5 Star Laundry

I'm bummed to write this review since I used this service for almost a year and at the very beginning things were pretty darned good. The guy that picks up and delivers was always more than pleasant and the laundry was always folded nicely and it was nice to not deal with the cloying smell of scented detergent.

However, in the past 6 months things have totally gone downhill. Every time I call to schedule a pickup the day needs to be rescheduled and then sometimes rescheduled again. I can't say how many times I've been late for work waiting for my stuff to be picked up. And waiting and waiting.... And waiting. It's just not worth it anymore to me.

I'm not waiting for them to get it together any longer.

I found a new pick up/delivery spot and the first time I called they sent a guy on a bike to pick up my stuff.

He was here in 15 minutes.

I danced with joy and almost hugged him which was a little embarrassing for us both, but that's another story.

Bottom line, the 5 star guys are nice, and I have nothing against them personally, they just need to get their business together, If you can't be somewhere during a window of time - TELL US. And most importantly, let us know when you are available to swing by and actually stick to it.

Until that happens I foresee lots of pilgrimage to the other (cheaper) laundry service.

I was referred to Dr. Zeitler by another doctor whom I care about and trust. Therefore it really came as a shock to me that she was as unprofessional and ultimately unhelpful as she turned out to be.

I waited for about 45 minutes to see her which, in the land of dermatologists is not unheard of so I completely let that pass. When I finally did meet with her she spent around 3 minutes with me and told me there was nothing she could do to help. She also managed to insult me while I was there, which again is not unheard of in the land of dermatology. It is after all a place where one can go in for an acne problem and be told that one *needs* botox. Does anyone actually need botox??

In any case I left after the 3 minutes of pointless glory and went about my day. A month later I received a bill in the mail for 300 dollars.

I called the office to discuss and after much deliberation and back and forth with the assistant and Dr. Zeitler herself they decided to drop it to 100 bucks. For 3 minutes. Thats like what, 33 dollars a minute?

I feel like I paid the woman to insult me.

In any case I certainly would not ever go back. If you happen to find yourself in her office my suggestion would be to bring a good long book. And try not to take her too seriously.

3/21/2010 3 Check-ins Here
I walked in here starving on an unseasonably warm Sunday afternoon in March. I had biked far and long and needed some serious nourishment asap.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The wait staff stayed on top of my water glass, which was seriously impressive considering how fast and often I was draining it. Also, I had a few questions about the extensive menu and my server took his time, and seemed happy to chill with my staving self while I made some decisions on very  low blood sugar.

This was no simple task, for either of us.

In any case, the sandwich I chose, number 26 was good, but not great, hence the 4 stars. But the service was out of this world and I will be back to try another menu item.

Also - the outdoor seating is lovely, and the late afternoon sun is warm and wonderful out there.

Maybe, just maybe they might deliver to my hood? A girl can dream.

Dr. Flisser is a delight. Both professional and personal he saw me within 10 minutes of me entering his office. I don't think that's happened to me with any doctor in New York before.

We sat down and spoke both before and after the exam and I left with all my questions answered and without ever feeling rushed in or out. It was a freezing sold Friday afternoon but the office was toasty and the exam room was nearly hot which was nice since I didn't have the added bonus of freezing during what is not anyone's favorite experience.

I'll be headed back here when I must next year and It will be nice to know I'll be listened to and well taken care of. Totally, totally worth the schep to the ues.

I love this store!!

I was having one of those days when you're stuck in the city for the day with friends, so no real chance of "running" back to Brooklyn. Also, I had decided to sport the *very* skinny jeans and was not feeling it.

I had been wanting a nice light sundress anyway, but was feeling desperate to be more comfortable. I'm pretty picky with dresses though and my expectations were low as far as finding something I liked on short notice. Imagine my surprise when the very first dress I tried on here was perfect. Just perfect.

The girl who helped me was a pleasure (she actually picked the dress out for me as well!!) and we had a delightful chat while she rang me up.

I walked out of the store about 10 minutes after walking in, wearing the wonderful comfortable dress and happy as could be.

Not only was I able to enjoy the rest of my day/night in the city but now I have a gorgeous new dress I can totally wear to work as well!

Brooklyn Eyeworks!

A few weeks ago I got on the 4 headed home toward Brooklyn and had myself a small heart attack. I rummaged through my HUGE purse for my glasses (I was wearing my sunglasses) and lo and behold, they were not there.

Naturally, I had been to 437 places that day and rifled through said purse numerous times. After getting home and calling as many places I had visited that I knew the numbers to, to no avail, I counted my hip and lovely glasses as a loss.

So I hopped on yelp and looked for places to shop for a new pair.

I was impressed by the reviews for Brooklyn Eyeworks and decided to make the 2 train schlep the following day, a Saturday. The staff could not have been nicer and more patient with my insanely picky nature. They took their time, gave me hundreds of options and did not push for an upsell. Finally I decided on a pair and they put the order in for me, slated for delivery that Thursday.

Monday morning I got to work and much to my surprise/chagrin/delight/horror I saw my still quite hip and lovely glasses sitting right there on my desk at work.

Don't ask, just take my word for it when I say that this is some typical Jill mishap.

Anyway, I called Brooklyn Eyeworks right away and asked if they could cancel the order. Dan, who is the owner told me he would do his best and call me back. 10 minutes later he did and stated I was in the clear and I could come in and choose sunglasses or store credit at my leisure. Sweet relief.

