I am also one of the fools who purchased a LivingSocial coupon for this company - 5 days later, no response to my calls or emails. Also, I wish I'd read the reviews on Yahoo (THAT THE COMPANY LINKS TO FROM ITS OWN WEBSITE) before purchasing the coupon because this company apparently has a history of doing shady business, canceling appointments, offering coupon vouchers and not honoring them, etc. (check the Yahoo reviews yourself).

Scary.

I called LivingSocial and they were kind enough to refund my voucher and will definitely use LivingSocial again - not their fault! - but will research the company beforehand.

I don't think I've written a bad review before and I have no complaints about the service or decor, but the yogurt was just....bad.

I might have given it a higher rating if I hadn't tried a couple of other froyo places in town, but by comparison I've had better frozen yogurt from the grocery store freezer section. They had 8 flavors I think, 3 or 4 tart, and since I'm a tart froyo lover I tried the tart flavors: plain tart was icy and flavorless. I got a small cup of the blueberry tart to go and discovered that it had a really weird aftertaste, sort of a chemical flavor, and for a frozen yogurt junkie, I think it was the first time I didn't finish a bowl. It just isn't creamy like the other froyo I've had. If you like sherbet or sorbet, you'd probably love this place.

They did have a great selection of toppings and I guess it would be a fun place to bring kids, but I wouldn't eat their yogurt again (and all the toppings in the world wouldn't be enough to cover up that chemical taste.

I stumbled on this place accidentally (never even saw it in the shopping center near Alamo before 3 weeks ago) while on a late errand with the roommate and so happy I found it. We stopped in because it was around 10:30pm on a Saturday and it looked open, were handed lots of tasting cups as soon as the counter guy found out it was our first froyo experience, and it took a few tastes to figure out that I love tart frozen yogurt.

I'm addicted, seriously. I love the Tart Taro best, but also the Tart Avocado and a few others (including plain). I sampled the sweeter flavors and just prefer my yogurt a little more "yogurt-y." I'm a healthy eater for the most part, so I like to top it with walnuts and fruit (which has been consistently fresh...blueberries, kiwi, strawberries), but have also tried it with chocolate chips and marshmallow sauce topping for more of a dessert-ish flavor. I'll even admit to eating Tart Taro with walnuts and berries INSTEAD of dinner.

And I now have a "frequent flyer" card, plus it's about 5 minutes away from my house. Great customer service, always friendly, and I've even seen them stay open past closing time if they have a crowd from the theater.

I'm a little torn about this one, being a huge fan of Yummilicious, which is almost right across the street. I went with a friend last weekend because she had a coupon - initially hesitant because I like my go-to place and its Tart Taro so much - but was pleasantly surprised to discover that Yogurtland has a few bonuses:

They also have Tart Taro, although I think the Taro at Yummilicious is a teeny bit better.
Hello Kitty cups and spoons: adorable.
They have Ghiardelli brand toppings (chocolate, white chocolate, caramel) and chips.
I think the price was slightly lower than my favorite place, but hard to tell because we had buy one/get one coupon.

On the day we went, it was mid-afternoon, they weren't busy, and there was one young woman working (at least visibly). She wasn't friendly, didn't offer tasting cups (my friend reached over the counter and got them herself), didn't engage at all really. It was one visit though and I'd be willing to give it another shot (if I had a coupon). Still a fan of the Yummilicious and recently got their "frequent flyer" card to prove it.

Momiji Hibachi & Sushi

My friend Lisa turned me on to this place (always looking for affordable, tasty sushi!) and we went on Sunday, July 3 because she'd been once and they had half-price sushi all day on Sundays. When we pulled up (it was around 3pm), we almost left because the sign outside says "half-price sushi after 5pm" but decided to go in anyway. We asked the waitress after being seated and discovered they DID have half-price sushi all day on Sunday. Happiness.

Speaking as someone who used to drive to Cedar Park for half-price sushi before our favorite place closed, this place is not as far away and the sushi was *almost* as good (I say that because the other place had really unique rolls with mango and super fresh fish). Momiji had a good selection of sashimi and rolls. I always try the escolar if they have it at a new place, because you can really judge the freshness - it definitely passed the test. I stuffed myself with LOTS of sushi and the bill was $20 - can't beat it! I highly recommend the sweet potato roll and the dragon roll, but as far as sashimi went, the spicy scallop was amazing. Lisa ordered it and as soon as I saw it, I had order envy. And when I was finished with my rolls, even though I had plenty, I ordered the spicy scallop as my "just one more." It was super.

The spicy tuna was a disappointment, though edible. The tuna was chopped too fine or something - texture was mushy - and it wasn't very spicy. Other than that, everything was fresh, the service was good, and the atmosphere pleasant. We'll be back!

How Do You Roll?

I went to How Do You Roll on Tuesday, May 10, with a friend and fellow sushi lover. I wasn't expecting a lot - it's located in a strip mall and seemed very "fast-foody," but it definitely exceeded my expectations. The prices are great, especially in Austin when it's hard to find sushi rolls for less than $10 (unless you buy pre-boxed Sushiya from HEB) - but fresh sushi for less than $10 a roll? Superb. We both had the Director's Cut Roll and one of the custom rolls. Mine was escolar, because I've always felt like good escolar is a test of sushi quality. And it was great!

Service was fast, but the place wasn't very busy...even though we were there right around 7:30pm. Lots of empty seats. Counter staff was friendly and good about making recommendations when asked "what would go with this?" I'll definitely return to How Do You Roll! Show owner comment »

Alluette's Café

Even though I moved away from Charleston over a year ago, I still miss Alluette's healthy soul food! When she opened her restaurant on Reid St. I used to eat there at least twice a month (more often if I was craving a healthy BBQ chicken sandwich with homemade cole slaw). The atmosphere is great and Alluette is a genius when it comes to making healthy food taste good. She takes traditional Lowcountry recipes and turns them into lower calorie, lower fat versions of Charleston favorites. Organic, local, sustainable...everything a restaurant should be.

Great place for lunch or dinner (I used to meet friends there for lunch all the time).

I brought my 10 year old Fossil watch for a battery replacement. Every other place I've taken it to in the past had to send it away and it was usually more than $40. Austin Watch & Jewelry replaced my battery on site in less than 10 minutes while I waited. Total cost: $12. I'll definitely be back! Great customer service.

Dirty Dog Self-Serve Dog Wash

I've been meaning to visit Dirty Dog for some time now with my 2-year-old Pomeranian. Finally made it over there today and had a wonderful experience. Blair was extremely helpful, as it was my first time washing my dog with "pro" equipment. She explained everything and made it super easy for me to get started. I also had Lulu's nails nipped by their groomer while I was there and I've never seen her less traumatized by it (the dog hates having her feet touched). The bath: Loved it! They provide everything, from an apron so you don't get wet to towels to shampoo to grooming tools and doggie cologne. Between the raised sink, the easy-to-reach equipment, and a super fast blow dryer, I was able to brush, wash, and dry my fluffy little one in half the time it usually takes me at home (and my back doesn't hurt from leaning over the tub at home). Lulu's happy and clean and so is her dog mom! I highly recommend Dirty Dog.
