Current CrushCerys Matthews....points if you have any idea who that is.
1.) He slew the old Deli Manager in a duel...thus becoming him by proxy
2.) The last dying wish of his best friend was "Jim...whatever happens to me...you gotta be the Deli Manager
3.) For committing crimes against food....he was sentenced to 10 years hard labor at a Wawa as "Deli Manager"
4.) He is part of an experimental Wawa Foreign Exchange program and that's how they make shorties in Uzbekistan
5.) the drunken, cross-eyed, one-armed chimp who usually makes the sandwiches was off that day...and the Deli Manager decided to make the sandwiches just like Bonzo.....in the interests of continuity
While one, many or none of these theories may actually be correct.....there's no excuse to rape a sandwich like that.
However....while out early running errands, I realized I was animal-hungry. Need...food...now! And I really didn't want a "fast food" breakfast. I happened across Manhattan Bagel.
Imagine my surprise when I found out you can get an egg-white sandwich on a whole wheat everything bagel...and it was really good. They coffee was pretty respectable too.
So, congratulations to you....ubiquitous chain restaurant. You made a pretty good breakfast.

Monica....you continually out-do yourself. I loved the venue and really enjoyed the event. Events like this are the reason I take the hour plus train ride from Jersey.
The only reason it's not a full-on 5-star is that while the drink were delicious (and free) they were a little too complicated in the interests of getting them out. The bartenders were friendly and accommodating.....and I was happy to tip generously....but perhaps a drink recipe that can be banged out quicker.
That being said....the drink WERE expertly prepared. It was almost like watching artists at work. The bartenders really gave 100% on each drink poured.
I loved the atmosphere. It really did feel like a Prohibition-era speakeasy...complete with passwords.
My parents got the fish & chips...and I got the smoked salmon boxty. Now, I've had just about everything on the menu twice over...so I wasn't surprised to find the boxty done perfectly. My parents both raved about the fish & chips...and I even got them to try using the malt vinegar instead of ketchup on the chips.
The table service was friendly and prompt...but missing that little extra "something" that you get from the bartenders. I thought our waitress was very competent....but it's just a little different when you get taken care of by Gavin, Junior or Jess at the bar.
Ri Ra comes through again...and remains my consistent favorite bar & restaurant in Atlantic City.

This is easily my favorite bar in Atlantic City. There are two things that make this place my favorite; great food and amazing service.
I've worked my way through almost the entire menu and I've never gotten anything but a great meal. The pub meatloaf is awesome and the fish & chips are done like they're supposed to be. If you're not sure, ask a server for a recommendation.
The service is what makes this place 5 stars. Every single bartender in the place is a pro! They move fast & they pour well. The real treat is when the bar isn't packed (and it's almost always packed) you get to talk to the staff. They're really fun and make you feel welcome even if it's your first visit to the bar.
Irish Pubs in the US should take notes...because Ri Ra is how it should be done.
At first glance...it looks like every other KFC-themed ripoff chicken shack you find in inner city areas. It's in a lousy neighborhood. It's not very clean...and the guy behind the counter is speaking something loosely resembling English.
I got the dinner combo...which was three pieces of chicken, 2 biscuits and a side dish of mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was vile. It only lasted one bite before getting tossed out. The biscuits were a little hard...but actually tasted pretty good.
The chicken, however, was probably the best fast-food fried chicken I've ever had. It was moist without being too greasy...and it was really seasoned well. I was pretty surprised at the quality of the chicken.
So...if you're the adventurous type....and not an OCD neat-freak....and find yourself in the need of some really good fried chicken...try Kennedy out....but skip the sides & biscuits and go straight for the chicken.

The staff is very helpful if you're feeling overwhelmed by the wine choices...and they have a great "Customer Card" program. If you become a member (there's no fee at all) you get a blue card....and some pretty good discounts on select wines & beers. It's not just pennies either....they discount some of their wines by $3-4 off the regular price.

A Dam Good Sports Bar

The rest of the place is just not that interesting. I don't know who designed the layout...but it definitely wasn't someone who watches sports in a bar. The main TV at the bar is SO huge and so high up that you get neck cramps trying to watch the game. It's like watching a movie in the front row of the theater.
If you're already in the Quarter...and want to get boozed up on the cheap before you go to another bar...I guess this place will do. However, I wouldn't base my night on it.

What I found was a solid sports bar. There's a respectable beer selection...standard bar fare and plenty of TVs. They have lots of theme nights..making for a good excuse to come back more than once a week.
I found the crowd to be pretty good....service was quick & friendly. It's one of the more laid-back places to grab a beer in Adams Morgan.

Doobie's
Category: Dive Bars
Neighborhoods: Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square
Anybody can have fun in a crowded bar with a good beer selection & a killer jukebox. BUT...what about a bar that is empty except for you and the bartender....and re-runs of Cold Case Files are on tv? Can you have fun then? At Doobie's you can...if you're of the Doobie's mindset.
I love the menu...not because it's gourmet ( because it isn't) but because it's comfort food...even when it's not a dish you'd traditopnally call "comfort food".
Dinner & drinks at Doob's is more like hanging out at your best single guy friend's apartment. You may not be blown away....but you're going to feel welcome, comfortable...and you're gonna have a good time.

Doobie's is unquestionably my favorite bar in Philadelphia. They have a great beer selection, and a very knowledgeable staff. Marko behind the bar is one of the coolest bartenders I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The food is always good, and it leans towards the vegetarian. It's kind of a hip, open-minded atmosphere...with ZERO pretense. I've tipped many a beer here and ran into all kinds of people...and everyone's welcome at Doobie's. It has an old, "lived-in", neighborhood bar feel...but it is NOT dirty.
Doobie's will never be the "IT" place to be...and that's what makes it special. They don't try to be something they're not...and in that, they reach a level most bars could only hope to be.

It's got a great selection of specialty and health-oriented foods in the tiny space afforded them...but it's way expensive.
I usually go here for a handful of specialty items that I can't find at the supermarket. My only real knock on them is that in order to get their "Club Card" you have to spend what amounts to the GNP of a medium-sized Eastern Bloc country within a very short amount of time.
