I cheated on Jalapenos so I can eat here. Its closer to where I work so I figured it'd be easier for me. Well, screw me for cheating on my Mexican soulmate.
I've had a lot of Carne Asade fries and California burritos in my lifetime. I consider myself a Food Nazi to a certain extent, but my experience with Mexican food has always been pretty good. I've rarely had to complain about a place, but Los Primos? Yes, I do.
The California burrito was very boring and just lacked flavor. It was huge, but that was the only thing it got going for it. The Carne Asada fries however, were just disappointments after disappointments. I was desperate that day and wanted to eat Mexican food badly so I settled. The fries were dried out and just hard as rocks, not enough guac and not enough sour cream. I like to have a balance between moist and dry when eating carne asade fries, but I felt like I was stabbing the roof of my mouth with a fork full of disappointments.
Forgive me Jalapenos for cheating on you like that! Shame on me!

Babycakes

I ordered the Hazelnut and Red Velvet. The cupcakes are pretty decently sized so its definitely reasonably priced. Moist inside and the frosting was creamy and smooth. I actually was not able to finish mine without some assistance. The decor is like your typical dimly lighted coffeehouse. Relaxed, soothing, and comfortable. However, I took mine to go so I didn't stay there for long to enjoy the atmosphere. Actually, I was a cheapskate. Had gift cards to Starbucks so went across the street to get myself some free coffee to go with my cupcakes. I need this place though because Extraordinary Dessert doesn't make my favorite cupcakes anymore, or at least not that often. I've had it like 3 times only there? Furthermore, Babycakes follows a more conventional pattern in cupcake baking than ED does. I'm actually starting to prefer Babycakes more just because I'm a cupcake person and this place specializes in it. I can do without normal cakes.
On the one hand, I wish this place was closer so I could visit it more often and get myself some cupcakes, but on the other hand, I'm glad its a 20 minute drive for me because then I'd be fatten up like a total cow.

One Japanese Sushi & Grill

I consider myself an experienced sushi diner and after consulting a Murrieta local on where to eat for dinner, I decided to give this place a try. Surprisingly, this sushi restaurant is a lot better than some of the ones I've had in San Diego (e.g. Sushi Shitto!). As soon as I walked in, the modern decor was a surprise. I have low expectations of most places in Murrieta, so it was pleasant to see a place that could easily fit in with Hillcrest restaurants. The man and I ordered two rolls, he ordered the caterpillar and I forgot what I ordered, but it involved spicy tuna and cream cheese (okay that was vague, apologies, but its been a while). Once again, much to my surprise, it was delicious and well executed. I didn't have any complaints about this place at all. If my appetite was with me that night, I would have ordered another roll. Staff was nice and pleasant, you could tell they were very personable to their guests. Always a plus!
When I'm in the area again and looking for some fine dining, I'll definitely give this place a repeat.

I ordered the single bacon cheeseburger and my man ordered the double cheeseburger. While the patties were standard thin size patties, the burgers were just huge! I had difficulty chewing on it without the ketchup, mayo, and tomatoes getting in my face. I looked like a slobbering mess afterward. Totally unable to keep my ladylike manners, but thankfully, my man was too busy devouring his to really notice. Also, the generous stack of napkins for me to grab in between bites helped out a lot. The chocolate shake was huge, I basically drank like a third of it and couldn't finish it. Incredibly thick, creamy, and filling.
The interior is very casual dining, very much a surfer's joint as it should be. The atmosphere was laid back and casual. I was glad I was able to take my man there since he enjoys his burgers as much as his beer and steaks. There was a line around the building, but the line goes by very fast. People go in, eat, chat for a few minutes, then go back out. Why would anyone waste their time inside a burger joint when the beach is literally a few minutes walk away? So I wouldn't let the line intimidate you.
Would I come here again? If I was in the neighborhood, absolutely. If I was out of the way? Probably not. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time there and would recommend it to most people if they were hitting OB.
Anyways, I came here because my cravings for Mac & Cheese reemerged and it needed to be satiated in some way shape or form. I took my beer loving man here because I heard the selection was extensive and impressive. When we sat down in this small, but cozy and laid back atmosphere, he seemed pleased with the selections available. I wanted to get Hofbrauhaus since I had that at the Munich Oktoberfest and found it drinkable compared to a lot of the other beers I've attempted to drink in my life. It didn't seem like it was available so we settled on the Blonde for me. It was alright and like I said I was here for other cravings, not the beer.
The Mac & Cheese was pretty good, but Urban Solace is inifinitely better and it should be since its an actual restaurant, not a bar. Nevertheless, Toronado did its job satisfying me and it seems like it did for my man as well. Kudos!

