My 5th year in a row! Even going to BOTH WEEKENDS! AHHHHH THE MADNESS! It's addicting, like a drug. I'm afraid if I miss a year, I'll miss something good. Never been disappointed so far. People don't understand why I speak so passionately about this festival. I live on a rock. No one comes there. Ok no I'm exaggerating a little. Promoters in Hawaii try really hard to bring good acts here. But I'm sure its tough. But there are acts that will NEVER set foot in Hawaii. EVER. I recommend anyone to go just once. It will be one of the most amazing things you'll experience ever in your life. If it you do go & you don't find it amazing, you are prolly sad & jaded & should just stay home because we don't need bad apples like u to ruin our good time! Humph!

Ha funny people complaing about crowds for a music festival. Um...its like a MUSIC FESTIVAL. Ya know, before I went this year '07. I was expecting the worse... crowds, dirty porta potties, hot unbearable weather. The Coachella Message Board warned me about it all. I was kinda scared that I wasn't going to have n e fun. Well it was all true. It was crowded, it did have some dirty porta potties, & it was hot as hell. But I didn't care, neither did my boyfriend. We had so much fun, we are going next year. We got to see so many acts that would never set foot in Hawaii EVER. All in one place. We decided to go at the last minute when we saw who was playing. Interpol, Justice, MSTRKRFT, Digitalism, Amy Winehouse, LCD SoundSystem, JAMC, Spank Rock, Peter, Bjorn, & John, Bjork, Cornelius. If you have diverse musical tastes, this festival is for you. Its been said its the best music festival in the US. I guess maybe because I expected the worse, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it very much. We figured the hotels would be sold out, ( message board told us this) and we r not into camping, so we rented a vacation home close to  Empire Polo Fields. It was less than 10 min away. There are TONS of vacation homes for rent nearby. Its especially great if you have a large group you all can split the cost of the place. Most cost about the same as a hotel rm. You have a kitchen too so you can shop at a nearby Target for food like we did. We didn't have to wait in line for food, beer, or water or portapotty. I mean it wasn't crazy long. Just a few minutes. I mean you can't let things like a little sun or dirty portapottie or lines or crowds or ruin your fun. We had so much fun we are already PLANNING to go again. See you in the desert in '08!

Whole Foods Market

On a recent trip to Los Angeles in April we stayed in Pasadena. And right up the street was a Whole Foods market. I was curious to see what Whole Foods have to offer, they are currently building one in the mall that I work at. So I had to check it out before it arrived in Hawaii. Now I'm not an organic person. I am more of a bargain shopper, but I like to eat healthy. If its on sale & healthy then even better. Unfortunately Whole Foods does cover the healthy part BUT you pay for it. But that not why I gave it 5 stars. I gave it 5 stars because this place is massive!!!! Its own parking and 2 floors packed with wholesome organic goodness. We didn't really buy any groceries, but we did go gaga over their "prepared food" section & bakery on the second floor. Anything you wanted they had! 2 things for salad bar 2 things for hot food by the pound. Sushi and Japanese food. Mexican food, Mediterranean, Pasta, Pizza, Soups, Make Your Own Sandwich, Stews. We had such a hard time deciding. And we got dessert too. I of course got a cupcake that had frosting shaped into a lamb(?). Unfortunately is was just ok. But the other hot foods that we got were pretty yummy. But expensive. So all in all I think it a good place if you like to shop organic. But maybe not eat there all the time. And by the looks of construction at the mall, I don't think the Whole Foods in Kahala will measure up to Pasadena's. Oh yeah and you can get massages there too. 5 stars for the yummy Katsu Curry with Brown Rice and the California Roll with Brown Rice. YUM.

Mary Catherine's Bakery - CLOSED

Okay I am a fan of cupcakes. I will try any cupcake if theres cupcake on the menu. We were jonesing for a dessert so I suggested we try Mary Catherines. I pass by here EVERYDAY on the way to work and was curious to find what goodies they had inside. Well it obvious when you walk inside that they specialize in wedding cakes. Wedding cakes were being made while we perused the glass display case. They didn't have much. Russian tea cookies, tarts, scones...but wait! Is that? A CUPCAKE!?! Yes!!!! I chose a vanilla cupcake with blue buttercream frosting. Okay, so although I LOVE buttercream frosting, whats under that buttercream frosting matters ALOT. Alot of bakeries that I've tried the cake itself is always dry & crumbly. Not THIS cupcake! It was moist and delicious inside and out. YUM. I can only imagine what a whole cake must taste like. They did have whole cakes to buy in the display case and one caught our attention. I can't remember what it was called but it had chocolate crumbles of merenge and it had the same rocky texture as the Ben Grimm aka the Thing. We vowed to get that dessert and bring it to our next family get together. We'll let you all know how it tastes...stay tuned. Oh and the tart that my boyfriend tried was pretty good too.

