Stopped by this afternoon for a cupcake. The selection was uninteresting - how would you like your chocolate? No other choices. Can't a girl get a vanilla cupcake once ina while?
I got the Black and White. Chocolate bottom, mexican vanilla top. The cupcake was moist. The frosting was too rich. After a few bites I couldn't stand to eat any more and I found myself very, very glad that I keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in my desk.
The girl behind the counter seemed bored and the woman in back were dressed like they wore pajams to work. Guess it's not a job to be taken too seriously. I don't need you to be working in a suit but I would like to think you got up and showered this morning, bot just rolled out of bed.
Finally, $2.98 for this cupcake was too much since you can get larger, equally delish cupcakes at Hey Cupcake and Sugar Mamas. Even their proximity won't bring me back. Show owner comment »

If you can't make it right, it doesn't matter how quick you are.
The hotel is beginning to show its age but was clean and well kept. We stayed on the 10th floor (the cattle Barron level) and while it is a bit more expensive breakfast and happy hour are free to guests on that floor. And the staff during these hours are polite and friendly.
The indoor pool can get very loud (I would hate to be on floors 3-4 over the pool area) and the "stream" that runs through the hotel reminds me of the water areas on a miniature golf course (unnatural blue color).
But aside for needing a little updating my experience with the staff was great and I would stay here again.
I love dive bars and they have summed it up to a T. The beer is reasonably priced, the selection is good. The bartender is great. He knows and appreciates beer and is always there to make a suggestion if you want to try something new.
They have indoor and outdoor seating, a great juke box and a diverse crowd. On the night I was there you could strike up a conversation with an 87 year old trucker or a military cadet.
Palo Duro is billed as similar to the Grand Canyon visually and it is.
There is a welcome center and gift shop shortly after you enter the park, which gives you a nice view of the whole canyon and is great for picture taking. For there you can continue on and wind your way to the canyon floor.
Along the way there are several breathtaking views of the canyon and there are several easy spots along the road to pull off for photos. The canyon is filled with wildlife, wildflowers, grasses, etc. The rocks are enormous and are various shapes.
The park has several places to camp, picnic, bike, and hike. This was a beautiful trip and the colors were amazing. The canyon can get very warm and the trails can get busy so I would suggest starting out early in the morning.
The pizza was ok. The toppings were plentiful and the crust crispy but the sauce was very thin and the small pieces of pepperoni all burned to a crisp on our pizza.
The cheesy bread sticks were good but I wish the side of sauce that came with them was served warm rather than cold.
All in all, the place is cute, the pizza is decent and the beer list is good (if you can get one).
I had been to Taps a few times and really enjoyed the beer selection. Met the owner once also and he was a nice, interesting guy. Wish this had worked out better for him.

My stylist has moved but I've been back to Ann Kelso twice for manicures since it is basically across the street from my apartment. The staff have been fairly rude and slow on both visits, While the manicurist was nice, the polish bubbled within hours of both visits. Since they rush you through the process, your nails don't have time to dry between coats and they bubble. What a waste of money.

I haven't yet had the chance to experience all that Ann Kelso has to offer so for now I'll stick to reviewing the hair salon. I went to see Sharamey and she was fantastic. I have a ton of hair and she knew exactly how it cut it to make it manageable for me and she made great suggestions about cut and color. I would recommend her at anyone.
I'll be there this weekend for a mani and pedi so I will add more then...
Update: I went for a mani and pedi. That service left a little to be desired. I went with a friend and while our appointments were booked at the same time, clearly some technicians are more thorough than others. One of us was finished an full 30 minutes before the other. And since the nail stations are next to the hair stations the atmosphere is load rather than tranquil.

Chicken Salad on Sourdough (Oven-roasted chicken breast, diced and tossed with celery, scallions, and fresh herbs on sourdough with lettuce and tomato.), tortilla chips and salsa, fruit salad, a cookie and iced tea.
The chicken salad was good although I would love a little more crunch (maybe some almond slivers or larger chunks of celery).
The fruit cup was large and had several different kinds of fruit, which is a nice change from places that give you under-ripe cantaloupe and call it fruit salad.
The cookie was great. I could choose from chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, gingersnap. I had the oatmeal raisin and it was large, soft and filled with raisins. Yum!
While $10 seems a lot for lunch it's par for the course in downtown. And here I got quite a bit more food for my $. I will be back.
Great sandwiches, lots of options, but a little pricey for lunch. Lots of homemade sandwich options, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, ham, and so on are all options. Thier bread is always fresh and good. Soups have been a good choice as well over the years.
