunes and it was the best I ever had. Then the BEST bacon. Linden had duck hash with an egg and it was heavenly as well. Also a blood orange mimosa. Talk about decadence. Calories shmalories what the heck is THAT??

The place is cute and rustic. Our server was nice. The food is fantastic.

Lark Cake Shop

Today I was depressed.

What is the perfect thing to do to pick yourself up when you're depressed? Drink! Oh wait - BESIDES that. It's still daylight after all. I was feeling in the mood for something sweet and thought about how good a red velvet cupcake would make me feel at this moment, even for a split second to combat this depression.

I could taste it now. The sour-sweet cream cheese frosting hitting my lips as I bit down into the red, moist cake batter. Then the sweet satisfaction of swallowing. Yes. You will be mine beautiful.

As I was walking out the door to go to Eagle Rock, my neighbor suggested Lark in Los Feliz. Perfect since it was 5:30 (rush hour traffic time and Lark was close by).  So we hopped in his car and went.

It's a really cute place but forget about that. I mean who the f- cares about looks if they can't produce results. This was crunch time after all. hey man, I'm DEPRESSED. I need sweets! Good sweets and now. Not some half assed dry red devils. Ya know? I ordered them plus a small Old Fashioned Ice Box Cake cupcake that was chocolate and loaded with frosting. Also a lemon cupcake for the boy for when I get home (can't deprive him). Kevin also ordered a lemon so we shared that at the store. It was da bomb but nothing compared to the Old fashioned ice box cupcake which I also ate at the store. Ok, don't say anything. I was jonsing.

Anyhow, i haven't eaten the red devil yet but have just tasted the frosting and it's excellent. I'm saving it in case I'm still blue tomorrow. The moral of this story is this place is really good if not a bit pricey ($3.50 per cupcake). But they give plenty of free samples, you can sit and eat your goodies there and it's in lovely Los Feliz. Not bad eh? And really, you'll find NOTHING to complain about here.
