Being that I love plants and can't resist a bargain, this place is a perfect fit. Why pay retail when you can get landscape quality plants for less than 50% of what you would pay at any retail nursery, including the big box stores. So what's the catch? It's a wholesale nursery, they don't stock everything and the inventory is not always nursery "pretty". I've been there 3 or 4 times and have loaded my poor Grand Cherokee to roof each time. Be prepared to have cash when you go, because they don't take credit cards.

I really hope that this the only "bad" review I will have to write. I don't want to write this but did give this store two chances for my business.
When a customer has a question or needs help with something PLEASE try to help the customer! Don't just look at them blankly, mumble something unintelligible and wander off.
Focus on your customer service skills. The 2X that I was there and then went somewhere else (HomeDepot) I spent $350. You lost that money.

I'm Krista M and I'm addicted to hardware stores. I love home projects and usually have 4 or so in the works at any time. From painting and refinishing to landscaping I am always needing a little something to keep the project monkey off my back.
I love this store and it's difficult to find a fault. If it has one it's the lumber selection, it's so paltry as to almost be missed. Also if one were to buy lumber good luck getting it to the checkout stand. You would have to navigate the crowded isles that are full of seasonal merchandise. So spare yourself the hassle and pick up your 2X4's at The HomeDepot.
The Good:The prices are fair, the selection is better than most Ace or True Values. I really never need help finding anything because I'm sure I have the place memorized. If you do need help there is usually someone nearby and they are pretty knowledgeable.

I visited Mission San Gabriel as a child and later as an adult.
To really understand our southern California history a visit to any of our missions is a must. Visiting on a school field trip is entirely different than visiting as an adult. The subtleties and nuances of conquest and subjugation that are lost on a child are more readily absorbed as an adult. The mission is a beautiful place tinged with a little bit of sadness.
The walled courtyard and gardens are beautiful. Recently they have added a few more native plants to the garden and have incorporated them into the historic narrative. The 200+ year old mission grape vine is really impressive. The gift shop is mainly for practicing faithful, it has a nice selection of religious ephemera.

I will begin by stating the obvious about Rainbow Garden Nursery. It's a very beautiful and well stocked nursery. The staff are friendly and helpful. The prices are inline with most nurseries in the area. I can say the above about most of the 5 star nurseries I have visited. But there is something decidedly different about this nursery and its in the details. Placed strategically throughout the nursery are sign boards similar to bulletin boards with detailed helpful information and photos about the plants in that section. The plant pot labels are large and clearly detail the price and plant name, no more stooping to rotate the pot looking for that information. Each plant section is clearly delineated; perennials, annuals, shade etc. The rows and aisles are spacious. The ponds and aviary add a certain ambiance to this well appointed nursery.

This is one of the premiere native plant nurseries in Southern California.
From the moment you walk over the bridge that spans the dry creek you know you are in for a treat. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. If you arrive on a hot day the sycamores offer a pleasant respite. The plants are ordered logically and finding what you are looking for is easy. The selection is good and the quality is great. If you are looking for some bargain plants there always seems to be a few mark-downs up close to the sales office.

If you are into native plants especially native iris this the place to go. Bob is an incredible resource of iris knowledge. Ask Bob about iris and be prepared for a fountain of knowledge. If you are lucky you can even pick up an iris or two that have not been named and nobody else has. That alone is worth the trip.

The little nursery that could! I have watched this nursery blossom from a run down neighborhood nursery with a muddy (or dusty depending on season) back area to beautiful nursery with an extensive display area.
The formerly neglected back area has a meandering path that leads you past beautiful water features and shady pavilions featuring all manner of herbaceous delights.
The owners/employees are very helpful and knowledgeable. Alas the plant selection is good, but not great. More California natives and vegetable starts would go along way toward pushing this to 5 stars.

This place is a must when I'm travelling up the coast. I either stop in on my way to Santa Barbara or when I'm coming back from all parts north. I love the botanical garden area, it's very inspiring and perhaps that inspiration makes my wallet a little lighter.
The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The plant selection is great. I'm not that into succulents but they have some really eye catching ones, so the last time I was there I picked up a few, OK maybe more than just a few!
The prices are a little higher than average, but the plant quality is great.
I look forward to my next trip north so that I can stop in for a visit.

Armstrong is a good solid nursery. Yes, true the staff is not as engaging as you would hope especially if you have a question or need help finding something. I've been gardening for years and I have pretty much memorized all the nurseries in the area so to have somebody interrupt me while I'm a huntin' is a little distracting. If you have a question you have to be a little more proactive here. You will find that they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
The plant selection is great; it's a well thought out assortment based on what sells, a little of this, a little of that. Good quality plant stock with an excellent seasonal display. They are really good at merchandising and it shows. The end of season sale in the fall is not to be missed.
