Comets Diner

My family and I have visited Comets many times. Below is a typical experience (which I wrote some time ago and am now finishing.)

We went on a Sunday morning, about 9 am. It was busy which was typical, although the wait was short.  The line at the door isn't "managed" and you seat yourself. The waitstaff seems to know who is next in line and will let you know if you grab a seat too early (let them clear plates and wipe down the table) or miss a party leaving.

The food selection is good, typical diner selection, and the prices are reasonable.  Drinks were delivered promptly and the food came out quick and as ordered.  The food quality is better than I expected and despite the pace of the waitstaff (they seem to buzz rapidly around making sure coffee cups are full) we didn't feel rushed.

This place is great for kids too as it has a children's menu or you can order most items a la-cart. In addition there are crayons and coloring books that the kids can go over and pick through. The noise level isn't disturbing but it's also lough enough to make a loud kid not so noticeable.

We'll continue to be semi-regular breakfast customers and maybe one day make it by for lunch.

My family and I stopped for dinner and had a great experience. The food was above average but in line with the cost. The waitstaff was quick and worked well together. It wasn't that busy so I don't know what a busy night would be like. I'd go there again and recommend it as a casual, family place.

Beacon Insurance Agency

I had an awful experience with my previous insurance agent who didn't seem to care about me as a customer so I moved to Beacon about 5 years ago.  I had hoped to never have to "try them out" but when I was rear ended I had to make a major claim.

I was directed to make a claim directly against the other motorist.  Long story short, he lied about being pushed into me and it was a struggle to get anyone to answer my questions or calls at his insurance company.  Even after they determined he was not at fault, declined my claim, and went after my insurance company, it didn't make it any easier.

I made one call to my agent at Beacon and everything was taken care of within 24 hours, in addition I didn't have to make another call, fill out another form, or do anything else.  Every time I go in there (a new car, updated registrations, or any other issue) it's always the same experience.  They have the answers I need and things are taken care of right away.  I really have no complaints.

Lui Lui

Being Italian and growing up with grandma's cooking I am pretty picky when it comes to Italian food.  Lui Lui's is one of the places I enjoy going.  The food is very good and the portions are usually large, the smallest portion I ever had was likely what I "should" have been eating in the first place.  Prices are average for the area.

I can understand how the wait staff could become "overwhelmed" as it sometimes gets very busy.  We try to avoid weekend  nights after 5 and all weekends during Christmas season.  Wait times during this period are not compatible with two kids under 5.  But I have never had a problem with the staff and often receive outstanding service.  I should also mention, you can call ahead I think up to 1 hr (the larger the party the earlier you can call and still get away with it.)

Their specials are usually delicious and I tried their pizza (when I stole some from my son) for the first time several weeks ago; it was great.  The pasta and sauce is average, but it's a filler anyway.  The rolls are made fresh and their dipping oil has a good flavor, great when augmented with some fresh black pepper and crushed red pepper.

This is a great place for kids too.  They give them some uncooked pizza dough to play with along with the usual crayons.  I also noticed (not sure if this is a policy) that they often put us downstairs during "adult" dinner times with the other families.  While we miss the view, it's nice to know my son being loud isn't really disturbing that 3 year old at the other table being loud too.  (Parents can relate to this.)

This is one of the best options on the "shopping strip" in Nashua.  It's one of those places you feel like not everyone knows about despite it being right out in the open.  So we'll continue to enjoy this "hidden" gem and we hope you do too (just don't make the wait longer for us please.)

This is a great local sub shop and pizza place.  The pizza and subs are very good but so are the other items.  The haddock place is a favorite of my whole family.  They do have a dine in area which really only gets busy after town sporting events on the weekends.  They also serve beer, have plenty of parking, and a lot of local character.  I ding them one star for getting sub orders wrong once in a while, but they are quick to correct (and if they give you the wrong sub, you usually keep it).  The staff is also great to the kids and my son refers to it as the "place with the man who gives me a slice of cheese".

If you are local or traveling by, it's an easy stop right off of exit 34 on route 3.

Sullivan Farms Homemade Ice Cream

Sullivan Farms is one of the best area ice cream shops.  While I rated it moderately expensive the portions are worth what you pay for and the quality is outstanding.  The kids love it too.  While it is at the intersection of two very busy roads and the parking lot is busy and dangerous for little ones, there is a field and seating off to the side.  A favorite is when the train (cargo) comes by and stops so the engineer can get a scoop too.  It really embodies the (disappearing)  "country" charm of the area.
