The Melting Pot

I'd go here even if they didn't feed me!

This was an excellent venue for our large party of staff who attended to celebrate the holidays well after New Year's into 2012.  We did some planning ahead and pre-ordered, thus our seating was arranged so people of like selections were seated as capably as possible around the fondue pot for their choice.

The food was all around excellent, from first dip into the perfectly-melty garlic & herb cheddar to the final scrape of Bailey's milk chocolate onto a smidge of cheesecake.  We also enjoyed a variety of wines and brews in our party, and they cater to the younger set as well with Shirley Temples and Tommyknockers root beer.

All ingredients, produce and meats were very fresh and savory, and the staff seemed knowledgeable in recommending cooking methods, times and combinations for utmost enjoyment.

My only two recommendations:  provide some kind of timer at the table for those who don't like guessing about their food (they advise 2-3 minutes and some of our party felt iffy about time passage due to conversation), and don't make multiple guests have to sit so tightly in the booths (I had issues with my leg circulation later that night).

Oh, and make sure you allow yourself enough time to enjoy the building - it is truly historic and is even reputed to have ghosts in residence!

Boy, do they do breakfast!

I have never set foot inside this establishment, but they set foot inside mine and I am still reeling in awe!

From the uber-pleasant young lady who delivered all of our order to the ingenious way they pack it all for such easy retrieval and display, I was thoroughly thrilled.  The egg souffle sandwiches were AWESOME, and the fruit & yogurt were so fresh!

Definitely using them again for my catering needs!

Have yourself a Naughty Root Beer.

We drove here after a Hanging Lake hike with the kids and had a nice meal in a decent venue.

The husband enjoyed his pale ale with great relish (as in he relished it, not an actual garnish to the ale), and I must say the Naughty Root Beer sat very well with me.  Our kids enjoyed their tot-safe chocolate milks.

My BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich was excellent, albeit a trifle messy.  My husband wolfed down his Buffalo Burger.  The kids enjoyed a four-cheese mini pizza and a grilled cheese sandwich, respectively.  What really got them were the kiddie fries in the shape of smiley faces!

Decent service, the ambience wasn't too loud or dark, and we were seated right beneath a TV screen to watch football highlights on a Sunday.  All was right with the world.

Just another place to like in Glenwood Springs!

For Halloween prep, there's no other choice for penny pinchers.

Let's face it - if you want a truly authentic and ready-made costume, you go to Flossy McGrew's.  If you need to nickel and dime your way to an alter ego for All Hallow's Eve, you go to Savers.

Starting last year and into this one, I have found every piece of a costume - adult or child - I have needed without breaking my poor wallet into smithereens.  We found all we needed for my daughter's Barbie-Princess-Fairy costume, and I plan to go back for my 80's-rock-star costume.

They had me at Butternut Squash soup.

We started frequenting this place to pick up our produce and healthy snacks for our kindergartener, and I have to say I've been repeatedly impressed with all aspects of this establishment.

The staff are always friendly and accommodating, right up to when they let me prepare myself a yogurt parfait to enjoy with my kids on the patio outside.  (It was a kids-only activity, so... yeah, I cheated and they let me.)

The produce is consistently good, as we go for the organic stuff.  The snacks I'm able to procure for my son are received well and help us feel better about his daily nutrition.  It even makes me feel less guilty about buying the to-die-for-best-chocolate-I've-ever-had Grey & Black chocolate bars near the checkout.  ZOMG.

AND you don't need a saver card or account to save on their weekly markdowns!  This place has my love like Whole Paycheck never quite will.

I need a masseuse for my face after 90+ minutes of straight laughing!

The worlds of intimate dinner theater and improv comedy meet oh-so-happily in this engaging and impressive performance where a blind date unfolds right before the eyes of the audience... and it includes one of their own.  "Mimi" is a sweet and lovable clown who, lacking an actual attendee to her blind date, selects one from the audience instead!

The process is simultaneously masterful and entertaining.  The actors mingle with the audience beforehand, engaging them in conversation and fanciful flirtations before and after the performance.  Do these interactions lead Mimi to selecting her stand-in date when it's apparent the empty chair across from her will otherwise remain empty?  Perhaps... you must go to find out for sure!

