My wife had a craving for Mac and Cheese the other night. We ended up at Luna Park. Luna sets the bar for Mac and Cheese for now. We enjoyed the dim lighting and family friendly atmosphere. It gets super loud and noisy. Don't come here expecting a quiet and private romantic evening. =P

The Blue Plate specials rock!
Seating and service was fast and excellent for a very busy Sunday Night.
Will definitely return...
However, nearby parking is a mess. Street parking is relatively safe near the corner 19th and Mission. (+1 STAR for the incredible piece of urban blight discovered for parking there) pix here:

I've been here a second time too in Aug 2009, dining before a jaunt to Mighty SF to get SALTED (see: http://www.yelp.com/ev... ) with Househeads - Jesse and Denise (see: http://www.yelp.com/us... )
Food, Drinks, Service and Ambiance are always on par for this restaurant. Yes, prices are up there but this is a great spot no doubt for business dinners or for out-of-towners looking for a great meal, service, and ambiance.
+ Portions are generous.
+ Rib Eye = perfect
+ Prime Rib - Incroyable! Better than the House of Prime Rib, Gullivers, etc...
+ Ribs Awesome.
+ Artichoke & Spinach Dip = consistently decadent and sinful junk food
+ Crab Cakes - WOW
+ Desserts to die for!
I'll be back. I'm a fan!
I've eaten here once. I was impressed with the LUNCH time specials. Amazing Flavor. Great prices. Fast English-Speaking service.
I've had the Twice Cooked Pork with Skin ($6.95) - Absolutely AWESOME!
I think I had the Beef with Bamboo Shoots and/or Peppers (~$6.00). Portion big enough for two! Watch out though: it's SPICY!!!
My mouth is watering in remembering this dish and writing this review...
I'll be back!
Who knew they had XLB??? I'm definitely going back! YUM!

...should be ashamed of what is being served in your name at the De Young Museum Cafe.
The wifey and I stopped in here to dine before enjoying the Tutankhamun ( http://www.tutsanfranc... ) exhibit. We decided to do this together instead of subjecting ourselves to the wonderful circus of the 2009 Pacific Pinball Expo in Marin (see: linkhere).
We spent $30 at the Cafe for two items.
Price was NOT the issue.
Presentation was NOT the issue.
Execution and preparation were HORRIBLE!
* Lamb Kefta ($12.00) -
This is described as "Marin Sun Farms Rack of Lamb, Bulgur, Tomato & Eggplant Stew, Cucumber Raita".
Sounds delicious, right??? But it was terribly unsatisfying. There was a total of two pieces of lamb (approximately 2 ounces of meat). The meat was overcooked, cold, and dry. It was like eating lamb jerky. Rack of Lamb should be moist, tender, and warm. What happened? All of these elements were absent after sitting too long under a heat lamp back in the kitchen, I guess...
The dish also came with half a pita cut into 4 triangles, which was stale and dry. The tomato and eggplant was the only highlight but I was not prepared for the spiciness of this accompaniment to the dish. Get me a fire extinguisher!
* Shellfish Pot Pie ($13.50)
this is described on the menu as: "CA. Dungeness Crab, Wild Shrimp, CoHo Salmon, Lobster Gravy, Fall Veggies, Puff Pastry, little Salad". Again, great Bourgeoisie "aka bougie" description - terrible execution. Lite on the seafood. Underneath the beautiful looking Puff Pastry was an unexpected soupy and watery concoction masquerading as a Shellfish Pot Pie.
This dish was served with a small bed of baby green salad and 2 pieces of Star Fruit. Unfortunately, the Star Fruit was starting to rot and brown significantly on its points. Shouldn't this fruit be cut fresh right before serving? How could you let this plate go out chef ???
When in Rome, do as the Romans. Our neighboring adult table-mates were eating off the kiddie menu which had Pizza ($7.00), Hot Dogs ($7.50) and Mac & Cheese ($8.50), which seemed like much better choices in the big scheme of things.
Pluses:
+ Free Serve-Your-Self Water. 3 choices. Iced, Lemon, and Cucumber-infused water. Served in 6-ounce glasses.
+ Beer and Wine available
Final Verdict: Be prepared to pay a premium for delicious sounding food that does NOT deliver. Save your appetite for some place much much better.