I went here on the recommendation of a client. I told her I would be staying in Pasadena with our friends sister and she said "You must try Burger Continental" So on our first day in Pasadena, our friends sister asked us if we were hungry and and I asked her if she heard of Burger Continental. She immediately knew what I was talking about. The food was good. It was alot. I ended up not even getting a burger. I ended up getting some kebabs. I couldn't even finish it. Even had the salad bar. That was pretty good too. The service was good up to a point. Our waiter was friendly, but he accidentally gave by boyfriends food to our friend and vice a versa. (they both ordered some kind of steak) But by the time they realized it they each had already taken several bites. But I would prolly check it out again.

Went here for a F&M Presents party on a SAT. Now they "GIVE GOOD PARTY", thats a given, I'm mean they do hire THE BEST DJ's for all their parties!!!!!! (WINK WINK) But the place is  really nice. Been here when it was the Esprit niteclub when my boyfriend dj'd a private party and the place is small. But i like what they did with the decor, the place has this great lighting that casts a warm glow (hey like FIRE!) and makes people skin look great. It has a great view of the ocean. My only problem was that the restroom was outside of the club. But it wasn't that big of a deal. Unless you REALLY hafta go or you feel like u might get sick. Yes the drinks are pricey BUT what do u expect. You're at a club in a hotel in Waikiki. I'd like to try some of the food next time.

Okay, just went to Champions. Figured I'd give them a try...they are right up the street from where I live and I like trying new things. AND i haven't had a malasada in freakin' AGES!!!! So we walk in and I didn't know that they make em to order. The lady ask us how much we wanted, we told her... and then we stood there staring at her. Um... no" It'll be a few minutes, please take a seat. " or "Your order will be right up". Nothing. My boyfriend and I looked at each other like "WTF?"  So we sat down... and waited. Finally got em and took them puppies home. They were pretty good...I can't really tell the diff between Leonards & Champions. Like I said I haven't eaten a malasada in a loooooooooonnnggggg time. But I do know they are are NICER at Leonards. So Champions get 3. They seriously need to work on customer service. =(

Went to see Guns & Bombs dj here! And Dj KSM! Sound system is awesome. Its really nicely decorated. Kinda reminds me of the clubs in Downtown or on the mainland Like Cinespace or LAX. Had alot of fun. The crowd was pretty cool. But in response to the comment about it being the next WAVE...if you mean as in Wave Waikiki (RIP)No club will ever compare to the Wave. It was in a league of its own and I mean that in a good way.

I LOVE CUPCAKES!!!!! Ask my boyfriend, if cupcake is on the menu, I will have it. I saw the listing for the bakery in a insert in the Advertiser for the Ilima Awards (its an award they give to restaurants in Hawaii). The bakery did not win an award but was mentioned under a listing of wonderful bakeries. They had a pic of the cupcakes! And I LOVE ME SOME CUPCAKES! So I made my boyfriend drive me to Restaurant Row to find these bad boys! First of all do not let your teenage kids run the store. She seemed kinda annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted right away. I mean they all looked so good... so I decided on a vanilla  with blue buttercream frosting cupcake AND a frosted sugar cooking in the shape of a monkey. So cute. The 3 stars is for... (sigh) the sugar cookie. I mean, Like Brooke M. said, I wanted to like the cupcake so much, it was so pretty, even tho it seemed kinda small. But cake part was REALLY dry. Not moist at all. It kinda crumbled. It kinda was a disappointment.

I swear this place has the coolest shows EVER. My boyfriend and  I made a special trip to SF to see Simian Mobile Disco & Boys Noize on 09/20 & Switch & Diplo on 09/21/2007. It was our first time to the Mez.  The place is huge. Lots of bars so it doesn't get crowded at one. A coat check that came in handy. A huge womens restroom, a must at any club! Oh yeah and no bathroom attendant. I can get my own soap & paper towels thank you. I WISH we had this many cool shows in Honolulu as this place has in a month. Its crazy!! Oh yeah, they absolutely do NOT allow cameras in the club. Your bag WILL be searched. But I have my ways... So now I check the website often so I can see who playing there next. So I can either DROOL or fly my ass back to SF for what I know will be an awesome show...

Drummers at clubs...

Category: Dance Clubs

I don't see the attraction of drummers in clubs drumming over a dj's music.
For one sometimes they completely cover the song and you can't even hear what the dj is spinning. And i thought drummers with djs went out like 1995. You know, you're at a rave some guy's playing the bongos while you're sucking on your lollipop and some guy next to you is dancing with glowsticks and a banging progressive house tune is playing... I mean I don't get excited when I hear that theres gonna be a drummer at a club. I get excited at who the dj is.