For 90+ minutes, Mimi has a witty and comfortable command of the direction of her blind date with the audience participant, and so much the better if he has a significant other in the crowd to further complicate the scene unfolding on stage!

From this theater patron who most loves improvisational acting, I was enthralled from start to finish.  The biggest draw of the show is that you really don't have a set pattern or result to expect, as it all depends on who Mimi will select as her Blind Date!

My husband thinks he's found this year's Halloween costume for me.

Being Scottish, I've always wanted to try this place.  Being a man, my husband really wanted to as well.  Thus our paths converged on a long-awaited date night to the DCPA by hitting the Happy Hour at Tilted Kilt.

We got there shortly before 6pm and it timed out well as we had no wait for a tall table near the bar.  The venue itself is quite large, including a heated patio, so it was great for parties of all sizes and could also accommodate those who wanted to sit in a more private setting.

The wait staff seemed capable, and naturally with the additional assets they sport in their service, at least 50% of the patrons are going to be satisfied.  (**Not picking up what I'm laying down?  The waitresses wear midriff white tie-tops with plunging cleavage and hang-off-the-hip plaid skirts with knee-high white socks and black character shoes.**)

The food was good - I enjoyed a Scottish Cheesesteak sandwich while the man devoured a Pastrami sandwich.  Both were great, and the fries were hot & crispy without being greasy.

Boddingtons is on tap and the Avalanche game was on the big screens, so my man had a great time!  My midori sour could have been a bit stronger, but all in all I was satisfied.

I'd love to come here with a few friends for a good game night!

And the best part wasn't even the nudity. :)

Say what you will, but Yelp Denver did a great job setting us up for this event.  Our tickets were in the lower level and provided an excellent view of the entire stage, and the audience, which comes into play farther down.

The show... I really dug it!  I had no notions about the show, having never seen it nor knowing much beyond a general familiarity with songs from the musical as they are used for other purposes.  But the program didn't lie - I could totally see how it provided a very necessary stepping stone into other iconic shows like Rent (my favorite current-day musical).

The part I will take away with me forever is the last song, "Let The Sunshine In," when the crowd was utterly silent for the imagery of their friend's body on the flag... which led into a curtain call where the cast invited anyone in the audience onto the stage for a moshpit and sing-along!  Looking out over the crowd, swaying their arms back & forth to mirror their friends and the cast on the stage, was truly memorable and will forever be burned in my mind.

Thanks, Yelp, for the experience and the wonderful evening!

If I were French, I'd give a resounding, "Oui!"

I have not a complaint about this venue after meeting up with some fellow Yelpers before a show.  For one thing, I was early and had to sit solo for a bit, but that wasn't a bit of a problem considering the fare, the service and the atmosphere.

The fare... delectable!  I enjoyed some shrimp cocktail, which were enormous and delightful, served with lemon and their incredible potato chips.  The never-ending bread basket sports an absolutely addictive butter spread with lemon and lime zest which I abashedly couldn't stop eating.  If their cocktails are all as good as the French Mojito I savored, and as strong, you're in for an excellent time!

The waitstaff were all so welcoming and excellent at what they do!  Knowing I was waiting to join other patrons, and me not knowing them since we're online together, they kept an eye out for me and did a wonderful job ensuring we all found each other and were seated in a prime area for socializing.  They remained attentive and accommodating throughout the evening.

The atmosphere is very nice but not elitist, so while you can take your love there for an intimate dinner, you can also enjoy what's on tap at the bar while watching the game.

Very impressed, and I hope to take my husband here soon!

Temple Buell Theatre

Other than wishing I was a man at intermission, this place is so great for my theater bug!

Been here many a time for many a memorable occasion:  opening night of Phantom of the Opera (the first performance in the Buell!), Wicked, The Nutcracker, Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, and last night was opening night of Hair!

One new feature for theater-goers is that you can now pay for concessions via debit or credit card, AND you can take the plastic bottles and snacks into the show!

The staff are friendly yet very stringent on protecting the theater and the shows performing there, so do NOT take pictures once seated.  Yes, I speak from quasi-experience.

**Ladies, I wouldn't recommend guzzling down drinks before the show starts.  There is definitely a stadium-restroom situation where the men invariably aren't sprinting back to their seats as much as the women are from our long lines... and that's no fun in heels, right?

Excited for every theatrical season here, and hoping to get season tickets soon!