I've tried the tortellini and the bowtie pasta sandwiches. The tortellini is delectable and filling. Tortellini is one of my favorite pastas and its painful trying to find a restaurant that serves good tortellini. This place managed to do a satisfactory job with it. The bowtie wasn't bad either, but I regret not adding any meat into it because that would have kicked the sandwich up a notch. Without the meat, it comes off a little bit boring to me.
My man had the spaghetti sandwich and he was incredibly pleased with the selection. He was also stuffed and half asleep afterward, but so was I. I'm still shocked we were able to make it out of the restaurant without collapsing onto the street, let alone drive home and cuddle on the couch. The second time I came here, my friend had the macaroni & cheese, it tasted great, but towards the bottom of the sandwich, it was overly salty. It really made us drown ourselves in our cups of water. Hence, it loses a star.
I will definitely give this place another shot though since I love the concept and love the small laid back atmosphere. I'll just stick with my tortellini next time.
There were about 7-8 different flavors and no tags or anything indicating what flavors they were. I was waiting for someone to explain them to me and it took the girl and the owner a moment before they finally jumped in. I got the red velvet and the mocha. The red velvet was so bland, I have never ever had cupcakes that bland in my life. How can you make the most basic and common cupcake boring? I was incredibly disappointed that I actually made a drive during my lunch break to try this place out. The mocha I had was slightly better, but I really didn't taste any mocha. The price tag was not worthwhile for the size of the cupcakes. For the two small unfulfulling cupcakes I got it cost me about $6 with taxes.
I love cupcakes and I'm always trying to find a place that serves great cupcakes. This isn't one of them. I'd rather make a drive to Babycakes in Hillcrest where not only are the cupcakes absolutely delicious, but filling and reasonably price.
Maybe this place will improve someday since its still new, but its not off to a great start.

This place is way too overpriced and its quite insulting when your restaurant burger is smaller than any other burger you've ever had. I might as well go to Costco and get myself some frozen White Castle burgers instead. I'm not saying the burgers were crap, they were delicious, but not worth $10. I'd pay $5 for that burger and consider it acceptable. I also ordered onion rings that were nothing special or memorable. I had one and didn't get anymore, overly crispy and hard, a little burnt too. Nothing special about the seasoning or the dip to set it apart. The salad my friend had looked so pathetic. It was just standard romaine lettuc salad. Once again, I'll go to Costco and get myself a Caesar salad with meat.
As I said, it tastes fine. I really did enjoy my burger, but looking back at the price, insulting.

Unfortunately, they did not have the duckaroni available which is a total shame, but I opted for the usual Mac & Cheese instead. Absolutely delicious, but super filling. The bread crumbs on top added a nice crunchy texture to the soft and gooey Mac & Cheese. There were some charred tomatoes, but not a whole lot and definitely not a strong taste to it so anyone who dislikes tomatoes shouldn't feel discouraged. The bacon inside were decent sized chunks and added a nice savory taste to the Mac & Cheese. It was delicious, it was filling, and I left a very happy birthday girl.
My other parties ordered the meatloaf, burger, molasses chicken, and a fried egg BLT. The BLT was standard and mediocre, the meatloaf looked delicious, but the flavor wasn't exactly my favorite. The burger was delicious, huge, and appetizing. The chicken was moist and delicious. The Mac & Cheese definitely stole the entire show, but the other entrees were not bad.
One annoying thing. On their website they clearly state you can make reservations online or call. However, when I called to make a reservation the hostess said no. Furthermore, it bothered me that during brunch I could not order from the lunch/dinner menu instead. Originally, I wanted to do brunch, but I wanted to be able to order the duckaroni, but I was told no. Some clarifications and flexibilities should be added to complete the dining experience. Nevertheless, the waiter I had for dinner was decent.
I'm drooling again.

The Jersey Reuben I ordered was absolutely delicious, I can eat that sandwich all day long and not get tired of it. Additionally, I also ordered a cup of Tortilla Soup which surprisingly wasn't bad despite the lack of meat in it. It was incredibly hot too and sustained its heat for quite a while despite coming in a humbling paper cup. The other members in my party ordered the Italian and found it to be mediocre, but when they tried the Jersey Reuben, they loved it. The portions are actually pretty decent as well.
I'm definitely going to give this place another shot despite the fact that its somewhat out of reach for me, but I love sandwiches and I love trying new things. Writing this review is making me salivate at the thought of the Jersey Reuben.
