we have shopped mcarthurs for years and years for all of our dessert needs. my first wedding cake came from there so as a tradition i wanted my second from there also. it was an ordeal. the young little nitwit behind the counter told us we had to set up an appointment for a cake tasting after we repeatedly told her exactly what we wanted. i am diabetic and seldom stray to eating sugar but for my wedding you bet i was.  we way overpaid and it tasted fairly good. they were late by over an hour on delivery. it was a one tier square cake. i wanted white cake and white buttercream frosting what on earth do i need a tastiong for. we ended up calling it a party cake because we were told that it was technically going to be that. for my wedding dress i both times walked in the store and saw what i wanted in and bought it in 15 minutes or less, the same with my custom living room furniture. i am easy to work with. then i am told they cannot do fondant for the design it has to be iced. the job looked crappy. THE GROCERY STORE DID FONDANT OF WHAT I WANTED ON THE GROOM CAKE. i could have made them the exact cutout for the fleur de lis and i offered. for my anniversary i will be going to the competition with a picture of my wedding cake and cutouts. all the shows on tv can do that but they cant. the competition said no problem. while on another occaision i bought sugar free items and they were all stale and tasted horrible and were overpriced as well and i didnt bother to complain i dumped them in the trash and will not go there again. the grocery store bakery is better. we bought a sheetcake from the grocery in chocolate to act as a groom cake. it was awesome and i took that and the food left overs to the st. louis county police dept on behalf of a friend there so the nice officers could have a nice meal with lots of chocolate cake with buttercream icing for their dessert as a thank you for their niceness.

eat everything you can it is all good. try to go when they are not bursting at the seams crowded which is most of the time. the food rules greek salad is a must so are the gyros and dont get me started on the lamb or that flaming cheese. we starve a good part of the day then come here over order deliberately to have a doggy bag for the next day. then go next door to the bakery for coffee and desserts and we get a box to go there too. yummy yummy THIS IS WHAT TARPON SPRINGS IS ALL ABOUT. NOT FAR FROM THE TOWN'S GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH IS A PRIVATELY OWNED CHAPEL BUILT BY A MOTHER FOR HER ILL CHILD A MUST FOR THE RELIGIOUS. ACROSS THE STREET ON BOTH STREETS ARE NICE SOUVENIER SHOPS. THE ONE ON THE SAME SIDE ALWAYS HAS YOUR GREEK EVIL EYE STUFF. I LOVE TARPON SPRINGS IT IS WONDERFUL. VISIT DURING A GREEK FESTIVAL TO TAKE IN THE GREEK FLORIDA WAY OF LIFE. HELLAS BAKERY IS WHERE MOST OF YOUR DESSERTS IF NOT ALL COME FROM SO GO STRAIGHT TO THE SOURCE EVERYTIME.

i stopped here with my mother for a cone and it was so horrible we didnt take more than a couple of tastes and both flung them out the window at the same time as we headed back to our hotel. we do not miss meals and have never done this before but it was horrible tasting and we are just not litterbugs. the cone with partially melted ice cream in it is my favorite part but i just couldnt. we are fat and never waste food or miss a meal. i was down there looking at homes and going through the hiring process to work at the prison till i met my husband back home. i have friends that live and work nearby and they laughed when we told them what we did.

i love their lunch buffet. whenever i can find someone willing to eat there with me i go. i love the buffet but have never eaten dinner there. i will be taking my husband soon just have to be my natural cute enticing self to convince him once there he will be sold. my favorite is the rice topped with meatball kofta. their vegtables and tandoori chicken are always good. my favorite desert is to mix the pancake puffballs(i forgot what they are called) with honey syrup together with the sweet rice in a bowl. my pakistani friend who has eaten these foods his whole life never thought of it and when i told him what i do he complimented me and told me i was a genius. if they have it when you go try it you will love it. the naan(bread) is wonderful. then as a bonus you are high up by the airport which in itself is a selling point if the food were bad but it is always good.

the food rules and it is family run and they are so nice. the food is fresh and sometimes they have crazy hours or or closed for family reasons. sometimes no take out menus and they have a drive thru pick up window in their nicely remodeled retired taco bell building next to kentucky fried chicken. blink and you will miss it. as far as i am concerned they can do no wrong. my husband is new to thai food and loves it all just like me. the food is always good. when i am sick my husband gets me their soups. they are the best we love them.

When in Tarpon Springs we always visit Hellas. The bakery has everything that is good anytime. We love baklava and coffee and take home treats from the bakery. On the restaurant side get the flaming cheese and a greek salad. We always go at least once for the salad for 4, they put a big serving of potatoe salad inside their greek salad, and the feta and olives rule. Of our zillions of visits we have never ever had a bad meal and when we have a lot of family we always take them to Hellas.
