After the high quote I received from the Sheraton for a block of rooms for my wedding, I decided to check out other hotels in the area just to see what they could offer me. This is where the Sierra Suites comes in...
The Sierra Hotel is set up as a business type hotel. This is the kind where executives fly in for meetings/conferences stay for a week and then go back home. Due to this, rates on the weekend are less expensive than rates during the week and more than likely is why there are no weekend shuttles and the breakfast provided is not as fancy.
I worked with Samantha who was nothing but sweet and accommodating. She suggested I come and tour the property(which I did) and then offered me rates for different sized suites. All of which were less than the Sheraton and all of which included breakfast (according to the guests who stayed until Monday morning, the breakfast was much better during the week than on the weekend), free Wi-Fi, a fitness room, business center (with computers available), a sitting area and more space in the actual room. There is also laundry, a snack shop of sorts and a pool/hot tub.
I put together little bags for the out-of-towners and the staff delivered them to the rooms as people were scheduled to arrive. Some arrived the Friday before the wedding and some arrived the day of the wedding (Sunday).
All but one of my guests (I had 12 in total stay here) were incredibly happy with this hotel. They found the service to be great, the breakfast decent for an included breakfast and the rooms to be spacious and comfortable. My groom even stayed in a suite here the night before our wedding and said he would stay again in a heartbeat-especially after staying at the Sheraton on our wedding night!

Wednesday was my sister-in-law's 40th birthday and we ordered her flowers through this site (since Proflowers went way downhill over the past few years.). I liked that I could choose flowers that would be delivered via a local florist as opposed to some generic place somewhere out there. My SIL lives in Bellingham, Washington and though they live in a somewhat rural area(about 8 miles outside of the main city), it is in a large development of houses and should not have been a problem.
Well, it was a problem. Her flowers never arrived. I called 1-800 to inquire about the delivery as they were supposed to be there. I called around 6pm and was told by a representative that the florist had until 7pm to deliver the flowers. Interesting because according to their website, birthdays and funerals are a priority with deliveries. Anyway, at 7:10, still no flowers so I called again. After waiting on hold for quite some time, I got through to another rep and was advised that shortly after my first call (6pm) the local florist let them know that their delivery truck had mechanical problems and since it was a rural area, they had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck and that sadly 3 orders did not make it to their destination and one of those orders was my SIL's. You would think that 1-800 would have contacted me immediately but no. I felt like an asshole all excited for my SIL to get this beautiful arrangement of flowers along with a birthday balloon.
The rep then asked if I wanted the order to be delivered tomorrow by the same florist. My response was-"how do we know their delivery truck will work"? She wouldn't give me the name of the florist so I couldn't in my right thinking call a local florist without thinking it could be the same company that fucked up my order in the first place. I told her to cancel my order all together and promptly sent an email to my SIL apologizing profusely for the delivery failure. I also started writing a 1 star review for this site-until I got a call from "David" a "supervisor" from 1-800 Flowers. David apologized profusely, and while I could tell he was very nervous dealing with a customer like me (assertive, verbal), he said he could guarantee delivery the next day and offered up a discount. I had told him I was more prone to scrap the order all together and send my SIL an E-certificate through Amazon instead but again, he assured me the flowers would get to my SIL.
I am happy to say my SIL received her flowers a day late, but she was thrilled beyond belief at what was ordered for her. Instead of the one star review this service was going to receive from me, I am upping it to a 3 star review though still with hesitation. I have to see how my credit card will be charged or credited.
I think my best bet for the future, I will just go back to the old days of using Google to find a local floral shop (or Yelp) in the area where I want to send flowers to and stop using these "easy" services since I keep seeming to get disappointed.