How long should it take to microwave something for 3 minutes?
*clicky http://www.youtube.com... (min 2:22)
I came here for ONE reason:
... to give the beef stew soup a second chance. When it's 54 degrees outside with high winds, I had a specific craving for a nice hot soup. I skipped going to my never disappointing Fat Wong's Kitchen or Pho Saigon. Unfortunately Ongpin JUST COULDN'T GET THIS RIGHT!
The soup came out very lukewarm. The egg noodles were still clumpy. In my opinion, Asian noodle soup broth should come out piping hot and semi-scalding at the first immediate taste. Their beef noodle soup was disappointingly cold.
We asked our indifferent server to reheat the soup in the microwave but this took close to 12 minutes for the soup to return to the table. By then we were already done with our meal because we could deconstruct and evaluate the remaining soup we had served ourselves in the individual serving bowls.
The Ongpin Beef Stew is overly sweet. There is no hint of beef broth or flavor. Since it was served cold, the soup was starting to thicken and coagulate. Lastly the beef is poor quality being too lean, overcooked, and literaly hard to eat. (-4 STARS)
The soup came back hot but this is how it should have originally been served. The server was indifferent and ambivalent and never asked if everything was alright. (-4 STARS)
Pluses:
+Portions are extremely generous and family style freindly
+Most dishes can serve at least 2-4 people!
+there are many many other places to chose when it comes to find impressive Filipino food and service in the Bay Area
Minuses:
-beef stew has become worse since change in ownership
-indifferent and uncaring service
-zero ambiance
-cold (temperature-wise in the restaurant) -- bring a jacket!
BIG MINUS: (-4 STARS)
--- TIP HIGHLIGHTED ON BILL:
The bill is presented on an approximately 1.5 inch by 3 inch piece of paper. This small piece of paper does not contain a lot of information. Trust me dear highlighter, I'm able to see and read easily what the recommended tip should be WITHOUT the bloody highlighting ! ! !Ongpin must be used to getting shortchanged or outright stiffed for service, that they feel it necessary to HIGHLIGHT their recommendations on what the tip amount should be for 15% 18% and 20% of the bill amount. Service did NOT impress or deserve a 15% tip but still got it. Gotta love the entitlement mentality.
Life is too short. There are much better Filipino choices. My review from 2007 was too generous.
Caveat Emptor.

Not recommended. Many better Filipino restaurants to choose from.
+1 STAR for the 'silog plates and the beef stew noodle bowl.
It's been at least 4 years (2003) since I've eaten here. +1 STAR for reasonable prices.

Flying Squirrel Pizza Co.
Category: Pizza
Neighborhood: Seward Park
The Flying Squirrel gets the EXTRA Star NOT for
- The Pulled Pork Pizza
- The half Basil, Cheese & Buffalo Mozzarella pizza
- The half BBQ chicken pizza
- The tasty Beet Salad
- The Ceasar Salad with the Anchovies on the
side
- The great Beer selection
- The local Molly Moos Ice Cream
- The PLUOYS - 'people love us on yelp sticker'
+ It's the CRUST !!!
I'm originally from NYC. The crust is awesome here and is reminiscent of my favorite pizza joints in NYC. I haven't found any topping combinations I really like at The Flying Squirrel. I was hoping to try actual squirrel... :P
So I'll be back...
Service is attentive even when things are crazy-busy on a Saturday evening. Be prepared to wait for these pizzas! They do take time to make these great crusts!
Oh BTW - the oil/acrylic painting in the men's Restroom is the back up +1 STAR in case the CRUST fails to impress...

I was impressed and I'm a fan of Sushi You!
Sushi You is a solid 4 Star restaurant. Service is fast and friendly. Fish is fresh. Prices are reasonable.
We were the first patrons on a cool Wednesday night (11/18/09). The restaurant is small and seats a maximum of ~20 and was eventually 3/4 full. I was surprised to find out that they get a lot of take-out and delivery business.
We ordered many things but the stand-outs were:
* Yellowtail Handroll - (~$4) Nori was crisp, the rice was sweet and vinegary, the fish was fresh. Sushi You adds a twist with Tempura crunch in this handroll. If I stop here, this restaurant is 5 STAR.
* Xanadu Roll - (~$12) Yellowtail & Salmon sashimi over Tuna and cucumber roll. Tasty and fresh - 8 pieces of YUM! (4 STARS)
Unfortunately, they do not seem to serve beer or wine. But a small serving of complimentary Sake is available.
If it weren't for the 4 hour delay of UA Flight 95 from Newark to San Francisco, Lynette and I would not have gotten a chance to eat at this great restaurant and hear some exciting news!
Congrats to http://www.yelp.com/us... Dirk and Pia! (+1 STAR)

check'em out! I'll be back when I'm in the area!