Well, three weeks passed and I finally got around to getting back there. By this time I realized that I honestly don't need new glasses at this time, be it sunglasses or otherwise. I figured I'd take store credit and hopefully get contacts this winter for snowboard season.

Imagine my surprise when Dan offered to credit me back the entire 400+ dollars to my card. No questions. !!!!

I was floored and delighted. He is a doll and will keep my business as long as I am in NY, which will hopefully be forever! And now I can afford to buy groceries this week!

Thank you thank you! I love this business! Show owner comment »

Update - 3/12/2009
I am delighted to write a follow up to my previous not so incredible experiences at Abigail. I'm even more delighted to be able to follow up with such a rave. And thank you Yelp, as it could not have happened without you.

It turns out the new manager reads Yelp, took notice of the less than stellar reviews, and actually did something about it! I was contacted by him with a sincere apology for my previous experiences, and offer for a free dinner if i would give them another try. The manager who contacted me was cool and kind. He communicated with a really great attitude which was my first sign of changes to come.

I took him up on the free dinner (for 2!) (with wine!!) and had a fabulous experience. It began with being greeted not once but twice at the door, which is two more times than ever in the past. We had water with our wine, and even though the pitcher was at the table various staff swung by to cap us off throughout the meal.

I started with pumpkin soup (my fiend had the lentil) both were delicious, and quite hot upon serving. For my main course it was the seared sea scallops which, although the portion was smaller than I'm used to, was perfect for me! I would rather have the meal taste wonderful and finish full then taste okay, or lackluster and walk out stuffed. The scallops were seared with care and not too drenched in a lovely cream sauce. My friends' spinach stuffed chicken, though not quite as tasty as the scallops, was very good as well. I hadn't planned on desert (and hadn't thought it would be included - but it was!), and oh man it was freaking awesome. It's called the seasonal fruit crumble and I had the same thing on one of my previous visits but I must say, with certainty that it was completely different this time. The crust was amazing, the fruit was fresh and I had a lot of trouble eating only my half of it. Yum, I am so going back there for another glass of red wine and more of that.

Anyway, I am aware that I probably got a bit of special treatment due to the circumstances, but I will be going back, and when i do I'll follow this up with my experience as a regular paying customer. I have a good feeling it's going to stay good though. The night I chose to come in was the managers night off, but halfway though the meal he showed up to check on us and shake my hand anyway. Whether he lives in Queens, or around the corner, that's a classy move in my book. Cheers to Abigail!

    This place makes me sad.

The menu is nice and the decor is lovely. I came back 3 times and had pretty much the same issues each time. And yes, its bad enough that I won't be going back, well not for a while anyway, but I'm the forgiving sort.

The service was horrid. Like really really awful, oh my goodness how do you justify behavior like that kinda bad. The last time I was there I was ignored to the point where I began to wonder if there was some kind of joke I wasn't being let in on. Had I forgotten to shower?

I was at the bar and there were 2 bartenders and both of them just ambled around for around 5 minutes before I got so much as a nod hello. And then I waited another few minutes to get a water.

When I asked the female bartender a question about the menu she walked over to the cash register and seemed to be typing in her password a few times and then SHE STARTED READING A PAPER. She never came back, I am not joking. I'm not the type to yell for service so I just got up and left.

The few times I went before that I had glasses of red wine, which were poured nicely and tasted good, when I finally got them. But my food order was wrong both times I had dinner and the time I had dessert the waiter forgot to order it. I had to ask him again after 10 minutes or so and he then punched it in. It would have been cool if it was busy, but there was only one other table.

I just don't get it, it's like they're on a mission to go out of business.

Delicious food and excellent service!

I've ordered in and eaten here both with good results, though, I can say the food was a little better when I ate in.

I've only had the portobello and turkey burgers but both were excellent and the roasted sweet potatoes are delicious. By the way, the whole wheat bun they use for the portobello is awesome and works great as a substitution for the turkey burger as well.

The reason I had to log in and yelp was that tonight they got my order wrong and when I called back they were kind and cool and had my corrected order to me before I finished the part of the order they got right. The delivery guy is great as well, nice to see a friendly face.

This is one of my favorite restaurants - period. Tortilla soup with an empanadilla (beef or bean or look for a special, they're all good!) is my staple, sometimes I'll have a corn arepa to mix things up.

The service is always awesome, the food has never missed the mark and I've taken family and friends here, all of whom have also enjoyed it throughly.

Also, they have 3 nights a week with 3 dollar happy hour beers.

run don't walk.

Delicious food, excellent service.

I had an excellent brunch experience here, I walked in hungover and starving and walked out, well, still a little hung over but as sated as I could be.

I sat at the bar and ordered the Mediterranean Crispy Dough with eggs over-easy because it sounded like something good to feed a hangover and sure enough it was perfect.

The dough was crispy and tasty - not greasy at all, and the eggs were cooked just the way I like them, which I've found can really be a dice roll. On the side was some tomato paste kinda spread and some spicy toppings. I used both liberally and even sampled one of the pickles on the dish. The bartender kept my coffee full and was attentive without being annoying or pushy. The manager (owner maybe?) even came by at the end of the meal to check on me.

I'll definitely be back, and will probably bring a friend.
