This joint gets five stars since it's the only place in the area that I've found with free air for your tires.

Avis Rent A Car

This Avis location is terrible.  This is the second year in a row that we have rented from them and reserved a non-smoking car.  This is also the second year in a row that we have been given a car that was obviously smoked in or was involved in some ridiculous tobacco fire.  I kept having to constantly turn cars in for new ones, or just suck it up because it is so late at night and all I want to do is sleep.

Normally I like Avis, but when in Richmond, I'll be going somewhere else for my car.  Don't rent here.

Courtyard Williamsburg

Wow did we have problems at this place.

First, our flight arrived in Richmond about 10pm, so by the time we got to Williamsburg, it was almost 11:30pm.  The front doors of this Courtyard were locked.  Yes - that's right - it's not a typo.  They were locked.  So we rang the bell.  No response.  We could see the front desk and nobody was there.  We kept ringing and pounding on the glass.  About 10 minutes later, the old lady working (who was obviously napping in the back) finally heard us, came out, and didn't even apologize.

Second, when we got to our room, there was a big rollaway bed inside the door blocking our way in.  We didn't request it.  No idea why it was in our room, but we had to put down all our bags to push it out into the hallway.

Third, there were dirty towels hanging in the bathroom.  Little pieces of brown goo on the towels.  NASTY!

Enough said - I normally like Marriotts, but I'm sure staying away from this one.

Burke Mountain Ski Resort

This place was great compared to a lot of the New England ski areas that I've been to.  Because it is so far away from most of the major metros, it is not crowded at all and the lift lines are non-existent.

It's not a huge mountain.  There are only two lifts - one that goes from the bottom to mid-mountain, and one that goes from mid-mountain to the top.  There are also two j-bar lifts.  However, they do have a pretty decent variety of terrain, and as an intermediate skier, I wasn't bored at all.

The rentals were brand new and in great condition, which was a nice surprise.  And they gave a student discount to an old grad student like me, so that was also a nice surprise.

The condo we stayed in was also pretty cheap when split between 5 people, so I'd definitely go back, and highly recommend this place.

Really the only thing wrong with this place is that it is ALWAYS crowded.  I'm sure that's a good sign for business, but sometimes that's a pain.  Especially during the summer when it's filled with annoying-kid-toting soccer-mom tourists.

In general though, the food is very good, and if you manage to hang out with the locals, a great place to watch a Sox game.

A group of about six of us went to this restaurant to celebrate my grandparent's anniversary.  The food was great and the wine selection was pretty decent for a smaller restaurant.

The staff was very friendly and attentive.  It wasn't all that busy - we went in the off season - but I'm sure it can get a lot busier during the summer.

The reason I didn't give it five stars was of a ruckus next to us.  There was a large group of people (about three tables worth) obviously celebrating some event.  This was fine, until half of them got really drunk and started acting like idiots and making it really hard to hear anything but their own cackoing.  In a small, classy restaurant like this, I had hoped that management would have stepped in and asked them to simmer down a little.  It really did detract from my enjoyment of the evening.

But other than that, it was pretty good.

The Williamsburg Winery

My wife and I stopped here for dinner on Homecoming weekend this year. We had heard about it when doing some research about the winery and the new country inn that is being built there.

Our first impression was that the place must be closed. The road leading up to the winery is not well lit and when we got there the place looked dark - no lights inf the parking lot, etc.

But we had heard good things about the restaurant so we checked it out anyway, and were glad we did.  As we were getting ready to leave, the lone waiter stepped out on to the porch and told us they were open.  This guy was very friendly and very attentive during dinner but not overbearingly so.

We walked in an we were literally the only people there, other than the waiter and the cook.  It was nice not to have to wait or be crowded, but it was a little weird being the only ones there.  We talked to the waiter, and he mentioned it was usually pretty slow (but not THAT slow) on Sunday nights.

In any event, dinner was very good, though the menu was limited.  Not limited in a bad way though - I think it is just a small restaurant with a small kitchen, and a small staff, so they only prep a few items for the menu each night.  The food was very good, and the price was not too expensive.  Additionally they had a great selection of wine from the Williamsburg Winery (which I guess owns the restaurant).  They even sold us a few bottles to take home.

I would definitely go back - and it might be fun to go with more people when it's slow like that.  A good experience overall.

I will echo the other reviewer and say that the food is pretty good.  I haven't had lunch there, but I've ordered takeout dinner a bunch of times, and it has always been decent.  The price, menu selection, and everything else is pretty typical of a suburban chinese food restaurant.

The only thing I will say is that parking can be a pain in the neck to just run in and pick something up, since it's street parking on a busy one way street.

I gave this place five stars because the price was great.  We got away with an excellent meal for only $25 each and that included a drink.  I thought this was pretty good for Vegas.

The food was very good, and there was a ridiculously large amount of it, so nobody went hungry.

The server was great, we had a reservation and got seated early, even on a Saturday night.

All in all, much better than some of the places I've been to in Vegas.

Hooters

I think I have had enough of all the Hooter-haters.  Seriously - if you want to be completely aroused during dinner, then go eat at a strip club.  The girls are not meant to be swimsuit models, otherwise they wouldn't be working at Hooters.  The point is, if you are going somewhere to drink beer and eat wings, you may as well have a girl with big hoo-hoos serving you.  She doesn't have to be a 10 for her to make it a more pleasant experience than getting beer and wings from some hurting girl somewhere else.

So get over it, stop with the criticisms and enjoy yourself.

Wings = good and cheap.
Ham & cheese sandwich - surprisingly edible.
Beer - same as everywhere else.
Boobs - well above average.  Plus the view of the pool patrons while you are eating is a plus.

I knocked off one star because the bartender was way too full of herself and wouldn't even smile while serving drinks.  She might be a Hooter-hater too.  If you're too full of yourself to work there, get the hell out.
